Mar 1, 2010Is it possible to allow users to paste image data into a Website? That is, they have an image in the clipboard and can paste it into an HTML Site? (I would then somehow grab the bytes and store them - persistence isn't the problem here) It needs to be Cross-Browser IE8, FF3.5 and Chrome 4, but I can use browser plugins like Silverlight, Flash or bare JavaScript if possible (I might even use Browser Plugins, although that would be painful to manage and IE would need ActiveX is guess...). Also since it's an internal site, I can add the site to the Local Intranet Zone in IE (not sure if that changes stuff for Firefox and Chrome).

May 9, 2011I need to upload an image to a SWF, however I can't use ActionScript for it because the client wants drag-and-drop capability. I figure that I can make the upload button cause a popup, where there is JavaScript for drag-and-drop. The SWF allows for some photo manipulation, so the image needs to be uploaded, and be in the SWF for that use. how can I make that image accessible to the SWF file?

I would like to make sure that if the user has a old version of flash player, or doesn't have it at all, a backup image will display in place of the flash, how can I accomplish that?

Mar 8, 2011I have a site I have created for a client which features a flash header image, the only problem is he accessed a draft of the site on his iPhone and was put off by the fact it didn't display any of the head image as it was an iPhone (which as we know are not flash happy!). Also, I would need this anyway incase the visitor has flash turned off or uninstalled (I have provided the usual 'install flash' link when flash isn't displayed).Is there a way I can do this with just HTML/CSS or will I have to use JS or something similar?I have tried adding tags but this does nothing.

Dec 23, 2011I am using Google's Audio player to play an MP3 on a webpage. My issue is that I am overlaying an image on top of the the play/pause button. Yet when the image is clicked nothing happens. Here is the code:

That did not work. One thing I noticed is if I have visibility:hidden; the flash player will not respoind to any clicks regardless of what is over it. With that said I attempted to overlay the image using <input> without the visibility:hidden; and it still did not work.
I need to get this fixed if at all possible. I am willing to use another flash player that is similar as long as it works correctly and will use an mp3 like above.

All working fine. Problem here is that is takes some time to generate flash chart. So it's creating a blank image or image in middle form flash file exporting it to PDF.

I'd like for users to be able to simply click a button on my page, instead of having to need to manually take a screenshot of the entire page and then crop the image to show only the SWF element.I found a Jquery method, although I am unsure if it could work with SWF files. It basically captures an area of an Image element on the page and allows you to save that as a separate image. What I would need however, is to capture the SWF as the image instead. Note: I do not have access to the SWF code so I cannot achieve this using Actionscript or anything like that

I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.
The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?

May 20, 2011Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.
The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

Jul 10, 2009Cryptic title, but it's hard to explain. With Firefox, head over to [URL] do a random search, and then drag the first search result to the URL bar. You'll see it it goes to the page that had the image anchor. Then click the "see full size image" link, and then drag the image to the address bar. In the first example, it copied the anchor, not the image, to the address bar. And in the second example, it took the URL of the image itself. Is there a way to get to the image inside the anchor?
I'm using a drop target that's in an iframe on another domain, so targetting the img's directly and adding JS events is out. I don't expect to be able to do this with straight JS (though I hope). In fact I'm not even sure if flash/actionscript can do this! My thought is I need to set up a drop target and get details about the element that was dropped... if it's an anchor, I can dive into the DOM and get the img inside it. This, of course, assumes that the DOM element itself is what's being dragged and that the browser isn't just copying the link.

Mar 10, 2011I need to change the color of an image on a website. The image is of a carport, so the texture and shadow's needs to stay consistent. If I change the color by just swapping the images with other ones in a different color I would have to have approximately 7500 images and I don't think it would be the most efficient way of doing this, so I am asking the community if there is a jQuery code that would allow me to place some sort of color filter on top of a white carport and change the color real-time on the website?This is a sample of one of the images I have to start with.The only thing that can change color is the roof part, the metal rails in the image cannot change color and the background cannot change color either.

May 10, 2010With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works?
