ActionScript 1/2 :: Timeline Where The Clip Does Not Exist?

after some time debugging I found you that a script on a clip in my project is executed even then when it is not on stage. I just jump to a fame later in the timeline where the clip does not exist. But the load and unload event is executed.

I'm doing a project using ActionScript 2 where I'm loading in text from an XML file to dynamic text boxes. I'm loading everything in on the first frame, but there are boxes that do not exist in the timeline until frame 5 or so. Is there anyway I can access those to set their text property from the first frame

In my application I have a class Map, which is an as file that extends MovieClip. Map is used by the document class Core. I have multiple .fla files whose document classes all extend Map, and in each .fla, in the library, there's clip map_1, map_2, map_3, etc. Now I load one of these maps into Core.
Map has a method addFirst():
public function addFirst(){
stg.addChild(new map_1())
}
but this generates the error "Variable Map_1 is not defined" when I use it in Core, I guess it's because in Map itself map_1 is not defined, but it is in every children.

I have a file comprised of 1 scene and two movie clips. The clips are instanced into the Main Timeline and occupy Frames 1 and 2 respectively.MovieClip1 is an animation that has navigation buttons that appear at the end of the clip. I'm trying to get mouse click navigation to make Frame 2 on the Main Timeline active.
Here is what I'm trying but it is not working:

this takes the animation to Frame 2 of the Movie Clip Timeline not Frame 2 the Main Timeline.

I am targeting a a movie clip. The problem is that all the syntax I have found for targetting clips looks like this: _root.sample_mc.sample2.mc. etc. The problem is, my target clip is in an swf that I've loaded into a container clip from my main timeline. So, essentially, I have a home.swf that loads menu.swf into a container called 'location'. In menu.swf, I have an MC called center, which contains the MC I am targetting called 'target'.

I've got a main timeline .swf file called "blank.swf" which contains nothing but two blank movie clips one called called "pproduct", the other called "ppalette". In the script frame of this main timeline I use the simple "Loader = new Loader();" method to load a URL of an .swf file into the "ppalette" movie clip. The "ppalette" movie clip contains several color chip buttons, each of which use the same Loader method above to load an external .swf into a clip. Here's what I want to do: let those color chip buttons, when the "blank.swf" file loads, be used to load an .swf movie into the "pproduct" clip on the main timeline. I'm wanting to be able to swap depths with various movie clips which will take out the movie which has the palette, but I want whatever that palette has loaded in the original "pproduct" clip to stay there.

Is there Actionscript 2 that can be put in a preloader and play only the first movie clip on the root timeline instead of all of the root's timeline (which happens using getBytesLoaded or movieclip._framesLoaded() )? I want the preloader to just load the first movie clip and let the user
read this screen while the rest of the root timeline continues to download.

I'm currently creating a slideshow effect when you have a series of MC's from left to right and when you rollover one of the movie clip's, it expands 150%. That i got down. However, I want it where when this occurs, the clip appears in front of all the other clips in the sequence and right now only a portion of it does. The other portions appears behind one of the MC's to the right. How can I alleviate this using AS3 code?

On my main timeline I have two movie clips sitting side by side in frame1. They are called content_mc and content_mc2. Those are their respective names in the library and as instances. Now, I have a button in content_mc in which I am looking for the following behavior. When I click it, I want the timeline inside
content_mc2 to jump to frame2. MovieClip(parent).gotoAndStop(2); This code would be just dandy if I wanted to go to frame 2 of the main timeline, but I cannot find, for the life of me, how to go up one level (parent) and then specify down a new level (content_mc2). In other words, where do I put "content_mc2" in this syntax?

I'm designing an interface which lets the user control the timeline of a movie clip, by dragging a slider up or down with the mouse. And I can now drag the slider around, an archivement for which I am way proud. But I have some problems:
1) When the user drag the curser away from the slider movie clip and let go of the mouse buttom, the MOUSE_UP is not detected. I need a way to detect a MOUSE_UP in general.
2) The current frame of mcTheAnimation should always be locked to the vertical position of the slider. How do I access the timeline of that movie clip?[URL]..

I've created a frame by frame in the first layer of the timeline and in the second layer (above the first) another one with a keyframe in wich I've inserted another movieclip with some alpha tween (a kind of slideshow).

The problem is that when i test/publish the project, the frame by frame layer playes but the slideshow does not play at all, unless i extend in the main timeline with the F6 shortcut. If anyone has an ideea what is wrong please help me. Ty.

I'm trying to play the timeline forward or backwards by either pressing and dragging left or pressing and dragging right. I can't figure this out.
I have been using instances of buttons to do this but I don't want to use buttons I just want to be able to press anywhere on the screen and weather I drag left or right the movie plays, if I stop pressing the movie stops playing on its current frame.

I've loaded a clip (with a stop() and a trace() on the first frame) in my main swf but somehow when it's loaded and added on the stage it neither stops nor do the trace command, here's my code:

I have a move clip with several buttons inside; their rollover seems fine.i am trying to get the buttons in the clip to address/go to the main movie timeline. Button names within the clip: c_btn, d_btn, etc. These are the symbols names; they have not been given unique instance names within the clip. The clip name is nav_all and its instance on the timeline is navall.mc.

I've created a movie clip symbol with it's own animation on its timeline. I've placed this symbol onto the first frame of the main timeline but when I test it, it doesn't play. There's no stop actions or anything on either timelines so I'm not sure why this is happening. I thought that the animation in a movie clip symbol will automatically play (i.e. if you test in a browser) once it's on the main timeline - is this right? Or am I doing something wrong. Maybe I need to tell it to play?

How would one on a specific frame inside a movie clip cause the main timeline to go to a certain frame label?
I know how to use gotoandstop(), but i can't seem to find a working, correct syntax variable that accesses the main timeline and not the movie clip's timeline.

I'm in the process of designing this site as a portfolio for my art and am in the process of creating and laying out the galleries. My idea was to create movie clip animated buttons that would react to the roll over stuff. I got that part to work the way I wanted it. But now, I can't seem to figure out how to put a "Gotoandplay" type of code on the buttons so that the timeline would jump to the appropriate frame and play. (I put an "on(release) gotoandplay" on it the way I would put it on a button but it never responds. I have a couple of buttons that work fine with a "geturl". so I thought a "gotoandplay" would work fine. If this can be figured out in a way that I can easily use it for all buttons with just the frame number needing alteration, that would be best. After you click the splashpage door jpg, there will be a piece of paper on the floor. That is a button which should trigger the animation that starts at frame 114. When clicked, the page lifts up and spread open to two pages. But it never reacts

I'm trying to control the root timeline from a movie clip. On the last frame of the movie clip, I have:
MovieClip(root).gotoAndPlay (10);
which successfully brings me back to frame 10 on the main timeline. However, from here, none of the ActionScript that is on Frame 1 seems to work... the rollovers aren't working, except on those embedded in a separate movie clip.

In Flash CS3 using Action Script 3, how can I tell the main timeline to gotoAndStop(); a certain frame from within a movie clip.
I have a menu (which is a movie clip) with various buttons. Each button corresponds to a certain frame in the main movie. So if a user click on Button1, it should gotoAndStop(1); and Button2 should gotoAndStop(2); and so on.
In Action Script 2, I could use _root.gotoAndPlay(2); from what I understand, but that does not work in Action Script 3.

it says that I have an error:
Symbol 'ribbon_menu', Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 20 1120: Access of undefined property _root.
but_shows is located in a movie clip called Ribbon_menu that is trying to go to and play x fram in a movieclip called mainContainer.
Both Ribbon_menu and mainContainer are located on the root timeline.
I wonder since the button scripting is located in Ribbon_menu and not the main timeline is the _root command confusing itself with the root of the stage, or the stage of the ribbon_menu movieclip!
