ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Object After Creating It Dynamically?

Dec 19, 2011

I have a MovieClip that I made with a simple text box inside to hold some text..

I am basically using it to generate a "member list".

Each name would have its own TxtSlot_mc... so it can be manipulated later.

I have so far been able to dynamically load a concatenated string of member names from php into flash and then split the string into an array.

I have also been able to create each movie clip and assign the member name to the text in the text box and add/position it to the screen.

The problem I am having is that after exiting the function that handles the creation I can't figure out how to get access to them.[code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: AddEventListener To Dynamically Named MC?

Apr 3, 2012

I'm building a variable matching game. The player clicks one of four choices and then clicks the answer area. Their choice appears in the area, and if the answer is correct the answer container shifts down, highlighting the next answer area to be filled. Inside the container are a large number of these answer areas (60).

What I am trying to do is have only one be answerable at a time, the highlighted one, so that players can't skip ahead despite seeing the empty spaces left to answer in. What I have right now isn't working, and I could use some outside insight.

Code:
var i:int =1;
function sampleFunction(evt:MouseEvent):void{
if(selection == e.currentTarget.targetCorrect){//targetCorrect is a string set statically

[Code].....

I realize I could use a for loop to add the event listener, but the project really calls for only one answerable area at a time.

Dynamically Create A Uniquely Named Loader?

I have an array of external images that I am loading and the number of external images is variable, so I want to be able to create loaders to load them as needed. Is there a way to dynamically create and uniquely name a loader at run time?

Actionscript :: Flex - Creating A Class Dynamically?

Jul 17, 2009

I need to load all images that I have used in my project externally without embedding. The images are present either in skins or as icons for items in trees. I came across the IconUtility class here I was able to modify it and use it for trees but the problem is we cannot use iconutility for the same component to set 2 different skins (like for a button - upskin downskin). I was not able to think of a workaround with iconutility. Is it possible to simulate embed and create a class dynamically and return the class at runtime?

Flex :: Dynamically Creating Variables In Actionscript 3.0?

Mar 2, 2010

i'm loading several sound files, and want to error check each load. however, instead programming each one with their own complete/error functions, i would like them to all use the same complete/error handler functions.

a successfully loaded sound should create a new sound channel variable, while an unsuccessfully loaded sound will produce a simple trace with the name of the sound that failed to load. however, in order to do this, i need to dynamically create variables, which i haven't yet figured out how to do.

here's my code for my complete and error functions:

function soundLoadedOK(e:Event):void
{
//EX: Sound named "explosion" will create Sound Channel named "explosionChannel"
var String(e.currentTarget.name + "Channel"):SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();

Flex :: Creating A Dynamically Sized List Component

Aug 16, 2010

I need a List that resizes to exactly fit its content, unless that height exceeds its (dynamically sized) parent container. My requirements are as follows:

The component extends List, or at least acts similarly. variableRowHeight and wordWrap both equal to true. The height of the list cannot be less than minHeight (roughly 32px for scrollbar arrows). The height of the list cannot be greater than the height of the parent container .

Note that the parent container can be resized dynamically.

The height of the list should be updated as the size of both the contents and parent container changes.

Live updating would be preferable but not necessary.

There should be no scrollbars if the content height is less than the parent container height (sounds obvious, but I've had trouble with this too).

The trouble is that with variableRowHeight and wordWrap, it's very hard to know the size of the content at any given time. If the parent container's width is reduced, a line wrap may occur in the list which will change the height of the content. I know I can measure the height of the list content using measureHeightOfItems() + viewMetrics.top + viewMetrics.bottom, but when should I calculate that? What events should I listen for? And the thing I've had the most trouble with - when should I calculate it to set the size initially (i.e. just as the content has finished populating)?

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Retrieve Named Object

var myMask:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
// settings for width height x y color fill etc etc.
myMask.name = "NAME-"+i; // set the NAME
myContainer.addChild(myMask);
myContainer.mask = myMask;

 the mask looks fine on the stage.now since i name it, i want to use it for other purpose like moving it now i want to actual call myMask
i get my number "num" from other function, that works fine

function applyMask(num:int):void {
// need to call   myMask("NAME-"+num)
}

i have tried myContainer.getChildByNamehave tried:

var masking:myContainer=getChildByName("NAME-"+String(num)) as myContainer;

i have traced for options i can think of myself, but all result no property found.
