Flex :: Append Submenus To An Existing FlexNativeMenu Instance?

I'm completely confused by this. An Adobe Flex WindowedApplication has a 'menu' property, which by default is assigned a FlexNativeMenu instance, which is used to create a native menu tree for the application.For example, on OS X, if I create a WindowedApplication, I get the standard 'application menu', 'File', 'Edit' and 'Window' menus created on startup. The question is, how do I append additional menus to this without creating an entirely new menu? I want to use the default OS X menus as a starting point and add my own. If I assign menu = new FlexNativeMenu; I just get a completely empty application bar with no menus at all.

I have attempted to do this using the following code, but nothing happens:

How can I accomplish this? I know in the old mx.controls.TextArea component, I could simply do:

How can I do this with the new TLF/FTE API expressed in the spark.components.TextArea component?

I'm trying to append a live stream to an existing file, but I cant figure out how to open the existing file and then append the live stream. This is server side as well.I know I need to open the existing file using stream = stream.get("file"). but I don't understand how to associate stream with the live stream coming in.

When you append a recording from a stream does the metadata get updated correctly after the append? I've worked with metadata before and from my recolection anytime a .flv was changed I had to manually update the metadata.

IDE :: Changing Pre Existing MovieClip's Instance Behaviors

I've created a graphic and have multiple instances of the graphic on the stage. I've recently decided to change the graphic to a movieClip. However, changing the original clip's type to movieClip doesn't apply the change to all instances that I've already placed on the stage; they're still all graphics.

The only way I've been able to fix it is by manually selecting each one and changing their instance behavior from 'graphic' to 'movieclip'. Is there a faster way to do this, be it a command or an actionscript code? Anything that doesn't require me manually changing each instance would be a huge time saver.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Copying An Existing MovieClip Instance And Pushing Onto Array?

Here's what I am trying to do: I have an array of movie clip instances called iconArray[]. what I want to do is create the effect of shifting icons on screen right or left. Lets say we're shifting the icons left--what I want to happen is the icon on the left (iconArray[0]:MovieClip) to tween to the left about 20-30 pixels and then fade out, which I can currently achieve. The problem is I want copy the instance of that icon as a temp MC and push it onto iconArray and then have it fade in tween from the right.
 
In other words, the left most icon should "wrap" back around to the position of the right most icon but in order to create the illusion without having the left most icon pass over the other icons (which looks tacky) I want to create a copy of the left most icon and push it onto the array as a new movieclip with the same image and have that fade in from the right while the other one dies off.

it does not create a new icon, is seems to point to the same movie clip as iconArray[0] and any adjustments I make to the x or alpha affect the original MovieClip instance and not the new on I created and pushed onto the array.
 
How does one go about copying a movieclip, storing it in it's own instance/var so it can be displayed and manipulated as a separate entity?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Control(Play/Pause) The Flv Playback Instance(s) With My Existing Icons?

I'm making a demo project for myself to learn. The project is somewhat similar to "The Story of Stuff" website.But I making this demo and going step by step. I have a small working project but the video clips are embedded and now I'm launching them externally using the flv playback component.I have only made the very first video clip external that is loaded in using the component. The rest of the clips are embedded.

As you can see I made this so when the picture icons appear and when you click on one the video pauses and when you click the close button on the small window that pops up the video resumes.(un-pause)

Basic time line controls. (Linear)

But of course this does not work when I load the clip externally using the flv playback component.My question is , how can I control (Play/Pause) the flv playback instance(s) with my existing icons?

I'm trying to make a menu with a text that you can click on, and an animation will start - expanding a new three-button menu beneath it.These three seperate buttons were supposed to have their own menus expanding to the right of it when they are clicked.[code]the button is named "effekt" and the movieclip that is supposed to start is called "elforbrukning" of course. I'm fairly new to actionscript and am trying to create an accordion menu that contains three submenus. The idea is that when you mouseover one submenu (or rectangle, to keep it simple) that the rectangles which were previously covering it will move to reveal it. If you want an idea of what I'm talking about, menus of this type can be found at the bottom of nvidia's[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][/COLOR][/COLOR] site ([URL]) for reference.

At first I tried creating each function, which will make the rectangles move, separately but this resulted in three very repetitive functions and there seemed like there should be a better way, especially since I'd like a good way to add and remove submenus. The animation did work then. I tried to clean it up by creating a for loop that would move each rectangle but now, for some reason, it doesn't work. It is still missing some key points such as utilizing the mOver variable to figure out when each rectangle is moused over Here is the code so far and the very sparse file is attached.

I've created a rotating navigation menu with 4 parts/submenus. I'm having trouble of figuring the following:

1. To make the rotation/spinning graphics look smoother

2. On rollover of one of the submenu/movieclip (the rotation will stop and continue on rollout), it should hide/decrease the alpha of other submenus, so a rollover effect could be seen. I've already tried with this:

I have been following and bastardising a computer arts tutorial for a dynamic flash site, its a really good tutorial and I'd like to keep going with that format/style, but I'm pretty new to the whole scripting thing and am finding it a bit of a headache, so was wondering if any kind souls would help me work out how to add submenus to the code below.the main menu button is a movie file(btn_projects_main) consisting of a button (button) and a text box(txt) and is 3 frames long to allow for the different states: What I'm looking for is a set of sub menus which load horizontally below the main menu buttons, here is the code which has been altered slightly (thanks to Ned Murphy for his help and patience with that)

ActionScript 2.0 :: XML Photo Gallery - Submenus Not Picking Right File

I am running flash through an xml page. The page is a xml generated photo gallery per-say, and I can make it work for the 1st page, but not the sub menus.

In the dyn_xml_gallery .fla file, I have it picking it up from

ActionScript Code:
xmlCategory.load ("dyn_xml_gallery_xml/categories.xml");

The main page picks this up just fine, and shows the pictures as I have listed. But on the submenus, I have the same thing but just different names. So instead of being dyn_xml_gallery.swf, it's now dyn_xml_gallery2.swf.
And in the actionscript, it's picking it up from dyn_xml_gallery_xml2.

With everything renamed and linked to the right object.. any ideas as to why my submenus are still picking up the original file, and not (in this case) my dyn_xml_gallery_xml2.

I have an existing AIR app whose main content is App.swf.I would like to have another AIR app that hosts and runs App.swf. When I say run it, I mean displays it's WindowedApplication.Here's the code for the 2 AIR projects (imports are omitted for brevity):

I get the following error while App.swf is being loaded:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at mx.managers::SystemManager/initHandler()[C:autobuildgalagaframeworksprojectsframeworksrcmxmanagersSystemManager.as:3001]

I believe the issue has to do with AirAppHostApplication's SystemManager conflicting with App's SystemManager because they are both living in the same app domain. Can an AIR app be written where a WindowedApplication class isn't statically defined, but loaded at runtime by loading a swf and instantiating the WindowedApplication subclass that's contained in the swf.The reason I want to do this is for an automation scenario where I have to assume I don't have the source code for the app I'm automating, but I do have access to the names of the public classes and their public methods exposed for automation. I have complete control over the environment and don't have to deal with any constraints around that, so I can put 2 AIR apps in the same directory, etc.

Flex :: Compile An Existing Project With The SDK

I'm trying to compile an existing Flex3 project with the Flex4 SDK. I'm getting this error:

Warning: This compilation unit did not have a factoryClass specified in Frame metadata to load the configured runtime shared libraries. To compile without runtime shared libraries either set the -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries option to true or remove the -runtime-shared-libraries option.The resulting file is roughly the same as my old Flex3 compiled .swf file. Playing the resulting .swf file in the Flash Player also gives the following errors:

An Actionscript error ocurred: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class spark.core::SpriteVisualElement could not be found If I set the compiler attribute static-link-runtime-shared-libraries to true, then the error disappears and all is well. However, the size of the resulting .SWF is a couple of 100K's bigger. And that's not what I want.

I don't fully understand the concept of runtime shared libraries, but it seems that with the option to statically link them set to true, the libraries are included in the .swf. However, I like to exclude them from the .swf and only load the needed library at runtime, as my project seemed to do with Flex3 (I didn't know that by the way).

If I understand correctly, playerglobal.swc should hold all the necessary code for the external libraries that my .swf has to load. Do Flex4 compiled files need more libraries? Should I do something with the factoryClass in the Frame metadata tag?

I think my question boils down to this: How do I compile a Flex4 .swf that is the same size as my previous Flex3 compiled .swf?

I'm having trouble conceptually understanding how to integrate flex components -- forms, charts, data grids, etc. -- with an existing web app. There are certain aspects of the web application where I believe it makes more sense to use flex -- however, I DO NOT want to replace the (html/js/java) web-app with a pure flex based app.For example, currently the web app displays user data using html tables and java based charts, I'd like to re-implement this "data display" using flex. Flex :: Rebuilding Existing Flash Project

I'm not a flash developer.We paid a developer to build us an app. It is nearly perfect, but a few things in the actionscript need tweaking (purely the values of some URL's for action when buttons are clicked.)I believe I need to rebuild the project to pull this information through.I believe he has sent me the full source. Do I need to install all of the dependencies to get this to work? I'm tempted to just go in and make the changes in a hex editor..
