ActionScript 3.0 :: Assigning Flashvars To Variables?

Jan 16, 2009

I am using swfobject v2.1 to pass flashvars to my swf and I was wondering what the best or preferred way to pass those flashvars values to AS3 variables inside the swf.

snippet of javascript inside my html file from swfobject's required code.

Code:
....
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.myVar1 = "one";
flashvars.myVar2 = "two";

[Code].....

I essentially want to be able to pass a handful of flashvars to my swf and assign their values to AS3 variables inside (such as flv file url, skin, background colors, autoplay true/false, etc... my approach would be that certain AS3 variables would have default values (realizing my above examples do not show this), while others would require them passed from Javascript (flashvars).

ActionScript 3.0 :: FlashVars As Global Variables?

Aug 10, 2009

I'm trying to make my FlashVars global so that they can be accessed in all of my scripts. I have an external .as file called 'globalvars.as' and it has the following code:

Code:
package{
import flash.display.*;
public class globalvars extends MovieClip{

[Code].....

But I get the following error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. The Flashvars are set right as I can access the variables in the main timeline, just not the external .as file. I'd like these variables to be accessible to other external .as files which is why I'm doing this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Send Multiple URL Variables In FlashVars?

Nov 1, 2010

I am sending a complex flashVar sequence where a shell swf gets the URL for a SWF to load via flash vars. The URL for this loaded swf has flashVars appended to it. I need to pass in two flashVars to the loaded swf, but can't get it to work. I think it might have to do with escaping the "&" -- I've tried & but no dice -- in both cases it just ignores the & and everything following it. I can't post sample code as the forum won't let me post what it considers 'links' -- but basically the flash var string passed to the loading swf is something like [code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flashvars And Passing Variables From HTML To Flash (CS4)?

I am working on creating a Flash menu that, depending on the page calling the swf file, will show a specific frame just for that page.  It works almost perfectly except for the very first time you access the swf during a given browser session.  If you refresh the browser window, it will start working just fine after that as long as you stay in that same window.Incidentally, this is only for IE.  It won't work at all in Firefox.  It pulls the first set of frames, which is a template menu for one of the departments.The HTML code providing the variables:

Actionscript 3 :: Get Multiple Flashvars Variables Into Flash (not Using Swfobject)

I'm rebuilding this embedable player for a client of mine, the video file URL and a couple of other variables are in the HTML as Flashvars. I suspect something is wrong with the code that looks for the flashvars.

The top part showing the green box is where the player didn't load because it was unable to obtain the Flashvars form the HTML. The player below has the Flashvars string hardcoded into the player so it works.

I believe the problem lies somewhere below Perhaps something wrong with the way I'm trying to pull in the Flashvars?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create An Application That Receives Variables Passed Through FlashVars?

Dec 30, 2010

I'm trying to create an application that receives variables passed through FlashVars and makes use of the new TLFTextField. I have run into an issue with accessing the FlashVars after declaring a TLFTextField variable.

The code I have is as follows:

ActionScript Code:
import fl.text.TLFTextField;
var tf:TextField = new TextField();

[code]....

The HTML file is passing a FlashVars value of "title=ThisIsTheTitle" If I run the code, the tf TextField is empty. If I comment out the last line that creates the TLFTextField, the FlashVars come through fine and the tf TextField displays the "title" variable that was passed through FlashVars.If I change the last line to read:

ActionScript Code:
var titleTLF:TextField = new TextField();

It works fine (the "title" variable from FlashVars is show in the tf TextField). I don't understand why delcaring a TLFTextField prevents the FlashVars from being accessed.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Filling Out Of Order Using Flashvars?

Sep 25, 2011

I am working on a flashvars script that is reading various types of name/value pairs. I have NO control over the flashvars. I would like to write a dynamic script that parses the data into arrays depending upon the names of the name/value pairs...so the names of one type will be head0, head1, head2, etc and the names of another type will be color0, color1, color2, etc.I finally got the script working so that it pulls only the types of names and values I want, but it is putting the values in the array out of order. So, instead of the values for head0, head1, head2, head3 it is putting the values in this order: head1, head0, head3, head2. That is the exact order. What am I doing wrong! I am only using one of the variables right now for simplicity - head. Here is the code:

var headTextArray:Array = new Array();
var foundItems1:Array = new Array();
var foundItems2:Array = new Array();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Variables, Variables Not Working Correctly?

Jul 11, 2011

There is a bird, and you control its upwards movement with a key. It has thrust, gravity, it works fine. The problem is I have a bunch of icicles that come at the bird that he is supposed to avoid. I tried this first with math random to use as an x coordinate and than move across the screen, but the icicles had the same x-coordinates sometimes. I tried does not equal(!=) but that doesn't work. I made an array and each number that came out of the array I assigned a different variable. This works fine. I put this variable into the x-coordinate such as mc.x=((n)*60)+480. I did this for five different icicles. All their differnt variables have a different value, and I put them into the same function for each individual video clip, but they still don't go to the right coordinate. Here is the test code just for the initial coordinate of each icicle before it moves...////////////////////////////Quote:

var temp:Array = new Array()

ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Array Values To Variables In Another Array

Dec 11, 2007

I have some variables created on the main timeline and a mc called options which will be where those variables can be manipulated. A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?

Flash8 :: Put Variables In An Array?

Is it possible to put variables in an array?

For example:

Code:
var positions:Array = new Array(Stage.width / 2, Stage.height / 2);

When the above code is executed, the values "Stage.width / 2" and "Stage.height / 2" are replaced with the number values and the array becomes, for example [500, 400].And when I call the array positions[0], instead of getting the value of the Stage.width / 2 (considering the stage has been resized), I get the static value of 500.What can I do to get the value of Stage.width / 2 ?

Looping Through Array Of Variables?

Why doesn't AS2 interpret these variable as it steps through? Everything works if I write it out longhand and do not use a loop, but if I try to condense things by using an array, variables such as _root.myTargets[i]._x are not interpreted properly.

Code:

myTargets = new Array('shoot','shoot2');
for (var i:Number=0; i<myTargets.length; i++) {

ActionScript 2.0 :: Add Array Variables Instead Of Concatenate

May 26, 2010

I have this code to push "Variable1" in to MyArray:
ActionScript Code:
_root.MyArray.push(Variable1);
Note:
"Variable1" is a number stored as a string.
When "Variable1" changes, the code above is called upon to add the new "Variable1" value in to MyArray. Then I have this code which is called upon to find the sum of all the values within "MyArray":

ActionScript Code:
for (i=0; i<=_root.MyArray.length-1; i++) {
_root.MyArray_Total = _root.MyArray_Total + MyArray[i];
}

My problem is that rather than adding the values contained within MyArray (as if they were numbers), the values are being concatenated instead.

Example:
If MyArray values were 1, 2, 3
I want the MyArray_Total to = 5
But instead... MyArray_Total = 123

I tried making a new variable named "Variable1_num", declaring it as a number, making it equal to "Variable1", and then pushing "Variable1_num" in to "MyArray"... but that didnt seem to work either.
