what's the best way to combine these onrelease functions here so i dont have to repeat the same lines of code?
[Code]...
I am trying to reuse the lines of code and it worked fine the first time but when I tried to use the evtObj.target.name it gave me error 1120:Access undefined property evtObj.Here is the code I tried to use:When I test the movies it just runs automatically instaed of waiting for the click.
View 4 Repliesjust going through my code and I want to reduce it where possible. is there a way to combine these two lines into one?
ActionScript Code:
this.mainClip_mc.item0.percentage_txt.setTextFormat(perTextFormat);
this.mainClip_mc.item1.percentage_txt.setTextFormat(perTextFormat);
I have one function that puts text in a text field and makes a button goto a url onRelease.The code is like this:
Code:
item.onRelease = function() {
myButton.onRelease = function() {
getURL("http://google.com", "_blank");
}
talk = this.txt;
}
the only problem is that the button doesn't work onRelease. i think that it is because there are too many functions there, but at the same time,
I'm just starting to learn to make my own functions and was trying to make a walk sequence. My original program used an elaborate series of counters and onEnterframe, but I want to take a different route (basically starting from scratch) because my walk sequences always turned the avatars into picasso paintings when two or more keys were pressed simultaneously. I'm more familiar now with set and clear timeout, but what do I do if I want a specific sequence to count up, then down, or rotate back and forth, like the pendulum of a clock? starting with a basic function like function walk(bodypart){bodypart._rotation += 45;}. if (keyUsed == 68){walk(square_mc);} what do I have to change so the square rotates back and forth +/- 45 degrees while depressed?
View 1 RepliesHow can I keep repeating my functions below endlessly? I am Using the enterframe and timer class.I want my object to keep going across the stage over and over.Do I need a for loop?[code]...
View 2 Repliesif myVariable is a number variable and myFunction is a function, how do I use AS3 to repeat myFunction myVariable number of times?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to repeat a function that basically will attachmovie on a "tileset", an image depending on the parameter. It's called AddID(i), and currently there's only 2 valid options, 0 and 1, images showing, X and O. There's a Button, and theres an array and a function that shows an image of the tile depending on its ID value loaded from the array.
My problem is: Everything works just great as if you repeat the function by clicking again, but... When repeating the function by code, all the tiles will have the Image of the last tile added.

I have written a script where a MovieClip instance is created at the mouse cursor position. It creates the instance and everything is fine.
ActionScript Code:
function createMarker(event:MouseEvent)
{
var newMarker:marker_mc = new marker_mc();
[Code]....
But I would like to drag and drop those markers after creation. Also identify them. Because currently the have all the same name. Is there a way to give them an dynamic id?
I am wondering if I can somehow combine these two functions into one server call. The problem I have is that I have 2 different data types that I need to send. One as a ByteArray and one via URLVariables.
Code:
// this works on it's own
function callServer():void {
var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("echo.php");[code]..././.
So I figured out how to play my video's and have button's pop up to select a next video. Here's a copy of my code:
ActionScript Code:
import fl.video.FLVPlayback;
import fl.video.VideoEvent;
[code]......
I have a serious situation regarding the onRelease Funciton not working properly.I have a FVLplayback componant inside a flash project inside a movie clip. Inside that movie clip I have two layers, One for actionscript and and the other for the actual component which contains instance name of 'myPlayer' (without quotes)[code]That cameraRoll is the instance name of another movie clip I have located in the movie clip as shown in path above. Inside that movie I have rollover, Rollout effects. The actionscipt is in an invisible button right on top of the objects. The actionscript is:[code]The objective: the movieclip to carry out the rollover Rollout effect and to have the function that will start the video.The Problem: When I run the flash project, it does the effect but won't start the video. If i move things around, I can have the video start playing but then the button won't do the rollOver, RollOut effects.
-the path to the video component:-root.menu.video
-the path to the movie clip taht contains the timeframes for rollOver/rollOut effects )which contains invisible button on top of everything. root. menu.cameraRoll
I am a 3D Designer and I also want to learn Flash. give me some links or books because I want to learn that code , which is behind the design. I don't know the terms, I think is actionscripting and I would like to learn from start . How to combine code with design. I can follow some tutorials and copy the code from those tutorials but like this I will never learn to make what I want.
View 1 Repliesam currently developing a mobile app for android, and i have been getting some code from some tutorials, and want to combine them. But the codes are all in packages, and i don't know how to combine them since i can't make more than one of them the document class.How can i unpackage them, or package them together.
View 1 RepliesI've been trying all morning to figure this out but I'm really not the best when it comes to actionscript. I've looked around and I just simply don't have a clue how to adopt other code to fit my own .I have the following code
Code:
function reActivateTopMenu() {
_root.top_nav.btn1.gotoAndStop(1);
_root.top_nav.btn1.enabled = true;[code]....
I just can't figure out the exact way of writing the code in "flash" talk and not "dave" talk!
playback controls, however I still have a problem. I want to have an additional button that links to a website (I have coded this correctly with actionscript and works great. Now I have two seperate projects...one project has my playback controls and the other has a button that links to a website.I am having problems combining both action script codes and having everything working properly My code for each is below. How do I arrange them into one?
Code for link to website:
website_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,gotoWebsite);
function gotoWebsite(evtObj:Event):void{ var theSite:URLRequest = new

I have a project which uses very similar code for I think 12 or 13 different movieclips. I actually copy-pasted a good chunk of the code changing words and numbers here and there.[code]The main point of this part of the project is that each movieclip is a selector on a scrollbar. I just wanted the selectors to look nice, so they tween up and down on rollover and when they are clicked they change from black and white to color. Also when clicked they move a very long movie clip called customizing_forms_mc, into view on the stage. The code is inside a movieclip that contains all the selectors. There is a layer for each selector and on that layer is the code for that selector. I was thinking that there might be a way to call a fuction perhaps with the variables that are brought to the function being strings that i could substitute in for the names of the movieclips. I tried attatching the fla or an swf but they are both too large. For a more detailed look at the code on the stage:[code]As I previously said there is a scroller with the selector buttons and when clicked they bring a certain part of another movieclip into view. Of course, everything is masked so it looks nice.
View 1 RepliesI have a movieclip called myButton,inside of myButton i have a textfield called buttonLabel. I have 16 instances of myButton placed on the stage with instancenames myButton1,myButton2, etc.I want the textfield inside of each button to display the same number as the one in their instance name. ie myButton1.buttonLabel.text = "1".instead of repeating that line of code 16 times, is there a way i can use a loop? something like
for (var i:int = 1; i < 17; i++)
{
myButton(i).buttonLabel.text = i
}
I have a problem with a contactform in flash. The form and the script works fine, but I want to add a function. When pressing the "submit button" it sends me an email. And the text "message sent appears. I would like to add a onreleaseandgotoandplay function which takes me to the frame 2. I have tried to place this function into the button, it works fine taking me to frame 2, but then it does not send me an email....
Actionscript
bSubmit.onRelease = function(){email();
}function email(){
var sMessage = "Name: " + tName.text + "
E-mail: " + tEmail.text + "
Comments: " + tComments.text + "
[Code] .....
Is it possible to assign several onRelease Functions for multiple movieClips on a single function?
Here is my scenario... I have 10 movieClips on stage... i have a function on script which needs to be called every time any of the movieclips are clicked.. do i have to write a separate movieclip.onRelease function for each and every movieclip.
How to create a code to generate non repeating random number?
View 3 RepliesI'm loading an item to the stage and trying to apply a function to it but it doesn't seem to work.
Code:
_root.attachMovie("FullScreenBTN","FullScreenBTN",_root.getNextHighestDepth());
_root.FullScreenBTN.onRelease = function(){
trace("test")
}
When I press the button nothing happens, but when I remove the attach code and just put the button on the stage with the appropriate instance name it does work.

how to use if/else and setInterval statements on the cross fade slideshow. I am trying to edit the code to have the xml slideshow loop back to the first image and play continuously. I am ok following existing code, not great at writing/editing my own. I thought I needed to work within the nextImage function, and add a slideshow (); function. I haven't been able to get it right. Here is the code minus the xml loading part:

Is it possible to compare two functions in AS3? for eg : one function draws a line, the other function also draws a line. I want to compare whether the lines are in the same x and y?

View 7 RepliesI'm still finding my way around even the simplest things in Actionscript. I have a movieclip named 'leaf9' in which I'm using as a button (which happens to be within another movieclip). I have the following actionscript on the frame which contains 'leaf9':
[AS]
leaf9.onRollOver = function(){
this.gotoAndPlay("rollover");[code].....
What I want is for all the other functions to go away once "shrink" has started to play, so that if the mouse goes over the button again, the clip doesn't start playing "rollover" etc etc. So how do I stop all the other functions from playing once the .onRelease function has started?
I have a MovieClip with 3 functions to act as a button - onRollover, onRollout, onRelease. I want the onRelease function to cancel out the other functions once the user presses the button.
How would I script that?
Code:
navMenu1.onRollOver = function() {
_parent.jumpTobg1X(2);
this.gotoAndPlay("over");
[Code]...
Basically, I have the function sliding another movieclip along the x axis. onRelease it slide to position 3 - which I want it to stay there, but my onRollout function keeps sliding it back to position 2 (which i need for users just browsing the navigation before a selection is made)
My setup has several movieclips in different layers. My problem is that .onRollOver, onRollOut and .onRelease functions are still active for movieclips lying underneath. Is it possible to inactivate these functions and then activate them again when it is needed? Or how do I solve this?
