ActionScript 2.0 :: Making A Mc Span 100% Width Without Scaling Or Distorting?
Dec 3, 2006how you would go about making a movieclip span 100% width of the stage?? for example in a full browser flash site?

View 2 RepliesRecently I've found a nice on-line diagramming tool - LovelyCharts. I like the way UI is designed - you can view screenshot here. I wonder how to make an image that span across multiple components, like the LovelyCharts logo in the upper right corner of the screenshot.
View 2 RepliesI am having a header in flash lets say of 900x600. And i was asked to scale it only horizontaly. I know and i have used scaling the movieclip on all sides. But in this case they only want me to scale it horizontally and don't make the elements in it loose proportion.So if the website scales so will have the flash to scale increasing it's width so i can add more elements in flash, dinamically to left and right.
View 2 Repliesi was wondering if there is a method to get the width of an object that is a child of a child of a child ....n times, and is scaled.
the width im interested is the actual width of the object on the stage, not relative to its parent.
e.g. like there is a function "local to global" for objects coordinates
i know i can get objects actual width if i multiply its width * scaleX or scaleY
but does the scaleX and scaleY refer to absolute scaling or scaling relative to objects parent?
if i was to make a flash website is there a way that i could have it scale the width to fit the browser, and scale the height so that it keeps the same aspect ratio and doesn't stretch the contents out of proportion?
View 3 RepliesI have been hacking together two different tutorials to create a menu with changing images, and some animating text. Everything looks great, except the menuitems, which i try to resize dynamically depending on the menuitem-movieclip-contained dynamictext. When i resize this movieclip, the whole movieclip scales, and everything looks odd.
this is my first flash project on my own, so be nice :-)

I've got a container(sprite) with children(sprites) added to it. When I scale the container, I would like to get the new width of a child, but when I trace the children's width I always get the original dimensions, even though everything gets visually scaled as it should. How do I overwrite the children-width ?
Update: I just found out that the children.graphics-"dimensions" could have caused the problem. When I leave the graphics, everything seems ok. Is it possible to scale the graphics at same time as the child-sprite?
Is there any performance difference? I am scaling a 2000 - 4000 wide movieclip, within a 600 wide stage. Does it matter which way I scale it in terms of CPU usage;
myMovieClip.scaleX *= 2;
or
myMovieClip.width *= 2;
The movieclip will be scaled multiple times and to varying sizes.
I have a container object that i add children to. I want to change the height & width of the container without the children scaling. In this case I draw a rectangle in flash which I'll use as the container object then export for AS.

I have a 50x50 fixed rectangle in the center of the stage. I am using this rectangle as a "hit area" to copy pixels of a bitmap that is draged by the user to line up an area of the image he/she would like to crop.I have preview of the hit area displayed while the bm is being dragged which works well. However, once the bitmap is scaled using the slider component the preview area no longer reflects what is in the hit area.
Code below:
function mouseDownHandler(e:MouseEvent):void
{
// Contraint #8 - Define drag bounds[code].....
Sites like The Daily Show (I can't post URLs since I'm a new user, but just go to their front page to see) are doing what I need to do. When you go fullscreen with their video, the bottom video controls and the top social media bar aren't scaled. They adjust themselves in width, but the text and button graphics remain the same size.Now, I've had success with a method where, when the FULLSCREEN event is invoked, I downsize my interface elements by a ratio equal to the difference between my SWF size and the screen size, essentially keeping the interface at a constant size in both modes. However, all text and graphics inside those elements are distorted or blurred when I do this.

I'm making an xml slideshow width 2 navigation arrows. I have loaded either the xml and the images. The problem is this: in the first frame i have a movieclip called "foto1" in which i load the first photo and underneath this i have another movieclip called "foto3". I load the two photos and i fade "foto1" to "foto3". after i'm going to the second frame in wich i have "foto3" and underneath this "foto1". I've loaded "foto3" but when the movie go to the second frame "foto3" contains nothing.
View 1 RepliesOkay, I know this is a stupid question but, if you bring in a jpg or png image and either convert it to a graphic or a movie clip, or just leave it as an image, is there a way to distort the image other than scaling, rotating and skewing it. For example, I want to change the perspective of an image the way I do in photoshop.Let's say the image is a house, in photoshop, you can take the house and make it look like a trapezoid shape, you know, wider at the bottom than at the top Is there a way to do this using flash tools? Envelope distorting, if you break the image apart doesn't really work.
View 1 RepliesI've made a simple portfolio web site which loads a swf file containing the navigation at the top and then the navigation loads individual swf files containing full page images.The problem is the full page images are distorting very slightly when they are loaded in. I've attached two images, the first image (picture2.png) is how looks when I just open the image's swf file, and the second image (picture3.png) is how it looks after its loaded in by the navigation.
View 2 Repliesthis might have been handled somewhere else, I just didn't know how to word this error properly. Type is distorting randomly. This is happening with multiple fonts (and will show up in exports). I'm running Flash CS5 on Snow Leopard.
View 2 RepliesIf the browser page is resized, the guys pictures resizes itself, but does not distort. it maintains the quality of it. how is it done?
View 2 RepliesI need to achieve the image scaling done here (not copying the site, just need that image scaling technique)[url]...
i've got the listeners in place, and have no problem getting images to fit the browser windows. the problem is stopping the distortion, while also making sure at least 1 dimension fits the browser's dimensions (ie no borders appearing along one direction). i don't mind the browser 'cropping' the image.
i used the code for loading an image into a MC and it makes the image look really compressed by changing the colors. i checked the image from where the code is pulling it and its fine.[code]
View 1 RepliesI am loading a jpg into my Flash. When I zoom into the flash in the browser (for example, setting the zoom to 125%) the jpg in the flash starts to distort and pixelate. How do I get Flash to not pixelate the jpg?
View 1 RepliesOn my file I got an external XML(which I can not edit) loaded into my file. I also have a CSS file for text/link styles which works if I use my own xml file with <span> tags. But the external xml I want to use does not have the span tags so the CSS is not applied as expected... My code looks like that, how can I work it out so I can use the span tags?
ActionScript Code:
textfield.htmlText = "<span class='main'>"+"<a href='www.google.com'>"+"My Text"+"</a>"+"</span>"
Also, is it possible instead of the above, to create text link decoration in htmlText without using external CSS?
I've search through all the threads with "scaling" and "resizing" and can't find the solution.
Basically I have a GUI element on a gallery that I don't want to scale, while the rest of the page is free to resize/scale.
I think I need to add a listener of some sort to the stage, but I'm not sure how to do this.
I have one layer with two tween spans, and would like to have a different symbol for each span. However, I cannot seem to do this without adding a keyframe in between the spans: if I have just the two tween spans, and replace the symbol in one, the symbol in the other span is also changed. What am I doing wrong here? (Using CS4)
View 3 RepliesAccording to this webpage, the htmlText property in TextArea can handle CSS text style if using span tag. I want to format multiple tags in my code. Something like:
var tags:TextArea = new TextArea();
tags.htmlText = "<span style='color: rgb(165, 150, -90);
font-size: 0.955882610016677em'>street</span>,[code]............
It only gives me plain text. I was wondering if it is supported in the htmlText property and how do I get around this.
I see listed here all html tags supported [URL]
I can see span but not div ? Is this a mistake ?
I'm building some navigation that extends all the way from left to right across my SWF. When the window resizes, I'd like the nav buttons to get wider but not have the text on the buttons get wider.
The buttons themselves are rectangles with a vertical gradient and a stroke around the outside. I'm using 9-slice scaling so the stroke doesn't scale, but the middle (gradient) gets wider or narrower.What'd be great is to be able to select an object or layer and say "don't scale, even if the rest of this movie clip scales". Is there a way to do that, or will I have to do it via actionscript?
I'm referring to the span of selected frames when in "Edit Multiple Frames" mode.
(I've attached an image of the thing I'm talking about.) When I'm editing multiple frames, the multiple frame span "cursor"(?) always follows me around whenever I select a new frame on the timeline. Is there a way to lock it in place or prevent it from constantly changing whenever a new frame is selected?
I have created a motion tween to fade in a symbol on the stage. I have set a there is a diamond keyframe marker at the point where the alpha of the symbol goes to 100%. I want to be able to drag that marker to a later point on the motion tween span (not sure if I have my terminology right here) but I find that I cannot -- I have to delete the keyframe and recreate it at the point where I want it.
View 1 RepliesI am using the galley template from [uRL]..and after 6 menu titles it spans off screen and i want to know is there a way to span down after 6. Header 1Header 2Header 3Header 4Header 5Header 6Then 6 would be here

is there a way to span the text of a link button to 2 lines? so instead of "Save Page" to be in one line only, I want it to be in 2 lines.
