When I GZIP an swf file, the size goes from 1,21 mb to 1,86 mb...I guess, as a colleague of mine said, that the swf is already binary and can't be compressed anymore.Conclusions is also that zipping swf files shouldn't be done.
View 3 RepliesI'm having some trouble getting around a security restriction of flex. Saving a file is apparently an action that can only be invoked upon user interaction. The problem is that after my user clicks on the save button, I need to perform a database query to get the data for the file I want to save.
Because Flex works asynchronous, I have to make the database call and then catch the ResultEvent in a different function. In that function, I no longer have the user's mouseclick event. How am I then supposed to save this file?

I'm animating a brick path forming brick by brick.I used a single brick symbol and repeated it over and over until it formed a path.The file was a lot larger than I expected it to be since I used really only one brick. Does the fact that I have a slew of layers explain why my file is on the heavier side?Would the file be smaller if I used a single image of a complete brick path and animated a mask to reveal one brick at a time?

Am unsure how this could have happened. I've tried optimizing the pictures in the file, and deleting unnecessary tweens (etc) - but no changes. I'veeven tried re-saving the file as something else, as well as the 'save and compact' command.
How to add preloader for the bigger file size like 10MB. How long will take to load this size?

I have a problem that is driving me nuts. I have been googling for the last two days now, but I still haven't found the solution to my problem.
I'm creating a list of courses for an LMS where the data is pulled in from an XML file. All that works perfectly well.
The user should be able to filter the list based on a number of parameters and I have been able to get some of it working (the very simple filters) but other things just wont work.
For example - I am able to filter the results based on the node values that are located directly under the main "course" node. However each of these main course nodes also contain a "sub-node" called "Categories". What I really need is to be able to filter based on the content found in that categories node as well.[code]...
I've recently upgraded to CS5 and the Media Encoder creates incredibly HUGE files compared to the CS4 media encoder.
For example, I can convert a 15MB mpg file to a 12 MB flv file in CS4 using the preset "FLV same as source"
I do not find a matching preset in CS5, but tried "FLV - match source atributes (medium quality)" Encoding the same file in CS5 with this preset results in 170MB file.
I've tried adjusting the settings, comparing the options in both versions, and I still can't get a reasonably sized file out of the CS5 media encoder.
This seems really broken to me. A 170 MB file is not useful in any way. Do I have bad presets?
Adobe Media Encoder version is 5.0.1.0 (32-bit)
I am creating an interactive cd which basically runs a blank projector which then loads in various swf files from fscommand folder as and when required.
Part of the CD is a quiz - created using one of the standard flash templates. When this is loaded into the main projector as a swf file it runs perfectly until it gets to the "results page" - at this point it returns the blank templates e.g Answered = 0.
If you play the swf file on it's own it works fine. If you play the file as a projector on it's own it works fine too.
The problem only occurs when it is loaded into the main projector on a level above the root.
The swf that I saved appears to be blank. When I run it from the saved location, it comes up blank but when opened in the decompiler it plays. But when I save out the FLA from the decompiler, it saves what appears to be an empty FLA. One would guess that they are dynamically loading info from the web but I am finding no Actionscript to even do that.

I have a application developed in flex deployed on server. In the application data is filled by user and saved in cookies so as to be available even when the user closes the application. However if new version of application is released the user can still access the older version saved in the cahe. How can it be assured that whenever a new version of application is released the application is loaded from the server and not from the cache and at the same time data saved in the older version (in cookies) can also be accessed in the new version.

I already made a part of it in MXML and a bit of action script but I encountered a few problems that are over my newbie limits. So the Flex Builder 2 makes a SFW file, in the main folder of the "project". I want to make that SWF file my main executable file. I have a folder with some pics, and another folder with Action Script Files. The code lvl that I know atm is ABSOLUTE BEGINER... Next problem. I dont know how to make the Stage to be fix. I mean.. I dont want the stage to be resizeble. I tryed to change the stagescalemode but that wasn't it. I am compiling my css files to swf files and loading them at run time. I have no problem compiling these and using ClassReference statements most of the time:

Does not work. The difference is that the HeaderBackground is a class in the same project as the css file. That does compiel fine if I move the style into my mxml file though.
I wonder if the compiler uses different source paths when compiling the css fiels or something. This is in FlashBuilder 4 build 269271 SDK 13963
I have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.

There is a problem I am facing at the moment, I am aiming to style the buttons in a way that is similar to the way I can style HTML button elements. However, I could not achieve such look and feel. For example, I could not find a way to define the color and thickness of the borders for each side of the button (top, bottom, left, right), the background color, the margins, the padding, the width, and the height of the button. Also, selector such as hover, active, focus are not available. I was only able to change the size and the font color of the button successfully.

I'm using NoChumps zip library to extract files from a zip. In this library the entire IDataStream is loaded into memory and after that you can extract file entries easily. In cases where the zip is 5 to 10MB there are no problems. But when the zip is 80MB, which many are, 80MB is loaded into memory. This causes the app to crash and run slow on mobile devices. According to the zip specification,
"A ZIP file is identified by the presence of a central directory located at the end of the file, this allows appending of new files. The directory stores a list of the names of the entries (files or directories) stored in the ZIP file, along with other metadata about the entry, and an offset into the ZIP file, pointing to the actual entry data."
Also, I do not have control of the size of zip files but most average is 60 to 100MB. Files inside are ~4MB.

View 2 RepliesI load a "cal" swf file in another swf files mdi_window. So the window is moveable inside the application. The issue is with the x y axis for the popups that open up in cal swf. The code for the function that opens popup is:

The x & y axis of the popup act wired based on the location of the mdi_window in which the Cal.swf is being loaded. The x & y axis work fine if I move the mdi_window all the way on the top left corner of the application. The first image shows how the popup opens when I double-click on the 10:00 AM purple color event on my calendar.
and now when I move my window the popup moves to the side as well. I clicked on the same 10:00Am purple event again here: How can I solve this issue.

Currently I'm working on a project that uses flex and cake php. I heard that there is a 1GB of file size limitation in flex file uploader.
I wrote a mobile application ( AIR ) which storing some strings into a SqlLite database.It is external database file, which shall reside in a sub folder of the main application folder.So far everything works flawless while debugging on the PC, but when i am exporting the application into .APK file the result package does not contain the database, neither the database folder.
