I am using a magnifying glass as part of my portfolio but when I click on another section and this loads an external swf above the main movie, because you can still see the main movie below, you can see the magify glass still moving as you move the cursor above?any ideas how I can stop the magnify glass moving while i am on the external swf above?
the best way to do it but i have a preloader the loads an external swf that loads 2 external swf files. one on layer o and the other 1.it seems to load the swf on layer 1 twice.url...if i run the swf that loads the 2 external swf files by it's self and the same problem happens.mouse over the navagation button and then mouse over the close button and follow the animation down to were it turns back into the navagation button. sometimes the close stays up.if i run the swf file that just contains the navagation it dosen't happen.
im currently making an "AS3 beat em up" ala streets of rage or double dragon.Currently i have my character moving and a few animations done and i am trying to figure out how to make attacks work.I have some "basic" animation for his attack, but im not sure how to get it to work correctley.What happens is, if you press control (the attack button) whilst the character is walking he just keeps moving and is stopped on the attack frame.I want the character to stop moving if the attack is pressed and once it is released start moving again.
hero.gotoAndStop('still'); var left:Boolean = false; var right:Boolean = false;[code].......
I have a MC that follows the mouse. I want to do so the MC will smoothly/softly stop when i stop moving the mouse. Is it hard to code, And it would be very nice if someone could do some code for it
With AS3 I managed to resolve the problem I said in the thread, but now I face a new problem.If you hit the wall, it will register a collision as it should. Goes the same for the exit. But if you look to the upper left, there's a rotating rectangle. If you hit the rotating rectangle, it will register a collision IF YOUR CURSOR MOVED.That's right, if you freeze the cursor in place as the rectangle comes sweeping in, it WILL NOT register a collision, meaning if it were a maze game, people could cheat by just staying still.I forgot, here's the code:
I have a fill-in-the-gaps exercise and I have added a hint button which checks to see which part of the word a student has entered is correct and then adds the next (correct) letter to the end of the string. My problem is that the cursor stays just in front of the added letter instead of going to the end of the string. I've tried selecting the letter that has just been added and for a second the last letter is highlighted but then the cursor goes back to its original place. Here's the code I'm using:
function showLetter() { hints++; //get the text the student has entered currentWord = eval("gap"+currentGap).gap_txt.text;

I have 2 input text boxes. On entering the data in 1st input text and pressing "ENTER" key, the focus should move to the 2nd input text box. I tried this by method Selection.sefocus(<variable>), but the focus does not move to the 2nd input text. This in flash5.
so i have a project where i will be making a website. I will be using flash to make it interactive and visually appealing. I found a website with a really cool entrance page,please view it he mouse moves, the background looks like its moving.
I'm making a text box where the user can type in whatever they want, but they can press "Enter" to make a new line. I am using the following code to do this:
I'm working on a Curling game and have a broom moving back and forth based on the mouseX position. Although I thought it would be as simple as recording the current broom position vs. the previous broom position that's not the case. This is because when you move back and forth the current and last postion may be at the very same point, like the center of the screen, depending on when exactly the mouse position is recorded. So, moving the mouse very slowly may give the same result and moving the mouse super fast where the x coordinate just happens to be recorded at or near the same point.
I tried using both an enterFrame event and a timer. Both yielded essentially the same results. I can't think of a way around this off the top of my head. Is there another way to record how fast the user is moving the mouse back and forth?
what wrong with the functin 'stopFish' Without this function the fish in the tank swims but when I add it, it doesnt anymore. I just want the fish to stop swimming after I clicked it and start swimming after another click.
Lets say I have subgallery.swf file that loads jpeg images. And I have gallery.swf file that loads subgallery.swf.The jpeg images and both swf files are in the same folder.When I test gallery.swf it loads subgallery.swf but subgallery.swf doesn't load images. When testing subgallery.swf alone, it loads jpeg files.Is there any limitation or setting preventing external swfs loading other content?

1. I have a main.swf that loads external swfs. I am trying to stop the background music when one loads a specfic swf, and start the music when one leaves that swf. Here's the code I came up with, but it doesn't work.
I have a movieclip I'm dragging and dropping. When I drag the clip outside of the stage, it gets stuck in drag mode and when I bring the cursor back onto the stage it suddenly snaps back onto the cursors position and it continues to drag (basically screwing up my drag and drop sequence). What I'd like is for the clip to stop dragging and snap back to its original X and Y position whenever you drag it outside the SWFs stage. I tried to achieve this by adding a listener to the stage to listen for a MOUSE_UP event when the drag begins. But its not working and I keep getting errors.
Here is my code, it's all contained in a document class:
ActionScript Code: //Add Event Listeners to MovieClip that is dragged alarmLrg_mc.buttonMode = true;
[Code]....
Which I don't understand because dropClip isn't a property its a function. If anyone can explain how I need to modify my code to make the clip stop dragging or if I can constrain the drag so you can't drag it outside the stage in the first place that could perhaps work as well.
I have a magnify glass cursor for my portfolio website and it's working fine, except I need it to stop before it reaches the edges of the stage as when it is in a browser it "cuts off" the magnify glass and it looks weird, see on my site and move the cursor to the very right or left: [URL]. The code I have to control my glass is here and I just need to be able to add some x,y etc coordinates somewhere to stop it at certain points on the stage?
how to stop a ball from bouncing up and down when I grab the ball with my cursor?Currently, I have two sections of code, one for a drop and drag, and one to reenact the effects of gravity on my ball.I don't want the ball to start bouncing right away,I want it to either start bouncing when I drag it and let go, or start bouncing when I click a button.I would also like it to STOP bouncing altogether if I grab the ball. (because even though I can drag it around, the bouncing animation is still running!)Here's my current code: (With one "ball_mc" on the stage)
// creating some gravity var spring:Number=.1; var frizione:Number=.98;[code]........

Im going to attatch the fla on here...I am also going to give you the script viewable here...im completely a beginner so i made my self notes also this is not all my coding im just learning off of it to create my own project... What coding would i use to tell the mc to stop scrolling once it reaches a certain x coordinate? for example x=0 (left side of stage) or x= -484 which is when right side of picture is at right side of stage... and can i setup math for it to automatically determine the correct x coordinate (based off mc width) to stop at?? if there is easier scripting to do the same....fill me in
oh and x is off of the stage typically...this is panoramic pics im scrolling
I have this code where I want edge_btn to move to the left side of the stage, but I can't figure out how to get it to stop. It just keeps going. Also, I have edge_btn rotating the entire time in the beginning of the timeline.
I am making a new site, and was making buttons that looked a little similar like this buts on the left) and wanted that to do with Actionscript.I followed a tutorial on Kirupa on moving stuff with actionscript
I am creating an interactive map. It has little bullets that, when you hover over them, display a short description of the room and a link to another page. What I am trying to do is make it so that the user can hover off of the bullet, and onto the link to the seperate page, without the link and description disappearing because of leaving the bullet's "hit" area.
Do I have to define another hit area for the description and link somehow?
I need to stop my cursor from moving on certain points on the stage. I'm using a magnifying glass effect but in the browser this only show the glass up to the stage so I need to stop it moving past those points. You can see what I mean if you move the magnify glass to the very left or right here:
