I was looking for examples of Javascript games and I came across this. It looks like Flash. I tried looking at the source code, and all I see are a bunch of div tags, but not really any Javascript. I couldn't find the code that actually runs the game.

I have been working on a Flash projector. At one point, there are two Flash buttons. However, when they are clicked, they don't do what I programmed them to do. (I know because I inserted a trace() statement inside the on (release) function, and the trace text was never outputted.) Instead, the buttons send the timeline to the same frame when I click either of them. The buttons don't do what they should, and do what they shouldn't.on (release) {gotoAndPlay("inst");trace("btn inst event: clickrelease");}"btn inst event: clickrelease" never appears in the output window. Instead of sending the timeline to "inst," it sends the timeline to frame 10.

I want to program a Flash file in ActionScript 3 so that the user of the SWF file can make changes to the program and these changes will be automatically applied to the original FLA file without any human intervention. A new SWF file will be activated containing the changes and this is all done without human intervention. The objective is to allow the user to make changes to a SWF file and have these changes made automatically. Is this possible to do in Flash?

A great bit of functionality to implement would be protocol handling. iTunes, for instance, handles itms protocols; when your friend sends you a link beginning with "itms://", it's going to launch iTunes as long as it's installed. Is there a way to write an AIR app (requiring AIR 2 would be fine) that can be the "handler" for a protocol in this way?

But its not working properly, I just get to see the starting and end point, can't see the movieclip travelling across the stage smoothly as I get to see if I create a simple Classic Tween.
View 1 RepliesI am using Flash CS3 targeting flashplayer 9. I have created a menu that has 5 simple buttons in it. I use
a actionscript tween to move the menu from off the stage into view and back again. For some reason when the menu comes on the stage the hittable area of the buttons seems to be getting affected. I am dropping the menu onto the stage so I am only tweening the y property like so

When the menu comes into view it is like the hittable area of the button gets squashed vertically down.Even though the text still appears perfectly fine and the background of the button looks right the cursor will only click on a small sliver at the very bottom of each button. Has anyone else seen this?
I have a dummy clip in my Flash application where I want to load the final content to.Now everything seemd to work. When I do a addChild() on the complete event, the addedToStage event is triggerd, I can do a gotoAndStop but it isn't visible. Just when I do a tage.addChild() or a root.addChild() I can see it. Even "root.myClip_mc.addChild()" doesn't work. The clip where I want to add it is at position 0,0.

Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.
The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?
Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.
The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

So i have flash file which has a close button. on click of that i am calling this function which closes this item. So issue is? If i pass this "closeItemFunction" as global function this works fine. but if a pass this function as a "data.closeItem" this doesn;t work throwing some falsh error. so i just wanna ask that "does flash only call gobal scoped javascript function" ??
View 2 RepliesWith all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

I have a flash file that contains a package "game" which has a class "Scores" and a method setValue(). I want to write some lines of Javascript that allow me to call that method. Someone directed me to this tutorial, but I am still a bit confused.

displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works? I know a Flash object can provide a javascript API to interact with it, what I dont know is can Flash send an email directly without the need to talk to the webserver to do so? The player needs to be javascript enabled (support methods like play, stop etc.) The mp3 tracklist will be built dynamically using ajax on the same page as the player so it must trigger an event when a track finishes playing (or at least provide functionality of some kind to indicate that it's time to start the next track). for some reason, whenever I dynamically load a swf on a $(document).ready() by writing to a div, I am unable to make javascript calls to the browser. Specifically, all calls to the browser return "null". This does not occur when embedding the swf normally on the page load, but I would like to prevent loading of the swf until a specified point in time.
What the heck is going on here? Is there something special about dynamically embedding a swf that prevents the swf from talking to the browser? The methods ARE called (I've proven such by showing alerts), but all return values to any function, regardless of type returned, shows as null when it gets to flash.

We're experiencing issues with memory and we're looking to replace the shell.swf with a JavaScript-based loader.Two questions:What would be a good framework to dynamically load the Flex components and allow the modules to communicate between each other?Would dynamically loading/unloading the modules via JavaScript take care of the typical memory problems associated with Flex/Flash applications?

[URL] I agree that javascript and css can be used to replicate some of Flash's animation, though Flash does all sorts of scaling and tweening that is incredibly powerful, and I'm not sure that there's anything comparable in javascript, if there is, I certainly haven't seen it.
However, my question is about the socket. Flash has an incredibly powerful openSocket class that allows you to connect to a server and have the server and the client talk back and forth to one another. As far as I know there is no equivalent class in Javascript. Am I mistaken? Is there some secret mystery Ajax class that replicates the openSocket? If not, then that feature alone makes Flash an invaluable tool.
I am refactoring some code. I have a PHP page that contains a MySQL query and stores the result in a PHP variable $my_result. This result is then echoed to a Flash SWF during embedding with SWFObject. I now want to call this PHP page that makes the query from a javascript function like so - one change I have made to the PHP is that instead of storing the result in a variable $my_result I am echoing the result.
