I know that I can place a hitTest on an instance of a symbol using: onClipEvent(enterFrame){ if(this.hitTest(_root.someMC_mc))//do something } but can I place the hitTest in the symbol so that all instances of the symbol perform the hitTest?

i just would like to know how to create an "hitTest" script inside a movieclip that is actually part of that hitTest code?I mean... I have mc A, and mc B. and the current hitTest code im using (that is on the timeline) makes mc A, destroy mc B when collide with it... but there are many mc B on the stage (with the same instance name) so, when mc A collide with one mc B, it destroys ALL mc's B... but i want it to destroy only the mc B that he collides, not all the others... maybe an hitTest script inside a movieclip B would work (somethig like "if MC A hitTest ME = i die" (not all the others)).

I've been trying to work around this for a long time and no matter where i ask no one can give me any kind of solution to this... even when the problem itself doesn't look that hard but its hard to explain.I was trying to make a very simple kind of maze game with a flat perspective (like the 90s RPG) the maze walls must be four sided solid, the left and right walls are not a big issue but the top and bottom walls have the problem, for example the top walls must allow the player's head and body to go over it but stop at his feet and the bottom is something alike.My idea to solve this was put another symbol inside the player and put it on the lower part and another symbol inside the wall and make the hittest but it didn't work
I put the walking code and the hittest on the player symbol and it worked, but immediately when i put the hittest code on the symbol at his feet inside the player symbol the code stop working.The walls must contain the solid and graphic part inside the same symbol because some of them will move

Right now I deconstruct the whole thing, any idea will work, i'm just starting pretty much from zero

I have had this problem for a long time and have not been able to fix it. I am using ActionScript 1, although if you can help me using AS2 I should be able to change it. I have a static movie clip with no code referring to it called "ship". Its center point is 275, 324.9. I have a series of planets coming down from the top of the screen and I need to check whether you "died" or not. The planets movie clips are contained inside blank movie clips that are there so thre registration point does not change. I was using the code

I am trying to embed the goto next frame and stop code snippet into a symbol. Its basically a box that a user can click that will allow them to go to the next frame. The instanced symbol will be resized from frame to frame etc. I ve been told that if I embed the code within a movieclip within the symbol it should work, however I am severely frustrated as nothing is happening.

Create a symbol (I ve tried Graphic and MovieClip), name it A. Within that symbol I put in an instance of a Movie clip named B, which is just a square.Back to the top symbol A, in the timeline I add the code snippet go to next frame and stop.I have 5 frames in the main timeline which all have stop actions if that makes any difference?

I have 10 different map symbols on the stage. I have 1 class called ContinentView which is linked as the base class to each of these 10 map symbols. All I want to do is duplicate the same map symbol and miniaturize it when the map symbol is clicked upon. Thus, 2 symbols will be on stage prior to clicking, 1 large and 1 small. The 10 different map symbols have names such as zone1, zone2, zone3...etc. all the way up to 10. I know that I can do var mini:MovieClip = new zone1() as MovieClip; but thats ONLY if I click on the 1st map symbol and vice versa. This means I would have to do an if tree or several cases in a switch statement to check the id or name of the clicked symbol (e.currentTarget.name or something)...I want to avoid that and be dynamic.

I'm in a bit of a situation here, and was wondering if someone could offer me some assistance.

I have a symbol with another symbol embedded inside it (there's nothing I can do about it, I know). For the symbol inside the symbol (lets call it symbol 2), I have a few buttons that return a value when pressed. I have an if statement that triggers if the values are equal to a certain amount. The if statement is supposed to goto the next scene.

The if statement and all the values work correctly, but for some reason, it will not move to the next scene. I've tried both nextScene(); and gotoAndPlay("scene",1); to no luck. I have even tried putting _root. to the front of the code, and it doesn't work.

How can I use arrays and some how display my objects accordingly based on my code below?What I have here are three buttons that when clicked a new clip is added to the stage with a predefined position which means that when button1 is clicked the MovieClip will be added at the very top and when button2 is clicked the MovieClip will be added at second and when button3 is clicked the clip will be added at the very bottom, but what I would like to do is to be able to dynamically position these objects based on how many clips exist, in other words if button3 is clicked first, I want the clip to be positioned at the very top and if later button1 is clicked the clip is positioned Accordantly (at second place).

I know this may be simple, in fact I could probably use a few IF statements but I know the code would look ugly (yes, even more) and I may have add more buttons later. What I would be awesome is to some-how use arrays or something that makes more sense to hold the MovieClips and then display them accordingly.

I am using CS4 and ActionScript 2.0.I am trying to create a photo gallery.I have created 4 different movie clip buttons that reside on the content layer.Each button consists of one image.When the movie clip button is pressed, I want the full size image to appear on the stage next to the buttons.You can see the buttons in the image below.I am trying to create an empty movie clip holder that would reside on the main timeline while the buttons reside on the content layer.I need to get the images to load into the empty movie clip and then unload when the next button is selected?I can't seem to get the buttons to "talk" to the empty movie clip holder.I did manage to create code for an empty movie clip holder within each button, but then I end up with all four images on top of each other.

I'm currently using RobotLegs with the Presentation Model pattern to develop a Flex 4 project. I understand that all business logic related to a View resides in the Presentation Model associated with that view, however, I am confused when it comes to View specific logic.For example, I have an indicator that needs to be positioned relatively to list items depending on which list item is selected. Is it acceptable in the Presentation pattern to put the logic that will position the indicator in the View and simply have that logic run in reaction to a selectedIndex property changing in the presentation model?The reason I am considering this is that since the Presentation Model does not have a reference to the view it is difficult to come up with an ideal solution for manipulating view components.

Flash :: Symbol's Height (in Code) Seem Different Than Its Height (in Design)

I have a bit of graphical content inside a symbol that I've created in Flash CS5. Let's call it FunGraphics_Art, it's set to export, and it extends MovieClip.When I edit the symbol in Flash and I hit control-A, the properties panel tells me that all of the content has a height of 72 pixels, positioned at 0,0.The content consists of a few (classic) textfields, and a couple of Checkbox components and a few bits of vector art.All the content is on a single frame, no layers.So far, so good. I export my art as a .svc and am able to use it all in code just fine. However I then add the following bit of code to my .as file..[code]Somehow, there's something strange going on that's causing Flash to think my exported symbol is about 75 pixels higher than it actually is. I've looked around for invisible "blank" textfields, but haven't found anything yet.

CS4: "Document Class" Cannot Reside In SWC?

I have a class called "my.customclass.Dog" which lives in an SWC file. I started a new FLA file, and go to "publish settings" -> AS 3. Under the "libraries tab" I point to my SWC file which contains the "my.customclass.Dog" class. I then set my Document Class equal to "my.customclass.Dog" and I also tried "Dog". In BOTH cases I get "A definition of for the document class cannot be found in the classpath".....

The "Dog" class does exist in my SWC, because in the first frame of my FLA I can successfully import it and construct a new instance of it. Is my need of specifing a class that resides in an SWC as the "Document Class" not possible?

I have a project in Flash Professional CS5 and ActionScript 3.

I have a movieclip symbol (referred herein as "background" with scripts on various keyframes inside of that symbol. I need to hide or show another symbol (referred herein as "object") sharing a stage with "background".

To put it another way, I need "object" to be hidden when "background" reaches a certain internal keyframe. However, as "object" and "background" are both children of the same stage, how do I do this?

I'm, trying to create a duplicate symbol and then be able to drag the symbol around the screen.I have an image - once converted to a button and on the stage as paddock_btn. The other converted to paddock_mc in the library, with a linkage identifier of "paddock".I want to be able to click the button, and create a duplicate, which can be dragged and placed on the screen.Unfortunately, I don't get any output errors here.

So i've done SOME work with flash and AS3, right now i'm working on a website for my boss, he bought some template online which has stuff laid out and animated and everything already, now I just have to integrate our content.My issue is this, I've got 2 symbols on the screen, one of which contains alot of buttons that list our services as company, the second symbol contains the content (or descriptions) of those services, which on are separate keyframes.What I'm trying to accomplish is that when you hit the button in "symbol A", it affects the "symbol B" and goes to the corresponding keyframe.For example when I click "button 2" in "symbol A", "symbol B" goes to keyframe 2.Now if they were in the same symbol it would be something like

Library symbol "Card" is linked to class "Card" which extends "MovieClip". Library symbol "Card" contains a card background image.Library symbol "Ace" is linked to class "Ace", which extends class "Card". Library symbol "Ace" contains a TextField with a big letter "A".So we have Ace extends Card which extends MovieClip. Ace therefore extends MovieClip, but does not DIRECTLY extend MovieClip.When I drop an instance of Ace on the stage and compile the clip, all that shows up is the big letter A. However, I expected the background image from Card to be included, since Ace extends Card, and the Card symbol contains the background.It seems like Flash ignores symbol content unless it belongs to the top-level class being instantiated.I think it's LAME that one symbol can't extend another. The IDE could easily draw Card as a non-editable background while I'm editing Ace which extends it, and it should instantiate Card's content and then Ace's content when an Ace is instantiated.
