I click to play song1, while it's playing, I decide to play song3 instead. Based on the default setup, song3 will start playing while song1 continues to play. I'd like song1 to stop when song3 starts.

So how can I influence the time inside the timer? Do I create a global timer, remove the listener and recall the timer function? Would this work since the timer has already been declared, I a re-declare a timer?
Any good argument as to why I shouldn't use a Dictionary over an Object every single time? I can't think of any case an Object can do the job a Dictionary can't, and it doesn't seem as the Dictionary creates that much more overhead.

I am trying to avoid adding a print function to each swf since there are a lot of them.I have a function for printing, but it only allows me to define one level. And often we need to print multiple levels because elements are stacked on top of each other. Here is my action:

Looking for thoughts and ideas on establishing communication between isolated SWFs residing in a single HTML page. Need to place multiple SWFs in a single HTML page and was wondering if there was some way to send commands from one of the movies to the other wihtout reloading the page. (would prefer not to reload the page and all the components and have the page "blink" - go blank before loading new and cached data) Unfortunately cannot build this as a single flash object with multiple MCs.. must be multiple SWFs.
Have an idea or two on how to set this up with HTML framesets and loading subpages ( a cheat certainly and far less than elegant) but would prefer not to deal with the heartache that would entail - especially since areas of the page would still "blink" on loading.
I wonder if anyone on here has any experience of the above component [URL]. It produces 'turning page' books from jpegs and I'm having problems with one aspect of it. I've created a 'GO TO' button where the user can enter the page number that he or she wishes to visit. It all works beautifully, with one problem. The FlippingBook component is set to start at page '0'. This means that if the user enters '5' in the GO TO page box and clicks 'GO', he or she will be taken to page number 6, rather than 5, because what we are calling page 1, the component calls page 0.
I need to try and find a way around this, as if we're working on existing brochures with contents lists and index numbers, it is not feasible to just change all the page numbers. I would think that I need some code to tell the component to add a page to the number each time, but I'm not clear what the code should be or where it might be added.
I am working with the open source flash player at [URL].. and I am trying to figure out how to limit one sound file at a time. I know this has been done on a number of sites but I am unsure how to approach it.
Scenario: A page has five different instances of the flash player. The user is litening to one song but clicks on another to listen to it.Goal: The first audio file automatically stops while the second starts playing instead of both playing at the same time.
Do I need to have some sort of javascript handler than interacts with the swf or something?
Requirement: Create single very large bitmap data which contain some 30 PNG images loaded and for each image it should have some text. Images and text are loaded dynamically (AS2 code. Images are stored in a remote server). The bitmap data display should show 8 images at a time and corresponding text. We can see rest content by scrolling (kinetic scroll is implemented). How can I go for it?Some questions:Is there any limit for size of bitmap data ( As per link there is restriction on the height of the bitmap we can create in AS2 (max value is 2880 which is not enough for some 30 element list If we create individual bitmap data for 30 individual PNG files, we find some jerks in scroll. How can we have smooth scrolling?
View 5 RepliesI have a problem with two functions. This is the story: the user has to press the space button on keyboard when he sees something on screen, then the "rightClick" function is called. If he presses the button when there is something else on screen that is a wrong answer (function "wrongClick" is called). The problem is that when the user presses the space button both function run at the same time.

Given the following example SWF: Sample Notice how with the words "enthusiast" at the end of the first line and "write" at the end of the second line, that they start to type out on the first line but after a few letters they are bumped.
I understand this is the correct behavior, but is there a way for "enthusiast" to begin being typed on the second line, and "write" on the third line instead of being bumped during the typing?
Currently I am thinking of doing a search ahead mechanism, so it finds the next word in whole, then makes that the active word to print, temporarily print it, see if it increases the numlines, and if it does insert a line break and continue writing. But it seems fiddly.

I have 3 seperate .swf on a single html page which are all communicating with FMS on separate connections. Do you think there will be any stability issues? or connection issues. All the .swf use the same main.asc. There are no apparant problems so far just need an expert opnion.....a side note is I've also noticed an error in the error logs that says its detected a backwards time stamp when recodring. Whats that all about? The application seems fine. Using FMS 3.0
View 2 RepliesI have a single page site that has a flash interface and a html nav bar that changes content on the site without a page reload. The problem is the client wants to see the click paths users are going though to access content ( using html nav bar or flash ui to get there ). I know I can use the externalInterface in flash to callback to javascript on click events but there seems to be no custom way to trigger building a click path.
Basically on a page that doesn't have per-page content I want to track the path users are navigating the site ( not per-click tracking but full on path tracking ) through. Is this possible through custom events of some sort or just not possible?
I have about 20-30 SWFs embedded on the same page and they all interact with browser's JavaScript. After about 8-12 of these have loaded, Firefox crashes. Will it help combining all these into a single SWF?

I want one scheme to load and when the page is refreshed or revisited, one of the other colour schemes to load in its place. They can appear in any random order, just a different one to the one that played before reloading.Can someone point me to an answer or tell me how to do it? I have found a way in JavaScript but this only works on plain images, not swf files.

Instead of 10 items in a list all going to 1 new view but with different info being generated I want 10 different view, 1 per item in the list. I can't find any examples of how to do this and I have been tryingo to make it for for a while. This is for a mobile app.

i get this error when i retrieve an XML that only has 1 node (no repeating nodes) and i try to store in an ArrayCollection. -When I have MORE than 1 "name" nodes...i do NOT get an error. My test show that XMLListCollection does NOT work either.
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "XXXXXX" to mx.collections.ArrayCollection.
this error occurs as the line of code:
myList= e.result.list.name;
Why can't ArrayCollection work with a single node? I'm using this ArrayCollection as a dataprovider for a Component -is there an alternative I can use that will take BOTH single and repeating nodes as well as work as a dataprovider?

I wanted to set the language of my flash website based on the users location country wise. I know there are some methods with php and searching a database but I am trying to avoid that route.
I found one script in javascript that links to a webpage and produces a document.write if you go to that link. It returns the users country i believe. but there seems to be no documentation.
