Oct 11, 2011I'm looking for suggestions regarding implementing process flow / work flow management in a PureMVC based application. Our Flex application includes a number of processes such as account creation, payment processing, etc. Within our team, there is some discussion of how rigidly we should adhere to the PureMVC model. Within the PureMVC model, it seems reasonable that the current state in the process could be managed in a Proxy. Commands are clearly responsible for processing the actions required of each node and for node transitions. Mediators for managing the UI.
However, I think that there is an important bit still missing here: a ProcessController. The approaches we've reviewed all seem to either violate the PureMVC model (even just slightly) or make unreadable code. A proxy would maintain the state of the process. As such, it seems to be an appropriate way to implement the controller. However, this is putting a lot of business logic into the proxy.

Nov 11, 2010I developing an AIR application in Flex that would be dealing with playing different SWFs. I am finding some issues as these SWFs that I am playing are heavy. I find that the animation is not smooth and is causing the graph of CPU usage to go high (my be because single thread architecture of Flex). I am therefore planning to have a multi process architecture for my application. Something like Google Chrome. I have one main application as one process and other SWFs would be playing in separate process but should be seen inside the main application window. How to make it possible in Flex?

May 28, 2010I'm creating a large project with many different FLAs using symbols pulled from a shared library FLA at author time. It works great, however, the workflow could be simplified (possibly) if the shared library were saved in XFL format.I saved a copy of the shared library FLA as XFL. Then, I tried to import a symbol to another FLA from the XFL as author-time symbol references. Flash recognized the XFL document as an accepted source, but did not offer a menu giving a selection of symbols.

Flash And Flex Workflow Using A SWC?
Oct 13, 2009I want to use the strengths of both Flex and Flash in an upcoming project. Doing the graphical related stuff in Flash and all the coding in Flex.
What i want to do is create a layout in flash making classes as you would normally by creating symbols and exporting them for actionscript etc. Then i want to export them as a SWC and edit all the classes in Flexbuilder. A CustomButton symbol is given a CustomSymbol.as ie. extend the classes in the SWC which will give the same functionality. This however wont work if i got nested layouts. Since the components laid out in flash are not of the same type. I somehow want to directly get in control of the Classes in the SWC.
Flex :: Module Development Workflow?
Oct 6, 2009I have just started looking into using Modules in Flex and would like to know how you all go about developing them.I understand how to use them (load, unload, application domains, shared classes, etc.), but I'm wondering what a good workflow is in creating them and using them in multiple applications.If I were building reusable application components (text editor, image cropper, compass, whatever), and I wanted to reuse them in many different applications, it seems like I would:
1) Create an Application specifically for one of those modules
2) Create a Module inside that Application
3) Develop the Module by itself, make it work right
4) Link shared libraries to it somehow (like library projects I would use between all of the modules)
5) ... then I'm unclear what's next.I now have lets say 10 Module/Applications, and I want to start mashing them together into usable applications.What's the best way to do this?I would like to not have to copy-paste code and swfs, using something like git submodules if an equivalent is possible.

Apr 16, 2010I'm in the process of planning a banner project, where I want to being able to output all banner formats (about 10+ of them) from the same flex project. They will all contain pretty much the same content but with some variation, and because of the size limit I want to load only the necessary assets for each format.
I wonder if there's a way to dynamically load different assets (in form of swf or swc) depending on some setting? I can of course load different swf:s into the main swf but I want only one swf per format. How about launch configurations, is there a way to choose different swc:s there?

Feb 6, 2008I have created a pie preloader(preloader.zip) which is working fine. Same preloader I am trying to incorporate in a xml based slideshow(slideshow.zip) to show image loading process but some how I got stuck. I am new to flash. Suggestions are welcome.
1. How to solve the problem of preloader2. Is it possible to integrate everything in a movie clip (including AS). I mean no AS on main time line but inside the movie clip. It would be much easier then to to create multiple slideshows by duplicating mc and changing the xml file.

Flex not able to run CMD.exe when application installed in C:Program Files (x86). When I run application as Administrator mode it is working fine. Flex :: Make Testing Process Automatic Flex Release?
Mar 31, 2011I posted the same question but I think it was not so clear. Now I am rephrasing my question with real problem.I have a flex application. It is basically a web application. On it I have a player that play avi files and some buttons and tabs along side.The application also have recording button that records that direct stream from an IP cam and store that stream on the media (USB). How can I automate function testing of such application. Like I have confusion that when I press the recording button but can I be sure that recording starts? I have tried RIATest and flexUnit 4.

Create Virtual Designer (Vizualization Tool)?
Nov 26, 2011I am a homebuilder and I would like to create an exterior visualization tool to help my clients choose thier exterior siding, roofing & brick colors. My on-staff architect can create photo-realistic renderings of our different models. The question is how would I go about substituting materials for different parts of the home. Would I start with a base model with no textures applied and then have each of the textures or colors applied? Would this be acheived using masks?

Jun 23, 2009To enter static text in Flash, the only measurement option available for the text size is points,while the measurement for"Letter Spacing" appears to be pixels (based on my own observations, can't find documentation to verify this). Can either option be changed so that both options are measuring pixels or point/em units?
For instance in InDesign, the type size is in points and the "Tracking" is 1/000th em (see comment here). Both measurements are based on the same basic unit, while Flash seems to be using two different basic units of measuring.

Apr 6, 2011What is the best solution for multi threading in flex, I notice if I play a mp3 in flex and do something else at the same time something ends up giving out, either the song stops playing or the UI hangs for about a split second. It doesn't have that fluid response that I am looking to achieve. If possible I would like to call a multi threaded java class to do some of the client-side end back end processing. I just don't know if that is possible.

Jul 25, 2011I was trying to build an application where a designer has created content on the timeline as a sequence of key frames. Each key frame is completely different. When the application is started I choose one of the frames, move the play head to that frame and stop (using gotoAndStop). Next, by referring to symbols in the key frame by name, I use AS3 to allow drag and drop, and I also do some programmatic movement.
The problem is that when I move to a different key frame on the timeline using gotoAndStop, the symbols that were touched by AS3 in the previous frame, even if they are not referenced by the designer's key frame, show up on the stage. It is as though any DisplayObject that I touch with AS3 becomes divorced from the timeline.
how to programatically work with timeline (MovieClip) content that was manually created by a designer. This just seems like it should be a really common use case. It seems that about the only thing I can do safely with the timeline is to move the play head and respond to events (if I don't change the state of DisplayObjects in the timeline). Also, is there any good documentation on how objects get allocated and destroyed when the timeline plays?

Flex :: Running A Java Program With A .dll From Adobe AIR's Native Process
Jun 18, 2010I would like to be able to operate a scanner from my AIR application. Since there's no support for this natively, I'm trying to use the NativeProcess class to start a jar file that can run the scanner. The Java code is using the JTwain library to operate the scanner. The Java application runs fine by itself, and the AIR application can start and communicate with the Java application. The problem seems to be that any time I attempt to use a function from JTwain (which relies on the JTwain.dll), the application dies IF AIR STARTED IT.[code]
