I'm looking for a good "Wizard" library in Flex before rolling my own. The important features are: Multiple custom input panels in sequence. Ability to prepopulate the data fields using an object, but cancelling at any point leaves original data unmodified. Ability to move to back and forth in panel sequence without losing data.

Do you know any good User Interface libraries for ActionScript? And I'm not interested in Flex: it's big and you can't customize anything at it except for colors and fonts which I don't care about.I am looking for a decent UI library which is good for game development: custom shaped buttons, stuff like that. More customization that Flex ever had that is.

View 2 RepliesMy issue this time around is trying to use the new DCD BlazeDS wizard in Flash Builder 4. If I set my project up as a combined Java/Flex app I am unable to connect to the RDS servlet using the wizard. I get a 404 error every time.
I'm certain the service is set up correctly since my app can access the exposed java classes and BlazeMonster can see the exposed services.
Does MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?

I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. Looking for a programming book that is in tutorial approach. Example this chapter teaches you how to do a login form. In the second chapter it teaches you how to integrate the login for to another app.Basically I'm looking for a book that teaches you real working application rather than abstract ideas. Programming language I have in mind is Adobe Air/Flex, Visual Basic. Functions I have in mind should at least cover Drag and Drops, Integration to a web form (form entry) and customizable interfaces.The languages i had in mind isn't fix. If you know a programming platform that has little code or easy to learn but still be able to develop a cool application.

All of these "walk a user" through a customized ordering process and capture all of their selection and showing them all of their customizations (and ultimately bring them to a final ordering screen). What's going on under the hood on these sites and are built in flash or flex? Is the person creating a separate image for every combination that you could possibly select or is something else happening here?
I still can't figure out if Flex or Flash is better for something like this. (why does adobe make these seemingly basic questions so complicated) Are there any good resource or tutorials for try to build this type of functionality in flash on a website?
A Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )
suppose i have 3 buttons(for example say, productin, marketing, sales ) on my main.mxml..once i click on one button it should take me to abc.mxml page with production data, once again if i click on second button it should take me to the same abc.mxml but with marketing data. same as for 3rd button also, how can i achieve this ?
View 2 RepliesI'm creating a small size Flex movies which contains two line charts, at the moment the size of the release build swf is 343KB, which is too large for our needs.
I've tried changing the loading of the SWC file to Runtime Shared Libraries, but I found that this removed the text of the charts (the text for the x and y axis). Why would the text be removed when the Framework linkage is set as a Runtime shared library?
I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
This is a project I'm working on for a simple demo tutorial application in Flex. I am using mxml pages. You can see to the left that I will have my main application and then other mxml files (In the Examples Package) as the examples that will be loaded into the main application mxml. How can I dynamically pull the value from the object in the list to load the child mxml file into the container that I have further down in the application?

But can I clear the cache? After trashing the files in windows, I don't see the files get downloaded again (with fiddler).

View 2 RepliesI'm currently working on a WYSISYG editor that allows the user to move, resize and rotate shapes by directly manipulating them. The resizing seems to be fairly complex when the shape is rotated. I got this working for non-rotated shapes, but it will take some trigonometric calculations to resize shapes that are rotated. The registration point is always is the middle of the rectangle because this makes rotating a lot easier. Before I start implementing this, I was wondering if anyone knew of any libraries or sample source code that does this, or could share some tips and tricks to calculate the transformations.

EDIT: One simple reason to do this is: if you check the above example, I would prefer mx.events.MoveEvent.MOVE (if available) instead of flash.events.Event.ENTER_FRAME for performance issues.

Rest of the application like filling the textfield and dropdown are working fine.
Is there any way I could automate these degrafa diagrams like clicking on it or changing the description.
I have been searching google, Apache Docs*, and FlashPunk forums looking for an answer to this: I cannot get Ant/Flex to find and compile a folder of libraries in *.AS format.

Results in many errors of the type "Definition net.flashpunk.masks:Grid could not be found" even though when I open the directories I can see the *.AS files right there. I decided to use Ant because neither FlashDevelop for Windows nor Eclipse for Linux seemto work for me.
my Flex project has grown to over 1 Mb in size in release mode and now I am trying to cut it up into modules.
One of my SWC libraries is fairly large and I want to use it in multiple modules, so I think I can turn it into a RSL? how can I go about turning the SWC library into a RSL? I am building with Flash Builder (Flex).

I would like to include an MXML file in my MXML file in the same way you can include an external file in AS3 using the include directive. Using the include directive brings the code from the external file into the original file at compile time placing it in the same scope. For example,

View 2 Replies I work with Flash CS4 and lately I've been looking for certain classes to ease my work. To be more precise Atom/RSS2.0 parsing classes. But the best result I found needed me to work with FLEX. Now I can't get this to work with flash CS4. There's no apparent way to make this work. I can build my own parser or look for one that doesn't need Flex. But it looks like the future is more FLEX oriented.
EDIT : I know how Flex Code and SWC files should work. But every time I try to use them I get some bizarre error about missing classes and methods that are part of FLEX but not included in Flash...
