ActionScript 2.0 :: Prevent Mouse Clicks/Hide Hand?
Jul 18, 2006
Sometimes it's necessary in a Flash project to prevent the user from being able to click on a button at certain times during the presentation. I'll typically add an "invisible" button on top of the button (no graphics in the button except for the hit zone), which does the trick nicely BUT...The cursor, of course, turns into a hand icon, making the user think it's still a clickable button.Is there a way to prevent the cursor from changing from an arrow into a hand icon?Or, is there a better way to make buttons "unclickable" at times?

I have my player who moves to where ever I click on the stage.How to I prevent the player from moving to areas that I don't want him to?
Example:How do I define that if the player clicks on the tree to NOT move to it.I know I could attach listeners to different movieclips but it would get out of control pretty fast. Is there a better way? Perhaps something to do with layering? If I apply a listener to the map object for example will anything on top of the map block the listener?

I'm building a project that has a character navigate through a room by clicking on the floor. Right now, the walls, character, and floor are all children of the same display object for sorting purposes. My question: is there a way to disable mouse clicks to the walls and character while allowing clicks to the floor? Using mouseChildren appears to be an all or nothing deal and I can't seem to isolate individual floor/wall/character objects for use with mouseEnabled.

I'm using the loadMovie command to load an external swf (a brief tutorial) into the parent swf. The parent swf is an interactive exercise with several answer buttons. The user can click a button to open and close the turorial on top of the exercise.k the answer buttons in the parent swf below and hear the correct and incorrect sound cues. When they close the tutorial, they see that answers have been given and there's a score when they didn't intentionally give any answers.

I am using AS 3 Flash CS4, WIndows XP SP3. I am unable to use the Mouse.hide(); method in many of my scripts. If I add Mouse.hide() to a preexisting script, I get the following error; line1 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method hide through a reference with static type Class. If I add Mouse.hide():void; to a preexisting script, I get the following error: line1 Label must be a simple identifier Once this has happened, if I then remove ALL lines of script from the file...but leave the Mouse.hide(); [or Mouse.hide():void;], and also remove all objects from the stage, when I run the file, I still get those same errors.

I have a movieClip that a user can click on to hide/show a different movieClip (for this example, lets say its a circle). I have an 'onPress' on that movieClip that tells it go and play the next frame inside itself movieclip (there are two frames which just have different graphics to represent off/on) and also the line of code to hide the other movieClip.
The problem is that if a user clicks on the movieClip to hide the circle and then keeps their mouse in the exact same position and tries to click again to show the circle, nothing happens... they have to move the mouse at least a little bit before it will recognize it is being clicked again. The same thing happens with buttons I have that scroll the page... which is extremely annoying since you can't just click the same spot multiple times, you have to move your mouse a bit and then click again.

import mx.utils.Delegate;
_root.onMouseDown = Delegate.create(this, setUserActivityTimeout);setUserActivityTimeout();

I have a "large" movie clip and "small" movie inside a "large" movie clip but on it's let's say upper right corner:
Code:
largeMc.addChild(smallMc);[
If i try to catch Mouse.DOWN events on them the following way:
Code:
largeMc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, largeClicked);
smallMc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, smallClicked);
Then of course both event are captured no matter where i click.Is it possible to capture independent mouse clicks on both of these two movie clips and if so, how can i do that?

These issues only appear on Safari and Firefox on Mac.I tested with Opera and Chrome and Windows (inc. IE), but they work fine.
Mac OS 10.6.8
Firefox 5.0.1
Safari 5.1
Flash CS5.5
1 Hiding the original black arrow cursor (Firefox only)When cursor rollovers to an Invisible button (oneBtn), I want to show custom cursor (newCursor) and hide mouse. But Firefox shows the custom cursor as well as the black arrow...
2. Mouse.show doesn't work only on Safari, Mac.When rollout to the invisible button (oneBtn), the custom cursor (newCursor) hides but the mouse doesn't appear. This happens only on Safari.
stop();
Mouse.show();
newCursor._visible = false;

Im looking for a quick solution (if its out there) using the autohide feature using the FLV Playback Component.
Current situation: Using ActionScript 2. The FLV component fills the stage. Autohide is set to true.
It looks to me that since the video fills the stage, the skin will not hide. What I would like to do is have the skin fade out if the mouse doesnt move for a certain period of time.

I have a MC which I'm using as a button. It has an image and a text box.I've set it to button mode using:bioLink.buttonMode = true;When the mouse is over the MC it shows the hand icon when over the image, but not over the textbox. However, if the textbox is clicked, it still executes the button code. Is there a way to have the hand icon show when over the text as well?

I finished creating a vertical scrolling news ticker for a client, but I've run into a problem. I use .html to create functional anchor tags within flash. I need to create a capture event when the mouse changes from the pointer to a hand on the anchor links. I'd spent the morning googling for help, and reading all of my resource books, and I still don't know how to create a capture event for mouse hand cursors. I'm attaching the code in question. It works as intended.

I've just stumbled upon a tiny but annoying problem concerning the mouse hand symbol that appears to indicate if a movie is clickable or not. I have a movie with a onRelease handler attached to it. Now I dynamically want to remove this handler (eg.mc.onRelease=null)However, when hovering over the movie, flash keeps on changing the mouse pointer into a hand symbol. Thus wrongly telling the user something will happen when clicking. example code to trigger the problem:
mc1.onRelease = function() {trace('mc1');}
mc2.onRelease = function() {mc1.onRelease=null;}
Note: The same thing happens when removing an onRollover handler.

I am aware that the follow will show a hand cursor:
component.mouseChildren = true;
component.useHandCursor = true;
component.buttonMode = true;
When I do the above on a List component, the hand button is shown and the whole component loses it's interactivity (Hand cursor is shown even on scrollbars).
So how can I show the hand cursor only when rolling over the list items?

I'm trying to create an interactive mouse that mimics the hand cursor you see in pdf files and other programs. There's two movieclips I want to use for the cursor. The open hand and the grab. I can get the cursor to work on the open hand, but can't get it to work when I press and want the open hand to change to the grab cursor. Here's my code:
onClipEvent (load) {
Mouse.hide();
startDrag(this, true);
