I want to call a html page through flash passing a variable, and receive this variable by javascript in the html. I created the following code: Flash:getURL ("service.html?option=1","_self","GET"); Html:<script>var option = location.href.split("=") if (option[1]=="1"){...}</script> The html is correct (I think...), however the variable does not appear on the URL. The URL is shown as "service.html".
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to pass the contents of variable playnoyes to the long line of code below to decide whether or not to autoplay the flash movie, but doing it as I have below, the resultant line of code has the variable in quotes and therefore the code doesn't execute it as expected. My question is, how can I pass the variable so that the resulting line of code doesn't have the quotes around the variable value.

in Document Class action script file I have the following variable

And then in BallPointRight action script file which is linked with BallPointRight movie clip I have the following code

So the line xDir = -1; doesn't change variable located in Document Class action script file even if if sentence is true... Is it maybe because it's number?
Flash CS3, AS 2.0 so I have an XML file containing the number 72, and this script:

The problem is, the variable doesn't carry into my second bit of code. I can add a button and use trace to display the correct variable in the output box, so I know it's getting into Flash. The problem is that it's not applying itself to the second piece of script. Triple checked that the code with by putting in the number manually and using a normal variable, only when I use the XML file as a variable does it refuse to work. I'm very new to Flash so sorry if I've left any important information out, but can anybody shed some light on this?

My problem is that I am using a variable to identify an element section of the many galleries I have under the tag "galleryType" and nothing is returning for me to display. Am I searching for my galleryType the right way in my code or do I need to loop through my galleryTypes on my XML.

I created a simple form where someone enters their email address to be listed on a mailing list at constantcontact.com. For some reason, the content of the input text field where a user enters their email address isn't being passed on. I know the instance name of the field is correct because I created a duplicate of the form but instead of an input field I just created a variable with my email address and it worked. Below is the code for the form that doesn't work:

When I print the php variable on my php page it outputs the field, but when I try to send it to flash it doesn't output anything.Here is my php script that tries to send a mysql field to flash and there nothing is shown. I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

It's an interactive quiz, so the idea is that flash will change a variable, theAnswer, to a different letter depending on which question it is. The answer to question 1 is B, question 2 is D, etc. Either the cue point event listener isn't working, or else it is working and Flash isn't declaring the variables. 1120: Access of undefined property theAnswer. I literally can't find a single problem with my code. I have an almost identical Event Listener further down which works.

why my i variable in the script below doesn't carry through to the "mySubMenus[i].alphaTo (100,1);" line. When I trace, it returns a value of 3, but it's working for myButtons[i]. There must be a way to pass that [i] value someplace else,BTW, this is a variation of one of the mc_tween samples.

I have a test field that I've created dynamically. If I add text to it by writing: myField.text = "some text" the text appears, but if I add text using a variable I don't see anything. If I trace the text field's text trace("text = " myField.text) I get the right value.
View 6 RepliesI decided to try to use setInterval for myanimation, which is just a mouse trail.However, I'm trying to get teh mouse trail to be a dynamic mask.In my previous swf this was achieved by using a holder mc with the animation inside and then using this as the mask. But this time I just canpt seem to hit on the right way to get it to work. The code I am using for the mouse trail is:

f you know PHP...then you know that you can create a string variable...and then use the value of that variable to declare another variable. like this:

I want to declare a variable on the main timeline that can be called from anywhere in my movie. So, _global var should be the right approach. I want to declare a movie clip 'MC1' "open", or "closed" so that when it is revisited, my flash file knows the user has been there before and performs a different task from the one it does when 'MC1' was first encountered. So, i need a 'if' statement to run from the variable, when the playhead encounters the movieClip.

I have 2 movie clips, one being loaded into a container MC via "loadMovie();"In the main movie there is a variable with no value, in the external movie there are 5 frames, each with a value to update the variable in the main movie.

As we know whent here is no such variable of null value assignment to a variable or instance flash throws this kind of Error.In one of my Application i need to get more flashVariables, They may or maynot come as FLASHVARS. But when i miss any variable flash thows this error as an alert box. is there any simple solution to avoid this kind of issue

I would like to store a hex colorPicker value in a variable and then cast the value of the var backout to a textInput. The textInput is just to see witch hexcolor i have choosen.
thus meaning seeing 0x000000 in the textInput.
what i've done now is pretty simple i have bound the flex colorPicker directly to my textInput. but i want to store the value from the colorPicker in a var first and than spit it backout to the textInput to see the value that i have picked.
When i pick a color value that begins with the number 0 it drops the 0's at the beginning of the number and only spits out the numbers greater than 0. (000033 becomes 33, FF0000 stays FF0000). I want to catch the whole value or write some kind a function to figure out how many 0's got dropped and concatenate it together with 0x. Store that all into a var and bind it to the flex TextInput.

So within the rotateClockwise and rotateAntiClockwise functions i need to be able to recognise which is the currently active loader and have that number instead of the X - so if it is image1_loader - it needs to be image1_content, if 4 - image4_content... I had tried to do it as this but it doesn't like it being a string:

how you would target a function's local variable through a concatenated variable string.For example:

I'd expect the trace to be "Hello World" but rather is given "undefined". So if variables created outside functions are created on the main timeline, where are local function variables created and how would you access them?
