I am interested in creating a website that needs to know as much specific hardware (ie computer model, cpu model, RAM size, etc) as possible.
Are you aware of any method to find out this information? I know about ActiveX controls, however I'd prefer to use a more flexible method. Javascript? Asp.NET? Flash? Java? Silverlight?
How can we get the browser name and version through which the current streaming is takes place?

View 1 RepliesI am at a point where I need to access some web services to download information from my SWF using AS 3.0.I have not been able to find any built-in support for web service invocation and consumption of results in AS 3.0. Am I looking in the right places? (note: I am not familiar with Flex and I am not using it).
So what I did was to build my own HTTP/SOAP request and POSTing it using a URLRequest. That works and I got the results back, however, I was just looking at the results and was wondering if there is some library out there that can help me parse the XML results of the web service call.
Is there any built-in support for calling and parsing web service data for AS 3.0? And if not, any useful tools out there that can make this task easier/simpler?
I created a photo album viewer which grabs an XML file from my web site, and then parses the XML to get the paths to all the photos to be displayed by the album viewer. The code makes use of the URLLoader class to fetch the XML. The problem, though, is that in google Chrome it works-- but in IE8, it doesn't work. For example, the XML code and the image fetching code work seemlessly on Chrome. But in IE8 and in IE6, it seems to not be able to fetch such information.
I've read somewhere that you need a crossdomain.xml file at the root directory of your server. But I'm not crossing any domains! It's all coming from my server where the swf is being hosted!
is it possible to extend the access.log file? I want to pass user information via the connect method to the application and want to include this data in the access.log file.

If I am playing a video and I want to append some string every time when that video is played, which is in some way useful to me in analyzing FMS log, then is there anything provided or some function in which we can just pass the string as an input argument that appends it at appropriate place in the log file.
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a project (using flash builder 4.5) where a user can click on one of a number of pictures to perform an action. The images are all loaded into an array of UIComponents through actionscript. I have a private variable as follows:
private var _selectedChild:UIComponent;
Which keeps track of which UIComponent is currently "selected" (was the last item clicked). I just want to show an Alert when the picture is clicked displaying it's id and the source filename.
Alert.show("Current id: " + _selectedChild.id + " -- filename: " + _selectedChild.source);
The id comes out easy with _selectedChild.id, but there is no such thing as .source - I looked throughout the entire list of possible variables eclipse gives me and I can't figure out which one would display the url or the source. I feel like I might be missing something easy - does anyone know how to get this information from a UIComponent?

My SWF reads this php file perfectly when the html/SWF is run from my browser locally (on my computer), but DOES NOT WORK when the html/SWF is loaded from a server. There is no error message, and the request never triggers the "OPEN" event.
This makes no sense to me since the URL request is made from my IP address, whether I download the html and SWF from a server or run it locally, right? Also, I can directly access the php in my browser. The PHP is running under the ModX CMS.
For an internal project we would like to play with building a video conferencing system.We are able to decide the browser that the user has to use and can install plugins. The only requirement is that the browser and plugins must be free and work over Linux and Mac.(Don't care about Windows)What is the best way to do access the webcam and mic stream from a user for sending to a server? While I was playing I deleted all those temporary files including the sounds and flash files. But it didn't affect the game at all. Why is that? I checked in fiddler and it doesn't look like the files were redownloaded.

in other words, suppose I want to send data, like text, programmatically from a Windows app (such as a browser plugin) to a Flash app running in the browser. Well, conceptually, an example of this might be a Flash instant messenger with a textbox and button "Send"; so let's say I want to be able to programmatically paste the text and press Send or otherwise activate it. View 2 Replies I have a PHP mailer form on my site which needs to be published in action script2 to work, but I also have a script set up to open browser windows of a certain size & location which needs actionscript 1 to work? The PHP mailer form has a "Name" field, "Email" field & "Message" field, theses can all be reset with a button. The button clears off any text in the 3 boxes to wipe them clean. The script on the reset button is:
