Working on a simple dog and pony show that needs to fake some password entry. I'm in Flash CS3 using AS2.0.
I have an Input Text field named "txt_pinnums" and its line type is set to Password. It has a variable of "pinpassword".
All I want to do when "btn_ok" is pressed is check that the numbers entered on the keypad that are now in the input text field equal "1234". It seems though that the value of that field is a bunch of HTML, not simple characters. Here is what I have:
I'm sure my AS is not that good, but as I said this is just a simple show and tell demo that will be thrown away. How can I test that the input text equals 1234? If I do a trace(pinpassword) I get a bunch of HTML in addition to the characters entered.
Also, one syntactical question. I tried this:

But that doesn't work... that type of thing works in JS though. Curious as to why it doesn't work.
Just wondering where I find a list of what can be error checked in input text fields?I'm looking for things like...- checking that letters and not numbers are entered- checking that an entered number is in a certain range
I have four text input boxes, and I need to be able to script it so that when the "Done" button is pushed each of the boxes are checked for the right input. I've tried two different methods, neither of which work or the answer is automatically correct.

I'm making a form in flash for an application I'm building. In the Email text input, I want to check that the user has entered a real email address. Obviously as long as its text@text.text then I'm happy. How do I check what the have entered a valid format?
how do i check the answer that enter by user.... the marks is given by checking whether they user key in the keywords or not... i m thinking of using string method...but i not able to do it...
I do math applications for the web. Often I have to check if a user input is correct. For example: the right answer is 3x+5. Is the user input that.I do this by checking character by character. I don't think that it is the best way, especially since the user may have written 5+3x, which is right, too, although it is preferred to write the other way around.I sometimes have to check more complicated expressions, like -3x^2+7x-15 or -2 sin (4x^2).Right now I'm doing an equation solving exercise. I'm working on a game that involves some timed animations and I need to fire a kind of 'failed' event.Basically I'm moving a clip from one point to another on the stage, the user has to input a correct key combination before the endpoint. I'm developing a diet checker that users enter their recipe into an input field and compares it to an external text file with a list variables of ingredients and then underlines or highlights certain ingredients that would not be good to eat.
I need to check this input box for certain words and see if there are specific words before or after those words.The word "egg" WOULD BE highlighted/underlined as a bad ingredient but "egg white" would NOT have the "egg" part highlighted The word "fried chicken" WOULD BE highlighted/underlined but "baked chicken" or "broiled chicken" would NOT be highlighted The external variable text file lists the words I'm searching for and the words to replace them with but, the code I have cannot yet determine if the word "white" is after the word "egg" and then not have the "egg" part of the phrase underlined.
I'm creating a form in Flash MX and I need to created a script that check if the two passwrod text intup field are the same or not, if they are the same it will go to one frame and is they don't match it will go to a diferent frame. I need to created another script that will check if the text input field for the email has the symbol @ and .com, if this is true or false it will go to one frame or another.
The thing I want is like I will have a input text field for someone to type his email address, but after he presses the send button I want it to check that input field and see if there is the "@" and the "." symbol available in the field or no.

The input_1 box has a 13 character limit. My initial font size is 200, i want to scale down so when the user types 10 letters they fit the box and they don't go out of screen. I want to use one line, so wrap or multiline is not possible.

I'm trying to extend the text input that comes in flex to support an icon, just like mac os x search text input has a grey circle aligned to the right, the text input has a addChild method, but it didn't work for me.
the last of many problems, is that at the very end of the test, you're shown your score, and you have the option to type your name in a text box and click "save". Doing so will apply you score data (time elapsed, date, correct answers and percentage) along with the name you typed in, and output in a form, that you can save or print off, or whatever. The problem is, the input text box will not let you type in it. If you mouse over it, the mouse stays a pointer, you don't get the text tool. If you click on it, the cursor appears for a split second after you release the mouse button, but you cannot type anything in it.This is the actionscript for the output form:

I was wondering if it was possible to check if a dynamic text box has overflowing text? So if there is too much text to fit in the constraints of the text box the scroll bar component will become visible?

i created an input text box that puts the users input into a global variable, but when i test it it gives me not only what i have typed in but all the html formatting for the font that my input text box has on it.I only want the text that i have typed in to go into the variable but the wackload of html is going in there too. ive tried a few different things, rewriting my code, recreating the text box, changing settings, dont know what im missing.

i have an one input text box, first i type text into it and press space bar at this it will become empty and ready to accept next input from starting position, i make the text box empty by

but the cursor not set to initial position in text box it consider "" as "space" and cursor will display after one space only, i need that cursor again move to starting position..
Using AS3 to create a basic number guessing game but for some reason the input text field won't accept text input. I can't figure out which piece of code is causing the problem and it's driving me nuts considering it's from a tutorial.
This code corresponds to a quiz question where the correct answer is either blue or green. I get the #1009 error if I input "blue". The answer "green" seems to work ok. What's wrong with my code? Is there a better way to make is so more than one answer works? Something like "blue" or "green" or "otheranswer", etc..?

I need the ability to click the Bold button and it bolds or unbolds at the cursor so if I hit the bold button what I type from that point on will be bold until I hit the button again and then it goes back to regular. I am able to change it to bold or unbold by selecting the text and clicking the button but I also need to do it without selecting.

I want is to take a the text from and input text box and when you press a submit button have it post to a php page. All was going well... but then I changed my code from value1 = "password" to value1 = password.text; and the php instead of coming back with the user's password, comes back undefined. WHY WHY WHy, does it except it when I say value1 = "password" and not with the value1 = password.text; (and 'password' is the instance name of the input text... (not using flash vars)
