Flex :: Casting Object From ArrayCollection To Instance Of Custom Class
Jan 28, 2011I am using Flex 4 and for whatever reason I cannot get the following code to work which happens inside of a ListEvent handler for a dataGrid:
_tempRule = DataGrid(event.currentTarget).selectedItem as Rule;
Rule is a custom class, and the above code always returns null. The dataprovider for the datagrid is an ArrayCollection. If I try to wrap the above code to make it like the following:
DataGrid(event.currentTarget).selectedItem as Rule
I get this error:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert Object@e15a971 to com.mycompany.arcc.business.Rule
Now I know I have done this before with native Flex classes like Button, etc, but it my case it will not work. Here is the Rule class:

Oct 11, 2011I am thinking of writing a subclass of ArrayCollection, similar to ClearToolkit's that can be smart about managing my remote objects when coming back from BlazeDS.I am wondering if it is possible to get Flex to put my collection of objects in my own custom collection instead of defaulting to ArrayCollection? If not, I'll need to pull everything out of the collection it comes in in order to populate my own.

Oct 27, 2009I'm new to Flex and am using TileList bound to an ArrayCollection. The array collection is empty at load time, and then updates with the results from am HTTPService call. The problem is that the item renderers aren't being rendered as expected, I'm guessing because there was no data when they were first rendered at load time. Here's simplified example:

Oct 26, 2009I want to check in my function if a passed argument of type object is empty or not. Sometimes it is empty but still not null thus I can not rely on null condition. Is there some property like 'length'/'size' for flex objects which I can use here.

Feb 4, 2005is there a way to check an array to see if an element has already been added? I'm working with an XML document where there are 4 possible variables, but these 4 vars are repeated several times over. It's reading in fine... I just want to pull those specific variables out of the XML and add them to an array, but I do not want them to duplicate. To say it another way... I don't want my array to be more than 4 items long (it is possible to be less) with a max of those 4 different vars.

Feb 6, 2010i have a class that creates circles randomly placed at stage, i want then to move those circles and make them bounce off the stage, i know how to do that, the problem is that when i add a new shape into my stage, that shape, has an "x" value of 0, no matter where it appears, how can i check the real "x" value of that shape within the stage, so i can continue with the bouncing check...

Jul 9, 2010i have a collection looking like this :arr.getItemAt(0).closet.clothes[0].color. the arr is an ArrayCollection data type..the clothes is an Array data type..when i try to bind this to an mxml component , i get a warning :"Data binding will not be able to detect changes when using square bracket([]) operator. For Array, please use ArrayCollection.getItemAt() instead."this is not possible as the Array class has no method getItemAt().

Jun 23, 2011I have a somewhat complex parent/child hierarchy object that I need to display in a tree format that dynamically updates. To pass it into the tree as a dataprovider I convert the top level parent into an Array and then into an ArrayCollection. The problem there is if anything changes in the hierarchy the tree isn't dynamically updated unless I regenerate the dataprovider.
EDIT: I didn't have much code shown so I just tried to include the skeleton version of how everything is being used below, the tree works fine and even when I remove/add nodes the changes are evident but the vertical scroll bar isn't updated(doesn't resize) and if I scroll the tree will get out of whack and may display whitespace at the bottom of the tree where the item was just removed.
I tried just a plain bindable ArrayCollection test object with multiple levels and it updates properly so I think my tree is fine it's just how I'm trying to bind the dataprovider that I'm having the issues.

Jan 27, 2011The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

after filtering the arraycollection as 'hell' , the array collection is displaying like the below:

Can i know the reason why the index got changed after filter it?
* no server side code for filtering. it is only flex side filtering.

Flex :: Datagrid - ItemRenderer Flex Values Getting Not Rendered According To ArrayCollection Provider?
Feb 4, 2011i have a problem using the itemRenderer functionality. When using an ArrayCollection the visible Data in the DataGrid using the itemRenderer will be rendered just fine. But if i start scrolling the entries are repeating in the cells using the renderer. The cells are not filled with date according to the id. What mistake i'm doing here.

Dec 29, 2009I want to be able to mask an object that has been added to the stage using 'addChild'. This is what I have so far, but it does not seem to work.

Basically, the cloud is going to move across the sky then get hidden by the mask so it does not appear on the background stage.

Dec 11, 2009Please help! I'm designing an HTML website and added an animated Flash image using the object tag. I was handcoding on Dreamweaver and before I saved it I got this message asking me if the code should be modified for compatibility with IE8.
So I just clicked on 'Yes' and a 'script' folder was generated.
The Flash image appears on Firefox 3.5 but comes up with the dreaded red 'x' on IE8.

I tried overriding addChild and addChildAt at with no prevail. The movieclips that are placed on the stage via flash still don't trigger addChild or addChildAt. However, tracing this.numChildren shows '2' correctly.
