I'm loading bitmaps dynamically using AS3 and I'd like to fit/tile them within a movieclip. (like a texture but in 2D)
However, my movieclip is not rectangular and everything I tried resulted in the texture getting out of the boundaries of my movieclip and being displayed as a big rectangle.
I want to load a range of images (20-30) each contained in a movie clip, and position them on the stage in a grid (table) format using actionscript. These images will be loaded from an XML file to make updating them a simple task in the future.
I have followed a tutorial to produce a "carousel" and this allowed me to have as many images as I wished loaded by the actionscript. I am sure that it is possible to have the items arranged however one would like provided you code the script correctly, and this is my problem. I cannot work out the correct code to get the movie clips into the desired arrangement.

I am wokring on a movie and I want to tile a movieclip instead of a bitmap in AS3. I have figured out masking and the bitmap tiling in AS3, but am still encountering trouble finding a good solution for simply tiling an MC symbol across a set width and height in AS3.

I am trying to tile a 5x5 bitmap 160 times in height which will come to 800 and 120 in width which is 600.Here is the code that doesn't work:

The subject pretty much sums it up; I have a bunch of movieclips on the stage, that are already filled with a bitmap pattern in the IDE. Now I need to fill them with another pattern once they are clicked, and I can�t seem to figure out how to do it.This is the closest yet, but i just get a recangle with the new pattern behind my selected mc. I realize that the rectangle comes from the drawRect method (duh) but I cant seem to find something the will allow me to fill the entire movieclip with the new pattern.in District.as

I have a PNG imported into my library and exported for use in Action script. On the stage, I have a swatchFill movie clip.Currently I have code that will transform the fill to a solid color, however I'm getting into metallic swatches and the colorTransform function will no longer work.[code]
View 10 RepliesI'm using the following code to load a .jpg into a movie clip container the problem is I need the container to be a specific size I tried loader.content.width = 50; and loader.content.height = 50; the height part works but the width doesn't work my image just expands beyond the stage width.How do i set the size of the movie clip container?I don't care if the image gets distorted i have a resize script for the images before they are loaded into flash.[code]
View 1 Repliesi found an example online where bombs falling from the sky remove circles from a grass field, and a moving character can interact with the newly made circles(go into them). i dissected the code to the point where the only thing that happens now is that you click on the field and remove a circle:

I am having a problem loading a bitmap/graphic into the place of a movie clip using AS 2.0 on Flash CS3.You see, I am uploading an image into a library, for example, Bitmap1.jpg, and I upload another image to turn into a movie clip, for example, Bitmap2.jpg turns into Symbol 1.I place Symbol 1 onto the screen and I've been trying code after code and I'm not sure how to load Bitmap1.jpg in the place of Symbol 1 using the 'if statement'. I've tried the 'load' functions, but since I've just bought CS3 and I don't have Flash 8, a lot of the functions have changed.Here's an example of my code:

Cut to the chase, I'm trying to load "Bitmap1.jpg" or my library name (Bitmap) into the place of Symbol 1 (my MovieClip) when Junior is equal to Stranger, using AS 2.0 on Flash CS3. This code doesn't work on CS3.
I have a movie clip with a bunch of importaed bitmaps and simple vector drawings. Does anybody know if there is a way to grab this whole mc, make a bitmap copy of it and place this copy somewhere else on the stage?

View 3 Replieshow to imitate a reflection of a movie clip in a "mirror." I don't know if I should have the initial movie clip on custom cursor or have it set to drag... but either way I don't know how to make the second clip the "reflection follow along. Obviously it would need to follow at a slightly offset pattern so that you would be able to see both clips (or majority of them) at the same time. It's for a school project that is due at 9am tomorrow so time is of the essence!!
View 4 RepliesI found something when I create bitmap data cache for each frame of a movie clip:I got a movie clip, instead of presenting it immediatly on stage, I created a bitmap data array to store each frame of it, so I'm doing:

if i present the original body moive clip, everything is ok, but when I use cache, it begins to tremble, this is because the getBounds() method of movieclip returns different rectangle when mc is cached and mc is presented on stage. I tried trace out every getBounds() when caching and when Event.FRAME_CONSTRUCTED fire, they're different, making my cache crash!
I assum MovieClip class do not refresh until it's present to stage or some time in on frame, how can I get the real boundary of it if I need to cache it?
I've written a class that iterates through all the frames of a movie clip and draws each one to a different bitmap. When I'm done, I should be able to iterate through the bitmaps and play them like a flipbook animation.If I draw all the clips to the same size bitmapdata, then everything looks great. But this is wasteful because now a lot of the bitmapdata's are bigger than they need to be (takes up more memory), and also causes problems because the hit tests don't look right.
So next I try to crop all the bitmapdata to be the smallest possible sizes. However, when I do this, there are subtle differences in the way the images look - the edges might look slightly darker in one frame than in another. When I line up all the images and play them back to back, it no longer looks the same way it originally did.I have no idea why the images look different, and have no idea how to work around this problem, I have tried many different approaches. I have tried using BitmapData.draw(), BitmapData:copyPixels(), and manually using BitmapData:SetPixel(), and all end up with the same result
I've a movie clip of a circlular i've imported as a png then changed to a movie clip. i have a hit test to check if something is in contact with the circular object. The hit test works but it works on the square bounding box around the object. do i need to create a hit area to have it work only on the circular object.
View 1 RepliesI have created a movie clip consisting of about 27 dots named 'timer', I double clicked on 'timer' and animated it (making one dot disspaer every 15 seconds). My problem is that at the end of this animation I want it to go back and play a frame on the outside scene.
i.e. from the 'timer' editing scene (the one you get to when you double click) I want it to gotoAndPlay (103, "Game") - The scene the movie cliip is in.
I keep getting an error saying that it cannot locate Scene Game.

it looks like with the createEmptyMovieClip, u need to pass to it an instance name of an already existing movie which has been created manually and put in the library.I dont want to create an instance of a movie clip in the library. i want to create a movie clip in actionscript that does not already exist in the library.

I've used actionscript to make the 'slider' clip move along the 'groove' and display the value of the at each point in a text field. The idea is to have a slider object that i can use multiple times. I want a situation whereby I can create instances of 'sliderMc' so that I'll be able to move the slider on the individual clips and have each slider update different variables which would then be sent to an XML file or php. Im able tp talk back and forth between php and xml with no problem; The issue I'm facing is that after creating multiple instances of 'sliderMc', I'm not able to give the 'slider' and 'groove' movie clips different instance names without changing the instance names of all other 'slider' and 'groove' instances of 'sliderMc'. Which in turn makes it difficult to distinguish between the different sliders in actionscript.

When placing a tile, I need to check the existance of another tile to the left, right, or above and below, otherwise the tile should not be placed.. I've done some basic flash for my college course and i'm moving onto advanced flash and Actionscript. For this, i'm trying to build a "construction game".
What I have is objects on the right side, and I want to be able to drag out copies of those objects onto the left and have the size and rotation of each object adjustable...
So say click and drag on a circle, it puts a copy of the circle where I place it on the left. I can then drag that circle around, scale it or rotate it, or if I decide I don't want it at all, drag it onto a recycle bin icon and have it removed.
I'd like to be able to make as many copies of that circle as allowed (so maybe a limit of 10?), and have each one adjustable when you "select" it...
