Maybe something like: if text_field_1 is focused && somebody hits : add an @*to the existing text in field 1.
Or make a loop looks for : in text_field_1 and when it finds one it replaces it with @

how can I turn every specific word in a textbox to specific color? this works like highlighting if I have the word Jeeves in TextField object, I would like each occurrence of Jeeves in this TextFIeld to become red or any other color In AS2 i had to search the text for keywords and use the TextFormat class. and then handle keypresses for the textbox for highlighting as the user is typing.

I am looking for a way to "detect" a blank in the text which represents the point in the sentence where a word needs to be filled in. And then that point needs to be represented by a movieclip or sprite or something that will hold text from the word that is dropped onto it (it will need to be draggable in case the user changes thier mind).

when ideally, i would get:

it doesn;t replace the second 0 with 1., but it replaces the first one. However if the initial sting is 'let's go' if I press x the letter e is replaced with 1. if the string is 'eet's go' if i press x the first e is replaced with 1 and if i press x again the second letter e is replaced.

I want to be able to replace the spaces at the beginning (inside the > <) for other character. It shouldn't affect the number of character at the right of the spaces or the attributes in the value1 definition.

I am making a little banner for my site that makes different offers based on geo location (zipcode). I have the code working pretty much except for a few elements I want.
1) I want the input box to say "Enter Zip Code" until the user clicks on the input box. Then it clears out and the user can enter their zip code. The text box at this point should only take in 5 digits and no more.
2) Instead of having to click on the button to submit the form I want the user to also have an option just press enter when they are on the input text field and it process the form.

View 9 Repliesi'm looking for a way to capture key press based on the character pressed. using KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN has some problems: i can use String.fromCharCode works for letters only (and have to do capitalization manually using shiftKey boolean) but it doesn't work for other characters. the keycode for - (hyphen) is the same as for _ (underscore), for example, and fromCharCode returns the 1/2 (half) symbol.

But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.

I am trying to get the position of the last character in the text field. The below script works fine till I change the width of the text from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the text field. For some reason the value of frame variable returns null if I change the width from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the field.

I have textfield and a custom curso movie clip on a parent movie clip. Now I need to move the cursor the characters on the textfiled ,whenever there is righ of left movement. Everytime a certain button gets clicked the content and colour of the textfield change. I want to retain the style and filter. For you non Brits out there UK postcodes work on two blocks of 2-4 characters each.
L2 2HH - Liverpool central
M24 2TN - suburb of Manchester
IV56 7NQ - outter Inverness
You get the idea. So the first part of a UK postcode, wether it be 2 characters or 4 characters MUST have atleast one numeric and one non-numeric character in it. How do I detect this?
At the moment I've just got my CHECK POSTCODE button to run a few functions only if my POSTCODE (input text) field length it greater or equal to 2 characters. So how do I easily detect an input of numeric and non-numerical characters without having to resort to indexOf ...a...b...c...1...2...3...?
I need the use of the chars â„¢ and ® but only the latter appears. I'm using a loadVars object and an external .txt file which is loading with success, but where I need the phrase "Soo Bahk Doâ„¢ Moo Duk Kwan®," I only get "Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan®" Why doesn't "â„¢" load?
Edit: I'd like to add that I have chosen to embed all uppercase,lowercase, and punctuation marks, and I additionally added â„¢ and ® to ensure they'd appear, but, the trademark logo still does not appear.
