I created a text field but the field stop scrolling after a certain amount of lines. How do i get it to scroll through my text field? here is the code on the up button:

this is the line that seems to control the amount of scrolling, which is actually just rolling the text field up as the scroll bar is pulled down...

I'm fairly sure it will revolve around the use of a stage.stageWidth listener on an mc and then subtracting a certain amount to ensure it doesn't span the entire width..
I would like to have a possibility, where a user could draw simple lines, but with exact length (5000mm, 3150mm, 3950mm etc).where a user could just click and see the lines. Together these lines would make a floor plan for a house. These lines don't have to have thickness, because it will be just a sketch where walls are located. After user has drawn the sketch i would need the program to generate a text file with coordinates of the lines.

All the code is written for vertical scrolling, the content I need to be scrolled is going to be horizontal. how can I rewrite this code to be horizontal scrolling? it seems like the scroll button (the one you drag along) doesn't stay confined to its scroll line either.

I have a gallery with a vertical thumbnail filmstrip on the left. There is an up and down button on the thumbnail strip. I want to set the up and down buttons to scroll a set amount of pixels. Is this possible? How?
I know the height of the thumbnails are 130 px each. If I could set the buttons to only go up or down that number of pixels on click, it would scroll the height of just one image thumbnail at a time per click, right?

As for the scrolling text, working with that much text as one long row of letters doesn't seem feasible, so I'm wondering is there a standard way in Flash CS5 of working with large amounts of animated text? Not the user editable kind like text fields and such, but presentational text.
Obviously it's not efficient to have one long string of text that extends several screens beyond the display, as is the case now. Editing just one letter can take several seconds of scrolling as the string is currently over 3000 px wide, and it's not even all the text that's going to be in the final animation. I've gotten to chapter 5 in my AS 3.0 classroom book but I need to use wisdom today (CHAPTERS before I gain it for myself),I need to create a custom scroll bar with buttons that function just like the UIScrollBar but more visually suited to our projects. the boss demands it.

I need to generate three lines of text (essentially jibberish) that are each 60 characters long, including a hard return at the end of each line. The lines are generated from a dictionary of words of various lengths (typically 1-8 characters). No word may be used more than once, and words must be separated by spaces. I think this is essentially a bin-packing problem.
The approach I've taken so far is to create a hashMap of the words, grouped by their lengths. I then choose a random length, pull a word of that length from the map, and append it to the end of the line I'm currently generating, accounting for spaces or a hard return. It works about half the time, but the other half of the time I'm getting stuck in an infinite loop and my program crashes.

to try and obtain the amount of characters / pixel length of the scrollText var / text file
however, regardless of whats contained within the scrollText document i keep getting the textLength return of 20 ?

View 3 RepliesI have a spark skinnable component which contains a datagroup with images. The datagroup is scrolled by hovering the mouse over it. Everything works fine except one thing: after I change the datagroup provider, I need to scroll down automatically. The problem is the images are not loaded immediately after I set the provider so (contentHeight - height) does not yet represent the actual maximum scrolling position. Is there an easy way of telling the datagroup to scroll down as its content loads? Because the workaround seems to be not so straightforward. I can't seem to figure out the .numLines property. I've tried calling it on a TextField that was created dynamically. The TextField has multiline set to true and wordWrap also set to true. Any clue why it would consistantly report the number 1? It's being called in a trace statement after the htmlText is set to a string from a xml file.

im trying to make a simple text input field, where a user can input a fixed number of chars (this bit isnt the problem). And can only make a certain amount of new lines. This bit is the problem. Currently a user can keep pressing return and make the text field as large as they wish, and i need to basically stop any input say it reaches 8 lines.
Ive looked at numLines which states is readOnly but does something odd if u set it to a number. What its doing is not allowing my text field to change size at all. I have some code that repositons my text field and a clip underneath as it grows. Defining numLines stops this working which confuses me further:)
Im know i can check against numLines so when its goign to go greater then to stop inout. But im not sure on how to actually stop the input if that makes sense.
I have text from an RSS feed parsed using AS3 and displayed on the stage in a few dynamic text fields. Some of the text is too long and I would like to limit the text in the field to "x" amount of characters and insert an ellipses (...) character when that
limit is reached. Cannot seem to find any mention of it in the Adobe. Is there such a method or class that will do this?
When i scroll the scrollBar in Flash the browser is scrolling too. What i need is to stop scrolling the browser and scroll only the flash box. And the Browser have to scroll only then when the flash scrollbar is in end.
