ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting Focus Back For Keyboard Input?

Sep 22, 2009

found only one thing that seemed to be on the lines of what I am having issues with:

stage.focus = this;

My problem: The the flash app I am working on, some of the controls are done with the keyboard. At certain points, you need to click on an on screen button to continue. When I do this, it seems the focus is lost from where it was, and I can no long use keyboard actions (such as the spacebar KeyboardEvent that works prior to clicking the mouse)

I will admit that I am a newcomer to Flash (only played with it for about a month now), and I don't know much about the focus stuff. Basically, I want to know how to set the focus back to where it was after the buttons are clicked.

Actionscript :: Switching Back Into Previous Function From Event Handler Function?

May 13, 2010

I need to return to my original function after capturing an event (downloading something) with another function. The original function needs to return a value, which depends on the downloaded data. So, I'd like to pause original function for the time needed for the download and the eventhandler function to complete it's work, and resume it afterwards.

The obvious way is to set a flag value (both the original function and the eventhandler are within the same class) and make the original function check it until the eventhandler function changes the flag. But that would be wasteful, and my AS is slow enough already:) [other parts of the application utilise some heavy graphics]. Is there another way? Like an event that gets captured "in the middle" of the function? Or some other form of flow control?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Checking For No Keyboard Input Or A Function Call?

Oct 27, 2009

I'm working on a game that involves some timed animations and I need to fire a kind of 'failed' event.Basically I'm moving a clip from one point to another on the stage, the user has to input a correct key combination before the endpoint. I'm capturing the inputs correctly, but I need a default procedure to fire if the player doesn't input anything at all.So I'm guessing that at the endpoint I could check if my function to capture the key inputs was actually called, and if not, call the 'failed' procedure, or if at the endpoint, no keys were pressed, do the same

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can Function Receive Keyboard Or Mouse Event?

Nov 3, 2010

I've decided to add keyboard capabilities to my program. All my functions I have written require a mouse event to be passed to them. I'm just wondering if there is a better way to run these mouse event functions rather than to take out the contents of these functions and create a new function that is called within a mouse event function OR a keyboard event function. What I mean is I am starting to change the mouse event functions I have to only have one line inside of them which will run a separate function. This same separate function I will run using a keyboard input as well.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Make A Virtual Keyboard Using Flash?

Aug 14, 2009

im trying to make a virtual keyboard using flash. im using keyCodes, problem is how do you do a backspace?

Code:
if (Key.getCode() == 65) {
var_text.text = var_text.text + "a";
}

the code above should display "a" in a dynamic text box when you press "a" but how about backspace? I thought that the code below would work but it deletes the whole entry rather than a character.

Code:
if (Key.getCode() == 8) {
var_text.text = var_text.text - "";

ActionScript 1/2 :: Click A Keyboard Key To Make A Mc Play?

Feb 22, 2011

I've been looking for this for years, and a good friend of mine that is a master at AS3 is not well versed in AS2, so I thought I'd ask the pros here.onClipEvent(mouseUp) on(release)I have code like these two examples on a mc (sometimes a button, I only use buttons in AS2) on the root timeline. Usually I use a mouse-click to activate them, but there's this one mc I'd like to have work via a keyboard keypress. What I can do is make the first frame of this mc blank, and the 2nd frame and beyond have elements to expose. So I was thinking I hit the key "v" to play this mc that resembles a volume overlay screen for this UI I'm working on

Currently I have given myself some basic feature idea for the keyboard but have not start coding it yet since I'm not familiar with flash, they should be able to switch textboxes and have backspace button, a tab button, a spacebar button. Is anyone willing to show me a tutorial or a sample code for a head start?EDIT: I have found one AS3 keyboard,the textbox and keyboard are coded out but I need multiple textboxes.How can I drag and drop multiple textbox and keyboard into the screen instead?(because i need to have like 3 textboxes and a keyboard that I can design it, with the coded keyboard, can I change the design/color of the keyboard?)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyboard Event Listener Doesn't Call On Function

Jul 5, 2011

The keyBoard event listeners call on the rotate and unrotate functions and based on the key inputs(A and D) will implement either of the functions and rotate the image or return it to the original upright position. However, I haven't been able to get the function to work. When I press the A or D keys on the keyboard nothing happens. I even put trace() in one of the functions to see if the function will even be implemented but I don't get anything. I put in my Scripts below. Why are the functions not working? Do the eventlisteners fire or are there conflicts? I'm not getting any error messages.

ti.border = true
ti.addEventListener(TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT, onInput);
function onInput(event:TextEvent):void {
if(ti.text.search('a')!=-1) load_image("http://i54.tinypic.com/anom5d.png", "ottefct");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make Buttons Count As Keyboard Event?

Mar 9, 2010

I've recently started a project in Flash cs4 and I was trying to (for sake of ease) incorporate the use of the enter key as an alternative to pressing a submit button with the mouse. Now, I know how I could go about calling the keyboard event and linking it to a function, but I need to use the enter key for two separate instances (and yes they correspond to two separate functions) of a button.

In Flash MX, there used to be a way to set a property field in a button to a key to have it register as that key. If the buttons were on two separate frames, the key would only activate the button that was showing currently.

way to make the enter key count as pressing two different instances of a button (with two different functions) in the latest incarnation of actionscript?

Make Chat-box Transparent Without Change In Keyboard Language?

Dec 7, 2010

I've uploaded a Chatango chat-box on a site of mine, and it worked fine, until I added <'param name="wmode" value=" transparent"/> to make the Chat-box transparent, because it fits nicer to my site. In that case, the browser would take as a default that my Keyboard is set to English, and so I cannot use some characters, while some others are switched, because I'm otherwise using a Slovenian keyboard setting. How do I make the chat-box transparent without the change in my Keyboard language?
