ActionScript 1/2 :: Defining Actions For Buttons Inside A For Loop?
Jan 8, 2011
I got a set of buttons and a text field where they load the content.I'm trying to not make one zillion functions and keep the code neat so i guessed i would try set the buttons' actions within the loop too. I firstly had some problems getting the i counter inside the onRelease function (actually I don't think i ever got how to do it). But I tried this and worked:
stop();var comprarXML = new XML();comprarXML.ignoreWhite = true;comprarXML.load('flash/comprar.xml');comprarXML.onLoad = checkLoading; function checkLoading(success) { rootNode = comprarXML.firstChild; ButtonReleaseAndContent ();} function ButtonReleaseAndContent (){ for (i=0;i<12;i++){ // my buttons are not generated dynamicly, that why the count. btTemp =
[code]....
At the line where I set the text, I had a though " I may have to refer from within the button mc, since the generated code goes inside it!". So i tried the this.temp , guessing that this would be equal to the button level. A few seconds later i noticed my referencing for the text field wasn't coming from within the button, but from the root.
I have is a movie with a button in it called button.i've duplicated the movie (manually) several times on the stage.the movies have been given instance names of movie1, movie2 etc.i've then used actionscript to assign actions to the buttons.i have the following code:
i'm pulling my hair out over this one. I have is a movie with a button in it called button. i've duplicated the movie (manually) several times on the stage. the movies have been given instance names of movie1, movie2 etc. i've then used actionscript to assign actions to the buttons. i have the following code:
I'm trying to write onPress for 4 buttons inside a for loop. This lines traces undefined: Code: trace(_root.TeachMethodArr1[count]) // undefined. This is because count is no more starting from 0 when I click the buttons.
Code: var TeachMethodArr1:Array=new Array() var TeachMethodArr2:Array=new Array() TeachMethodArr1 = ["a","b","c","b","e"] TeachMethodArr2 = ["a","b","c","b","e"] for(var count:Number=0; [Code] .....
I have 27 buttons on a menu generated by a for loop. When the button is clicked it moves the menu +380 pixels. Now to shorten my code I moved the buttons inside the menu movieclip. Intance name: "buildMenu"
This means I only have to move the menu rather than the menu plus each individual button.
The code below works fine but I don't want to have to write this 27 times as each button will be calling much more than just "buildMenu._x += 380;"
var cColor1:Color = new Color(mcBut1.mcFill); var cColor2:Color = new Color(mcBut2.mcFill); var cColor3:Color = new Color(mcBut3.mcFill); var cColor4:Color = new Color(mcBut4.mcFill); var cColor5:Color = new Color(mcBut5.mcFill);
What I'd like to do is write a loop to handle all that code in less code. So, how do I define variables using variables?
Something like:
for (var i:Number = 1; i < 6, i++) { var cColor+i = new Color(eval("mcBut"+i).mcFill); }
I need to make the buttons that are associated with this code, toggle, so once you press them they become greyed out. So I was thinking of after you press a button, the alpha is reduced to 40%. Can someone help me place that piece of code into this monster? -I know it should go into the presto function of my script. Which works fine, but then it stays at 40%alpha after the user click on a different button. I need it to toggle off once someone clicks on the next button. [code]
I'm trying to assign actions to various buttons for a website I am building, however I would also like to play a little movie first each time before linking to their individual different frames. The movie is the same for each button but then, obviously each button ultimately needs to link to a different frame. I'm guessing a nifty mix of gotoandPlay and variables are the answer but I'm getting myself in knots.
The structure of the site is as follows.On the main stage I currently have 4 frames. Each frame contains a different "page" of the website. The "home" frame has the navigation bar (including a sub-menu movie which has a number of buttons nested inside it which I think is going to be tricky). At the end of the "home" movie, there is a little fade animation which is labeled/ red flagged on the timeline - and it's this little animation I would like to have playing when a button is clicked on before linking to another frame.
At the moment the best I can manage is that when the button is clicked it goes back to the beginning of it's movie (a problem with the target paths perhaps?) as opposed to a label within the parent movie.I also think where I'm getting confused is exactly where I am supposed to define all the various variables and pieces of actionscript. The little snippits of code I have are as follows: Within the button I am trying to link, so far I have:
The "artwork" tag is the frame specific to that button (this is one of the sub-buttons that is nested within a submenu movie).Then in the movie for the webpage I have the following in the last frame of the mini animation that I want to play before the button links to the artwork frame:
Im planning to make a magazine in Flash, and I would have to load several pages of it in order. But Id like to put the buttons forward and previous on the main movie and make then load each page in a container.Is there a way to set variables for each page so the main movie "knows" what movie is loaded at the moment and what page it has to load next.
This function all works correctly, except where i am assigning an action to the onRelease event of a given button. Every button is assigned to the same value (appears to be the first value pulled from the array).
I am new to FLASH and have created a rotating banner for our website with 5 roatating images with 5 invisble buttons linking to 5 landing pages. And it works the first loop through. However when it gets to action 5 for my last image, that link continues for all the buttons is subsequent loops.What do I need to add to my code to get the actions to loop like the timeline is looping? Code used for the links. This is the link that continues after the first run of the banner:
var url5:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.facebook.com/MoDOT.KansasCity");, onStageClick5); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK[code]....
What i want to do is assign actions to each individual movieclip using a for loop.. let me explain Say i have 5 MovieClips on the stage... With instance names clip1, clip2, clip3.... Now what i want to do is assign a OnRollOver and OnRelease to each 1 So individual code for each would be something like this.
how I can make a certain code that works on the time line, work when placed inside of a MC? I know my question is too vague but my code is huge and if I post it it's going to be more difficult than if I can just get the logic and change the code my self.
Now, this mc is on the Main timeline and has an istance name "home_btn". I have a sliding menu type navagation going on and have some code for the "home_btn" on the main timeline:
WHen I try to use the code on the maintime line and the code on the button inside the mc--it ofcourse doesn't work. How can I reference the rollover/out actions on the inside of the mc from the main timeline?
I have done this same thing in ActionScript 3, but am not familiar with ActionScript 2, which I am forced to use for this project. I am loading products into a SWF via XML and attempting to add a click event to each dynamically-created movieclip. Simply tracing the text from a node in XML will do for now. I'd like to assign a property called "desc" or "description" to each movieclip and have it trace that property's value when clicked. Here is the relevant portion of my code as it stands:
ActionScript Code: var iXML:XML = new XML(); iXML.ignoreWhite = true;
I am trying to create a gallery where each thumb is housed inside of it's own movie clip that will have more data, but it keeps failing because it won't let me refer to the newly created instance of the movie clip. Below is what I am trying to do.
var xml:XML; var xmlReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("xml.xml"); var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();

It dies every time on that last line. How do I refer to that vidThumbn instance so I can add the imageLoader? I don't know what I'm missing. It feels like it should work.
When creating a website in Flash, I have made the buttons but I am unable to add an action to the buttons. A message appears to say 'current selection cannot have actions applied to it'. I have followed the tutorial to the letter without any success - what am i missing?
How do I make the actions contained in a movieclip work on the main timeline? For example. In the movieclip, I have some buttons and I have an "Actions" layer there which contains all the functions of the buttons, listeners and such.
I placed this movieclip on Frame 1 of the main timeline.
When I run the program, I'm able to hover my mouse over the buttons and it changes to a "finger" cursor as if they can be clicked on, however, when I click the buttons, nothing happens. It's as if it's not recognizing the Mouse Click event listeners I put on the buttons in the "Actions" layer of the movieclip.
I made some animated buttons, and now I'm trying to assign script to them to link them to their pages, on the script box it says I cannot assign script to them? Is it because they're animated or am I going wrong somewhere else? It's in Flash CS3, I can upload any files as a link if I've not explained myself well enough
I am trying to add actions to my buttons i want the user to be sent to another page when the button is clicked. The action i have attached to the button is
I have rollOver, rollOut, and Release actions on several buttons. I want to be able to keep the same buttons but attach different actions depending on what section of the site the user is in. I have something like:
I've created a flv movie, and I have a button showing that I want to vanish when I press the play button on the flvplayback controller.I searched the web and came up with this:
Code: // Play Button code function btnPlayClickHandler(event:MouseEvent){
I have lot of buttons (50) is possible to call this buttons in other way or must i use this actions? This is example on 1. frame for 3 buttons. Of course in the future ara buttons different actions
Code: // action for 1. button _root.mainMap.map.pan.jewish_point_01.onRollOver = function () { trace ("jewish_point_01 works!"); mainMap.map.pan.description_01._visible = true; }; _root.mainMap.map.pan.jewish_point_01.onRollOut = function () { [Code] .....
I've done a website with different pages using the Loader component. On one page I have a movieclip that has different images (like a slideshow) that fade between each other. I'm trying to add an action to make the movieclip pause for a few seconds between each fade. So I've added this action between each fade (in a layer, above the graphics layers, that only holds actionscript):
