Do you know any good User Interface libraries for ActionScript? And I'm not interested in Flex: it's big and you can't customize anything at it except for colors and fonts which I don't care about.I am looking for a decent UI library which is good for game development: custom shaped buttons, stuff like that. More customization that Flex ever had that is.

I'm looking for a good "Wizard" library in Flex before rolling my own. The important features are: Multiple custom input panels in sequence. Ability to prepopulate the data fields using an object, but cancelling at any point leaves original data unmodified. Ability to move to back and forth in panel sequence without losing data.

In almost every class I make I'm having to import these[code]...

Is it not importing the same things over and over again into the same flash file? Making the swf bigger and slower?

Is there any way to allow CS3 to use the classes that were added to CS4? I would love to work with the 3d stuff or the File IO stuff that come packaged with CS4 with my students, but can't upgrade the lab to CS4.

At the moment I'm trying to make a game using Box2D and QuickBox2D but I'm having a problem at the moment because the Player character is actually a QuickObject I don't know how to construct a class that extends that.

For instance if I was just to create the object I want in the main constructor it would be something like this:

So how would I go about this?because I'm getting loads of problems one of which is the the 'World' variable can't be accessed within the Player Class.

Flex - Determine If Mx Classes/libraries Are Supported?

I'm writing a helper class and I want it to be used in both flex and pure actionscript projects. For example:

EDIT: One simple reason to do this is: if you check the above example, I would prefer mx.events.MoveEvent.MOVE (if available) instead of flash.events.Event.ENTER_FRAME for performance issues.

I work with Flash CS4 and lately I've been looking for certain classes to ease my work. To be more precise Atom/RSS2.0 parsing classes. But the best result I found needed me to work with FLEX. Now I can't get this to work with flash CS4. There's no apparent way to make this work. I can build my own parser or look for one that doesn't need Flex. But it looks like the future is more FLEX oriented.

EDIT : I know how Flex Code and SWC files should work. But every time I try to use them I get some bizarre error about missing classes and methods that are part of FLEX but not included in Flash...

In the game there is a backing groove played by triggering one movieclip to play. The user triggers short sounds from buttons embedded in drag and drop movie clips to play along with the backing groove.

On Safari or Firefox on mac the timing is absolutely fine.

On IE on Windos XP there is enough latency to make it unplayable.

I am trying to make a sound crossfading between the loops (an example would be: same as in a "Winamp" media player you toggle the Crossfading function in a Modern Skin and select a duration of it). Say I got a loop of 10 seconds, altho it is not perfect as its cut of the song without a proper editing tool. Any way I could accomplish it by using the ActionScript?

I've been trying to make a sound-loop player for quite some time now (i'm new to as3) and i'm pretty close to do it but still Ok, i've made six letters converted them into buttons and i want them to play a different wav sound loop each one whenever i click on them and to stop the sound when i click again.This works fine for the first button but not for the rest of them because i dont know where to insert the similar code for the rest of the buttons.

I am trying to create a movie that has 3 different background sound loops for the user to choose from as well as an on/off button.I followed one of the Kirupa tutorials which enabled me to create 3 different buttons that linked to the 3 sound loops in my library. i'm using the loadSound command to bring in an external mp3 and although the file itself is a perfect loop, flash doesn't seem to like playing it back as such using the s.start (0, 5) tag. any suggestions on how to get perfect loops?

Right now the sound fades 5 seconds before the end of the first loop (since the fade code is based on the duration of the sound clip).Seems like there needs to be a way to count when the duration has been reached two times and then the fade code is executed. Attached I have a small .fla that basically does the following:

1. A button is clicked (calling the playSound function)
2. The sound is then played, also a small instance of the button is called from the AS library and placed within a sprite that is within a movie clip at the bottom. The event listener is also removed from the main button so it can only be called once.
3. When the small instance of the button is pressed (within the sprite) it stops the sound, removes the icon and re enables the buttons event listener.

It all works fine, and it is worth mentioning I am still new to Flash but getting to understand it more. I plan on having 20 buttons on the screen, and surely theres an easier way then having 20 functions, all more or less doing the same thing!

In the second chapter it teaches you how to integrate the login for to another app.Basically I'm looking for a book that teaches you real working application rather than abstract ideas. Programming language I have in mind is Adobe Air/Flex, Visual Basic. Functions I have in mind should at least cover Drag and Drops, Integration to a web form (form entry) and customizable interfaces.The languages i had in mind isn't fix. If you know a programming platform that has little code or easy to learn but still be able to develop a cool application.

I'm working on a Flash movie that includes a simple on/off audio player. At the end of the movie it loops back to the beginning and plays again. if the viewer hits the sound off button it will turn the sound off untill the movie loops and then the audio automatically starts again. The viewer would then have to hit play again and then stop to stop it. Is it possible to fix this? I think that I ned to put a piece of code at the beginning of the movie to check if the sound is off or not and then to continue to keep it off if needed?Here is the code for the sound player I am using...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Handling Sound Effects In Several Classes?

I'm working on a pause feature for my game and the only issue giving me trouble is how to pause/restart the sound effects and music that is being played in various classes.

I do understand how to record the position when stopping and then play from the new position. All code examples are based on a single sound being played at a time.

I have multiple channels to handle music and for various sound effect categories (so the volume may be controlled separately).

Currently, all of the channels are all in a single class but the sound effects they are assigned (.play commands) are executed within each class (Bullet, Enemy, Tank, etc...)

I'm sure other developers have experience with sound effects in various classes as well... so how did you handle pausing multiple channels and then restarting all of the same sounds that were playing previously?

I'm trying to compile a SWC file with a lot of assets in it in an as easy possible way. "Easy" for a not so technical end user, not perse the way to acchieve that goal. Goal is to streamline a process to generate SWC files with as little possible tech for the person doing it.So, sort of like manually doing:

* Import files into Flash

* For each library item select "Export for actionscript" and have Flash generate the basic class.

* Publish as SWC

but without the Flash IDE and the possibly labourous process.Right now I'm trying to put an AIR project together that generates classes based on a file list. The classes can than be added to a Flash Builder library project to generate a SWC file from it (copy in finder, check classes in Project properties, done)I can generate the classes for graphics like below. Such a class can then be instantiated from within the host application [code] Allthough this adds another level to the display list (which looks kinda sloppy to me), it works.However, for this to work for sound files I need to create a class implementing all possible methods and properties of the soundclass and handle the events and such. There is no way to extend Sound and then do something like you would/can with graphics.[code]Does anyone know if there is a way to get to the format the Flash IDE generates the classes with?

Is there a ContentCache[1] for sound assets? Once I load in a sound I want to keep a reference to it so it doesn't have to load again. Possibly a class reference to it or to the byte array (I'm rusty here).

The reason for this is to keep it in memory so the Flash Player doesn't have to reload it so the start time (latency) is low. These are short audio clips.

Flash - Why MX Libraries Are In SWF

I have a pure AS3 project. I use Ant to build it. Here is a part of my ant script:

The problem is that my resulting SWF is really big. When I checked what is inside I saw that it has mx.* libs from Flex. Why it is like this? How to kick mx.* from my SWF? In my code I don't use anything from mx.* library.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Unexpected Errors, Multiple Helper Classes, Extended Classes?

The examples I'll use don't do anything - they're classes without ANY members - no variables, methods, anything.

Let's say I extends Sprite and call it MySprite.

I save it in test.core

Now I create another custom class called MyWindow that extends MySprite.

I save it in test.windows

[code]...

Then I create another class that extends MyWindows (the example I'll use is a document class - but that doesn't matter - I've tested using an instance too).

[code]...

Notice that I'm not even trying to instantiate the helper classes - just having them there throws the error.

If there is only a single helper class, everything runs fine.

Also note that - as far as I can tell - this only happens when extending one class from another package, then extending that class with more than one helper object.I'm pretty sure there's no namespace bumps or typographical errors, as this is a very pared-down version of the original application.

EDIT: seems the problem exists even without the crossing packages - even extending MySprite in the document class with multiple internal classes generates this error.

I am creating a library in AS3. Inside the library I make use of a bunch of classes/packages that need not be exposed to the end user of my lib. I want to only expose one of these classes.

I guess my questions are:

1) How are libraries commonly distributed in AS3?

2) Is there a .jar equivalent in AS3 that developers can include, but will only have access/knowledge of the classes I've declared as public?
