ActionScript 2.0 :: Stop / Inactivate Parent MovieClip Buttons?

I have a movie which when a button is clicked loads an external movie on top of it (just like a popup I guess). The only prob I am having however is that the buttons on the parent movie are still active and I don't want this to be the case.

i'm a flash newb, wrestling with actionscript 3 and ran into a problem with a drop down menu.the menu is composed of nested movie clips that open and close, and contain buttons that control a ui loader in scene 1. it seemed to be working all right until i realized that after opening and closing and reopening a submenu, the buttons that worked the first time stopped controlling the ui loader. since there aren't any error messages i'm kind of at a loss as to what needs fixing.

I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.

1) I have a set of menus (movieclips) with 2 states: active and inactive (frame labels). I want to be able to inactivate all the menus but the one clicked. Let's say I have 3 menus and that are called m1,m2,m3.
2) The syntax for m1 would be something like this: (all inactivated and then the one clicked is activated)
on(release){
for(i=1; i<4; ++i){
menu="_parent.m"+i;[code]....
I know just doing this down here it works but I want to automate it...what if we had 30 buttons? The problem i menu.gotoAndStop ("inactive"). Menu gets the proper content in the loop..that is.. _parent.m1 , _parent.m2, _parent.m3.

I have a button and inside the RollOver-code I have this if-statement:

s.onSoundComplete = function(){[code]....
But since the user can RollOver many times and start the sound several times I want to add a code that deactive the RollOver and activate it after the onSoundComplete.

I need my buttons to stay put, but, I need to figure out away to make them stop working temporarily. I have layers above themthat become visible, and the buttons underneath these visiblelayers are working, even though they're covered up. Is there a wayto inactivate them, or make the layers above them take precedencewithout changing the button's _visible property?

I'm making a website using flash,And on my movie it says Welcome to Blah Blah Blah,And then a button appears, To make sure my button works,The writing turns to bold and goes bigger,When the button appears it works and goes bigger, Until it reaches the point in the timeline where it has stop();It stops my movie from looping or restarting which is what i want, But it stops my buttons from working aswell, How to keep my button working but movie stops,If you want me to explain more just ask

I would need help to inactivate all other actions on movie clips while the active movie clip is running. So in my flash scen when the user makes a roll over on a movie clip I would like that movie clip to play all frames in that movie clip before the user can roll over on an other movie clip. So the active movie clip don't gets interupted. What actionscript 2.0 should I look for?

I got this tip from another person.

But I can't really get it working. It only plays on of the movieclips once and then nothing more happens. It's like it don't get backs to it initial state, or don't release the allowPlay = false state after the movie clip has ended

I have three buttons and when I click the second one, the first stops working (e.g. no trace event and it won't go back to the frame "tab1") but the third still works. Then when I press the third button both the first and second no longer work. If I take out the gotoAndStop lines, the buttons work fine. The subsequent frames simply have stops on them.

My setup has several movieclips in different layers. My problem is that .onRollOver, onRollOut and .onRelease functions are still active for movieclips lying underneath. Is it possible to inactivate these functions and then activate them again when it is needed? Or how do I solve this?

I have a flash website www.sitzmarkgolf.com. I have a couple of embedded swf's in my main flash page. When you click on a menu item to switch to another page the embedded swf's reload the home page again until they stop playing. Is there a way via as to stop these swf's from playing when you click on a link? sorry I am new to flash and as.

I'm trying to access a parent movieClip from the child movieClip
Here's what I want to do,
I've got a movieClip named wrong_mc, which plays for a couple of frames and on the last frame, its got a close button "close_btn" inside of it, now I wanna write the code such that when close_btn is played the movieClip "wrong_mc" should go and stop at frame1, I'm just not able to access this movieClip from the button.

I've tried a couple dozen things to try and stop this movie clip, even down to the bare bones basics and its not working.I have an imported TIFF sequence that i imported onto the stage of a movie clip. Its 73 frames long, i want it to stop on frame 73.So i add the usual stop(); command but it doesn't stop, it keeps looping.On the main layer i put this movieclip in i have an AS layer that also has stop(); and moviclip.stop();But it doesn't stop at all. it just keeps repeating.I put it down to this bare basic setup just to see if i could even stop it. I have some bombs like this :

Each movieclip sjunkBomb contains an animated movieclip. When the bombs reach the bottom I want to stop the inside animation.I guess it's better to stop them so they affect the rest of the game if there are a lot of bombs. I know how to hide them with sjunkBomb[x] .visible = false; but if I want to stop them? sjunkBomb[x].stop(); doesn't work!?

I have a parent sprite containing a child named controlBar, whose visibility is initially set to false. When the parent sprite is moused over, controlBar's visibility is set to true, and when the parent sprite is moused out, controlBar's visibility is set to false again, like so:[code]This works fine when mousing over and out of the parent sprite, but then when I mouse over the controlBar, the parent sprite dispatches the MOUSE_OUT and MOUSE_OVER events again, which quickly sets controlBar's visibility to false and then true, and occasionally causes controlBar to flicker. [code]All clips are squared.Ok, on the PlayerPlane, there are little soldiers, which have hotkeys. The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip.The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]

As I am finally dipping my toe's into AS3 from years of AS2, I am having an issue for my menu buttons (which are within a movie clip) effecting the activation of movie clips that are featured on the main timeline.
I can get this to run how i want it when each menu button is on the main timeline (by using the 'the click to go to Frame and Play' code snippet)...but when these button are within a movie clip, I can't figure out where in the code i have to add the _parent. command ?
I have attached the .fla to see what I have done. I am keen to keep using the code snippets scripts.

I have a main flash movie that loads three external movies, the external movie buttons don't work when loaded onto the stage.
In each external swf thats loaded, the button actionscript is in this form:

And this works when each swf is loaded stand-alone. But not when loaded as an external swf.With the numbers ranging from 1-19 as far as pages. How should I edit the code so that these buttons work when loaded externally?

Basically I have 3 swf, parent.swf, child1.swf and child2.swf
parent.swf loads child1.swf
child1.swf loads child2.swf
child2.swf consists of 7 buttons which when click it will 7 different swf files.
My problem is I want to call those buttons name/instance name to my parent so that when click it will load its corresponding swf file.

I have an swf file, MyRoundButtons, which is a set of radio buttons I built (not components). It works fine, but if I import it into a parent it won't work anymore. I have to write a script to load it into a movieclip, (which I hate, because I'll have a several different swfs to assemble on my final stage. I really want to see them all on the stage together, not just at runtime.)
Even when I load it into a clip and the buttons work, however, it doesn't seem to have a separate timeline when double-clicked ,and:I can't make the imported buttons control the timeline of the parent.I defined a test function:

Frame "nirvana," in th parent, has a Trace instruction in it.
goToNirvana works on its own in the parent. [code].....
Whether I define that function in the child, the parent, or both, the instruction won't work. Now, I'd prefer not to do the loadMovie thing at all if I can avoid it, I'd rather have fully rendered button clips onstage at authoring for me to arrange and move about, with fully independent timelines right there. But you see what I'm trying to do. I just can't get it done.
