ActionScript 2.0 :: Load A Swf File In Bytes Through Loadbytes Method?
Jan 29, 2010
Is it possible to load a swf file in bytes through loadbytes method? Instead of giving the URL(URLRequest = "sample.swf"); i want to load through bytes.

What I'm trying to do is get the total bytes of all the files I want to load and display the percentage loaded of total bytes and bytes loaded of all the files. Its a slideshow so i want all the files loaded and then it will play. I've looked at bulk-loader but it wasn't what I needed. The image are loaded from an xml file. I think I would need to create an Array and then find out the total bytes but I don't know how to reference the loader in the progress.

I'm trying to load PNG images with ActionScript with a Loader object. This works fine for some of the images (the INIT and COMPLETE events are fired as expected), for some other it doesn't. I've read in this thread that a URLLoader might help, so I tried that, using the loadBytes() function afterwards. Still doesn't work: the URLLoader fires the COMPLETE event, but the LoaderInfo object does not.I've written a sample class that demonstrates the problem with two files (one working, the other one not).
public class LoaderTest extends MovieClip {
var output:TextField;
var loader:Loader;[code].....
All images were generated with the PHP GD library and I'm compiling with SWFTools's as3compile.The two images map_in_big.png and map_us_big.png are in the same folder (not allowed to post more hyperlinks).

The purpose of this is too allow a user to upload an image from their machine to be displayed on a website. The code's pretty straight forward and i have it all working fine, but have come across an issue. When certain portrait images are selected to be loaded and displayed, they get rotated at some point in the process and become landscape? There doesn't appear to be any consistency to the way they are rotated. Some are clockwise, some counter clockwise.
The one thing i've noticed though, is that it doesn't appear to be an issue with images that have been re-saved (so simply taken into photoshop and then saved without any modification), only images that are the original source of an image taken by a digital camera? This has got me wondering whether there's a possible issue with flash reading the meta data of the source image? The attached zip file contains the source code and swf, a selection of images from 2 different camera's and a modified image.
Just to note, due to the dimensions of the images, in the source code the bitmap is scaled to 0.1 so that the result can be clearly seen. I've tested this without the scaling and the image still gets rotated. There's a trace in the Event.COMPLETE handler of the Loader.loadbytes() method and you can see from this that the width and height of the loaded image have been switched? Note - due to the size of the zip file (4.6MB) because of the images, i've put them up on my server for download instead.[URL]

I got this very strange behavior from FlashPlayer debugger 10.1 r82. When I call loader.load method, no ADDED event is dispatched to the loader object. But if I open the file and call loader.loadBytes instead, an ADDED event is dispatched to the loader object. I suspect the ADDED event is dispatched because the content is being set as the child of Loader object, but why in the other case it is not dispatched?

I have an ActionScript 3 project in which I'm using a Loader to load external SWFs. In Chrome, the Flash Player will not fire Event.COMPLETE if the size of the SWF is greater than 32768 bytes! I tried to use ProgressEvent.PROGRESS and execute the logic when event.bytesLoaded == event.bytesTotal. This works, it does get there, but then loader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDefinition()
Can't find the class inside the SWF.

I have a legacy file format that contains sounds embedded in it (in various encodings). I would like to be able to play these sounds in Flash (Air?) by reading the sound bytes out of the file and instantiating a Sound object with them.
If the sound is unencoded (e.g., raw pcm), I've found that I can use the new flex 4 SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA event to play the sound.
However, if the sound is encoded (e.g., mp3), then I'm at a loss. The sound expected by SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA has to be raw pcm. From what I've seen, encoded Sounds can only be instantiated by [Embed]ing them, or by using a URLRequest with Sound.load().

I'm using Flash 9 Public Alpha, AS 3.0.I have an image pre-loader that loads an uncertain number of external image files. I wish to show a progress bar based on the current bytes loaded vs the total bytes that need to be loaded for all images.
The problem I'm having is that the .bytesTotal property of the Loader (well, technically the LoaderInfo) class always returns 0 until the first ProgressEvent is dispatched, which doesn't happen until after you begin loading the file. So I can't figure out a good way to find out what the grand total number of bytes that need to be loaded is unless I start all of my images loading simultaneously or somehow begin loading and then stop them from loading--either of which seems a poor solution to me.
I tried using the File class to reference the .size property, but this apparently only works in Flex, not in F9PA since the compiler didn't recognize the File class.

I am currently working on a project that will load a swc, inspect it and allow the user to view the classes inside.I load the library.swf using Loader.loadBytes (the bytes come from the unzip library I use). I create an instance of the class using getDefinitionByName.This all works fine as long as getDefinitionByName is called on the next frame. If I call it straight away I get a reference error. To get round this I've come up with a rather hacky solution:
private function processLibraries( event : Event ) : void
{
_zipFiles.forEach( processSwfs );[code].......
I really don't like using the enter frame event on the top level application. I also don't want to have to set up a timer. That's just as nasty.Loader.loadBytes doesn't fire a complete event so I don't know where I listen for an event for when the bytes have been fully loaded into the ApplicationDomain.

I've got a code, which caches loaded resources (both images and swfs) and saves its bytes to flash SharedObject:
var cache:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal('dataCache');
cache.data[url] = (loader.contentLoaderInfo as LoaderInfo).bytes;
When there's a query to load new resource, the code checks if the resource is in cache and then loads its bytes:
var loader:FlexLoader = new FlexLoader();
// handlers skipped
var lc:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
lc.applicationDomain = new ApplicationDomain(ApplicationDomain.currentDomain);

i like to ask about one thing If i create Loader and load external image by URLRequest , ill have result :
loader.content is Bitmap loader.content.bitmapData is BitmapData But if I use Loader.loadBytes(ImageBytes) , result is different even if ImageBytes is loader.contentLoaderInfo.bytes :
bytesLoader.content is MovieClip
bytesLoader.content.getChildAt(0) is BitmapData
bytesLoader.content.getChildAt(0).bitmapData is BitmapData

Does anyone knows if it's possible to write some bytes received from an AIR or Flex client in a server side file using the File class ? I have been trying for hours without any result.My goal is to store on the server side a swf file sended by a client in a ByateArray.Here is the code I have ended with, assuming that myfile.swf alreadey exists on the server prior to the code execution, and is at the right place, and that pBytes is a ByteArray received from the client which contains a swf file :
function writeFile( pBytes )
{
var myFile = new File( "myFile.swf" );

I am creating a gallery that loads the images from the library. The only method that I managed to do this is by creating movie clips that contain each of those images and then calling those movie clips from the library using the .attachMovie method because this method only works for movie clips and not instances of other library items such as actual images.
Is there anyway in ActionScript to create an instance of an image asset in the library?

I am the fan of kirupa but this is my first thread in forum. I have some problem with sendAndLoad method with actionscript 2.0. I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?
