Flex :: Control Multiple Instances Of Movieclips In A Loaded Swf At Once?

I am loading an swf created in flash professional cs5 via the loader class into a flex 4.1 application. The flash file contains multiple movieclips that are exported for actionscript and those movieclips exist in many instances throughout the movie.

Iterating through everything, comparing class types seems to be the most easy but also the most redundant way to solve this. Is there any way of using the class name as a kind of global selector to access the clips?

I could also make the sub-clips in the flash listen for an event on which they perform an action, but I am not really sure what might be best.

I have several movieclips in my project which are being used as buttons, and when you rollover the mc's the content is viewable the entire time the mouse is hovering in the area of the movie clip, once the mouse moves off it disapeers. I have to make a photo album, so I'm creating a container mc for a single pic.Inside it I have an empty mc where i'll "loadMovie" the pic jpg, a simple animated gif serving as a preloader and a dynamic text to load the pic title from a XML file.Then I tween the container.pic and the container.preloader.The problem come when I have multiple instances of container, because my function only works for the last created instance.

I have a placeholderMC and then two instances of that placeholderMC (both with different instance names) in a containerMC. This containerMC is then animated using tweens, not actionscript.

I need to be able to load a JPG, PNG or SWF file using AS2 into the placeholder from a server. At present, loading the movie requires a specific target path which will only load the movie into the one instance. Is there some way I can load the movie into the placeholder without being as explicit in the path, such that it will be loaded into BOTH instances of the placeholderMC in the containerMC?

In laymans terms... I am loading a graphic and using the second instance as a drop shadow reflection under the first. The reflection has a different instance name so that I can cacheAsBitmap and use a gradient on it as a mask at runtime, it is also flipped vertically, so that like a reflection it is upside down.

The other problem I am experiencing is that when the containerMC is removed from the stage during the animation, the movie is unloaded as well and needs to be reloaded if i require the containerMC again. Is there anyway around this or is that native behaviour to flash. Ideally I would like to only have to load the Placeholder images once at the start of the file and then have them available for use as and when they are needed throughout the movie... does this require them to be on the stage the entire time?

I am creating a Flash movie that has some PowerPoint-like pages in it. I've created an nice clipEvent script that make bullet points slide in and bounce to a stop. I want a whole bunch of clips to do the same thing, and I'd like simply to define a script globally at the beginning of the movie and apply it to all those different clips, that way if the client asks for changes I only have to change the one script, not dozens of them.

I want to play various sound objects a certain amount of times when the playhead reaches a certain frame and then stop playing (even if the playhead reaches the same frame again).

I hope someone will be kind enough to help me solve this problems I'm having controlling each sound.

Setup Details I'm using the load movie method to load another SWF (welcome.swf) file into a movieclip in the _root SWF timeline (main.swf), and using separate movieclips in the _root SWF as holders for each sound object i declare like so:

To just add the articles will only make the page load slower so I used a scrollbar with a textfield and added text and pics to the article to scroll it. This works fine but I need a way where the scroll can call different textfields or movieclips. For instance, the main scroll opens with a textfield that scrolls articles 15 thru 10. I need on the bottom of the page buttons that link articles 9 thru 5 and so on. So when you click a button the textfield or movieclip changes and displays what is in that textfield or mc. I have looked for a tutorial, a video or anything on this and besides coming up with Flash 5 similar mentions but nothing to this point

I am trying to build a image-gallery-type picslider class. I have a playlist.xml whose architecture should be clear from the URLLoader stuff in my code. What I aim to do is to load 3 initial images into MoviClips and place the three in an array.Then, I'll manipulate the array to allow the user to flip left or right between images, while loading others offscreen.What I am hiving trouble with is loading multiple images into MCs using the Loader object inside a loop. When I run the code below, only the last image loaded appears inside a MC on the stage.Do I need to dynamically create loaders for each iteration?

My Flex application is one consisting of several "subapps". Basically, the main application area is an ApplicationControlBar with buttons for each of the subapps. The rest of the area is a canvas where the subapps are displayed.Only one subapp is visible at a time. When switching between subapps, we do a canvas.removeAllChildren(), then canvas.addChild(subAppSwitchedTo).It's essentially a manual implementation of a ViewStack (the pros and cons of which are not the topic of this, so refrain from commenting on this).In one of my subapps (let's say subapp "A"), I have a search function where results are displayed in a TitleWindow that gets popped up. Workflow is like enter search criteria, click search button, TitleWindow pops up with results (multiple selection datagrid), choose desired result(s), click OK, popup goes away (PopUpManager.removePopUp), and continue working. This all works fine. The problem is if I switch to a different subapp (say "B" -- where A gets removeAllChildren()'d and B gets added), then switch back to A and search again, when the results TitleWindow pops open, there will be TWO stacked on top of each other. If I continue to navigate away and back to A, every time I search, there will be an additional popup in the "stack" of popups (one for each time A gets addChild()'d).

I'm not sure what to do about it and it's causing a serious usability bug in my application.It's like I somehow need to flush the PopUpManager or something (even though I'm correctly calling removePopUp() to remove the TitleWindow).[code]

Should I have multiple instances of the applications running on the same server/ deploying the application in diff servers and using a load balancer for routing? If i must have multiple instances, how to do that? On a given day, the application is expected to get around 2000-3000 hits. What are all the factors to be kept in mind while deployment?

I have an AIR application that uses Singletons to manage global state throughout the application. Works great for what it does (manages a network appliance). But now the client wants to spawn multiple application instances from the first instance so they can manage multiple hardware devices at the same time ... kind of like a dashboard but lots bigger.

As you can guess, I coded myself into a corner with the singletons so if I refactor the application to have a bootstrap class that launches the application logic with a button, let's say, that spawns another window that contains the same application logic, then the singletons are shared across both app windows whereas I would have liked two separate instances.

Is there a way to use singletons ( or something else ) to keep global state but create multiple instances in one application where each instance needs it's own state manager?

I'm trying to create a form that based on the users input would determine how many forms to generate dynamically. I have a base state with a combo box that contains 1-4. Bases on the users selection I would like to have the next state generate the number of forms. So if you user selects 2 and click next - 2 copies of the form would be display.

I'm just wondering if this is possible how i would go about doing this or if any one knows of any examples?

In short: I need an event listener in a custom component so all its instances (without editing them) react at the same time, fired by a dispatched event in its parent container. In detail: I have a custom component with Tab navigator. (The tabs are intended to show different preferences for different Languages.) I have a button bar with buttons for all the languages. There are a lot of instances of the custom component.

I want to click in a button of the languages bar and get ALL the instances switched to the same tab (the custom component contains the logic to change the tab). I can do it by adding the event listener for EACH INSTANCE of the custom component, so it calls an internal function that changes the tab. But it seems to be very coupled, isn't it? I wonder if it can be done in the master CLASS of the component, so it listen for events in its parent container, whichever it is. In my mind this code shoud work, but it doesn't (obviously ill'use a custom event to pass the new language value): this.parent.addEventListener("lang_change", this.change_tab); This way I can just drop an instance of the component, and see it working for itself.

Ok so here is my XML slideshow Actionscript:

So I figured that the coding of separate scenes would work independently of one another, but I guess I was dead wrong, because when I apply this to a different scene and change the XML path for a different set of images, I get all sorts of conflict errors when I test the entire movie. I have my flash film set up so that each link send the user to a different scene, which plays a unique intro for each, and then the slideshow appears on screen and the viewer can navigate the images.

Is there a work around for this? Or am I going to have to break my flash movie into separate movies? Or should I just add a suffix to all my vars and functions so that they are unique for each scene?

Server - How To Control Over 1000 Flash App Instances

I have a flash app running on 1200 machines on a local network. Currently, the app polls the php server every 10 seconds, and is returned a 14 byte string with the state. If the state is new, the app changes mode and gets new data from the server. 1200 machines polling every 10 seconds to pick up ~8 state changes per day seems like an awful lot of network traffic for this.

There is other traffic on the network (streaming video, web surfing etc). When the network load gets high, some of the machines loose the ability to communicate with the server and hang. When I run 400 machines I don't run into this problem. Looks like a scalability problem. What would you recommend for lightweight communication between server and 1200 clients? Remoting with AMFast? XML Sockets? Something else entirely?

I want to do is a map of russia with circles on it, denoting cities, where dealerships of my company reside. So the european part is so adlomerated that it would be insane placing city name in there, so i though of making a script that would make the circle grow onRollOver and shrink it onRollOut (which I made, based on some exmamples on [URL] - as said before - total noob) and would make the city name come out or appear onRelease. I can't figure the onRelease part.

NOTHING. The buttons/circles are all instances of one movieclip with unique names, placed in an array. So on load the init() function fires off, which takes care of onRollOver and onRollOut methods and SHOULD take care of the onRelease part, but I can't figure out how the code should be like.

I m trying to make sense of how to load a swf into a parent MovieClip and allow them to communicate.I ve attached two zip files � one which works fine and the other doesn�t. Unfortunately (for me), the one which doesn�t work is closer to my current project.I need to load movieclips into the parent movieclip. The parent movieclip has controls which rely on values parsed from the child movieclip.In the parent movieclips I wait until the loading is complete and so the values should be passed. I used to work in AS2 and something like this worked:

mc1.mc2.onRelease = function () {

}

But converting it to AS3, it doesn't work anymore.

I have a project with two text boxes, "nameBox" and "controlBox" and a button, "createButt",I want the code to control boxes that are made in ActionScript separately, so if i put Hello into the nameBox and press createButt it will create a box with a variable attached called the playerName being the name that is entered in nameBox, when i type the name of the block into the controlBox the block will start to move, the problem is though, doing it with two blocks on the stage it will only move the block every two frames and any more will be slower, is there any way to make this code move the specified block every frame?[code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Incrementing Through Instances Of Movieclips To Get Them Into An Array?

the user needs to select an answer from a dropdown list.  I am then creating  an array that will store the answer to each question when the user clicks the submit button.  Each of the drop down menus is named sequentially.  So what I am trying to do is write  a while loop that will increment through and read each of the values into the array so I can process the responses later.  The issue that I am having is writing the syntax to recognize the Instance name of the specific drop down I am trying to reference.
 
Here is the basic code I am using:
 
var Store:Array = new Array(2);
public var Increment:Number;
Increment = 1;

So the DropDowns instance names are DropDown1, DropDown2 etc...  It works fine if I manually enter in each instance name (but there are 43 total and I don't want to do each one individually).  
 
I am assuming that I need to setup some sort of variable to temporarily add the increment number to the "DropDown" and then use that as the reference:
 
Increment = 1;
while (Increment <=2){
ItemNumber = "DropDown" + Increment;
Store[Increment] = MovieClip(Scroller2.Form_Scroller.content).ItemNumber.value;
trace(Store);
Increment++;
}
 
But when I do that, I get the following error message:
 
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
at combotest/submitted()
 
I assume this is because it is looking for an instance of ItemNumber instead of the instance of the value of ItemNumber.
