ActionScript 2.0 :: MySlide Is A Variable Which Stores The Slide Numbers?

If an object, or say... a document class, creates an instance of a class (and stores it as a variable), and it doesn't pass any arguments to the constructor of the class, can that class object, by simply having a function of it called by the parent, tell who sent it that command/request?
In other words, can a class object know who called it (such as it's parent) via a (seemingly) anonymous call?
I'm trying to create a global variable that initially stores a 0. Then via a function will change the value of that global variable, and allow the other functions to access the new number. I have it working where it adds 1 to the variable, and stores the number 1 however, I cannot get the number to add up beyond 1.
I have this in my first layer,frame.
_global.thisSound = 0;
function PlaySound(){
temp = _global.thisSound;
_global.thisSound = eval(temp) + 1;
}
Please note this is the basics of this function, there are other parts to the function for playing sounds, but this is the only part that I'm having the problem
how to do this and not found much, so here goes:
I want to generate a variable number of random numbers less than 16 with no duplicate numbers
Ive posted the fla, and what i'm doing is generating a random number and putting it into an array then using a for loop to cycle through the array for each new random number to check if its already there. if it is, then i want to regenerate that number.
if you test the fla you'll see that all i get in my array is some lovely zero's and i sort of know why this is, but don't know how to stop it.
I am simply trying to start a timer when a dynamic movieclip ("mySlide") has finished playing. Here's my code:
[Code]...
for(i=0; i<16; i++){
var ball+i: ball_mc = new ball_mc();
addChild(ball+i);
[code]......
Basically, I have an input box on a widget that sends information via PHP.
One of the input boxes is phone number. Everyone inputs number as normal, but without the country code.
Is there a way of me taking their normal number from the input box, removing the '0' and adding the country code before sending it (i.e. within a calculation/function/formula).
I am having problems with this if else statement. I have a variable (frame number 30) passing into my swf from another swf. This I know is working correctly.
But - I need to be able to direct to different frame numbers depending on the variable, this is working.
But when I place this code:
[Code]...
Im using a tween engine, and its syntax for use is as follows::
[Code].....
How can I write "_x",100,1,"easeout",0,callback as a string?? I have tried to put "these" around the text. The problem seems to be that "_x" and "easeout" which are effectively strings inside the string! -- but for the tween engine to work - I need to declare that.
I am using currentSlide.gotoNextSlide to change between slides, however I can't make it stop playback on load of each slide.I have a motion tween with I need to NOT play automatically when the slide loads... but no matter how many iterations of stop(), gotoAndStop(), etc I use, nothing will stop the clip from playing when it is loaded!
View 1 RepliesI am trying to write a short AS3 script in CS4 that allows me to step backwards and forwards through an animation. I have a stop button a play button, rewind button and a forward button. The buttons work ok apart from when I hit the rewind button sometimes it jumps to the start of the timeline rather than just step back a frame at a time. When I use the stop button and the timeline stops where it is, the rewind button steps back as required.
But, if the rewind button is clicked first it jumps to the start of the timeline, I know the theory as to why I cant get this to work. I need to know how to increment an integer variable (counter) to increment as the animation players. i.e. the counter variable to match the frame number. Below is the code I have, how to match an integer variable to the current frame and tell me where to insert the line of code on the listing.
var counter = 1;
gotoAndStop(counter);
function setupevents(){
buttonplay.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playbutton);
buttonstop.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stopbutton);
[Code] .....

How could I get a nice tween like this one: [URL] Specifically the now playing slide in and slide out effect.

(in case it was a string vs number issue.) it just stops - it does not go to frame 30. I need this because I need the file to stay on frame 1 if no variable is passed in. Am I doing something obvious wrong? Is there a better way to do this?
I have got the game fully working, although i want to add a couple of features, one of them being more laps to the track itself. At the moment the user can only go around the track once which gives him a lap time and the game finishes. Could someone give me some advice or solution on how to create more laps to this game? I suppose for me to do this i would think i need to create an array the stores the laptimes, and a counter that saves how many times he has crossed the line?

I have the input textfield with instance name vIn, and the variable _vIn. (The textfield is empty.)[code]i have five other variable/textfield pairs were this works ok. I don't get why this pair doesn't work also, my textfields won't accept the subtraction operator, - , even though they're all set to vIn.restrict = "0123456789.-";It doesn't even work in the output textfields were there's no restriction (Negative results are displayed positive)
View 3 RepliesI want to create a game that has a HUD, showing the player's energy, money and the number of days that has passed. In the hud, I have created an editable text, which I assume would be the same as a dynamic text (I recently transitioned to as3). The editable text also has an instance name. As I create number variables, how would I go about having the variable numbers show up inside the editable text?
View 3 RepliesI am creating a flash slide presentation to use as part of an online portfolio. I have created a presentation that so far has three slides, each containing a flv that I imported and added a skin to.Is there any way to stop the movie on slide one (besides manually) when I move to slide two? I don't care if the mvie returns to the begining or not i just want to beable and view the video on slide two without hearing the sound from slide one.
View 5 Repliesthis is what I am trying to do:
1st slide: pre test (3 radio buttons)
2nd slide: video
3rd slide: post test (3 radio buttons) - this page has a submit button that calls a .php script
The Pre Questions are setup like this:[code].....
wondering if this is a Global Variable problem? Is there any reason that the "variables" variable would stop populating after the first slide? Obviously, they are getting to the last slide since the submit button is passing them (or is the external file doing it?), but don't know why the post ones are not going.
In actionscript object class can act as a collection that stores key,value combinations:

I have 3 graphic objects (obj0, obj1, obj2) on the screen which the user may move with the mouse. I need the final locations of the object to be stored and next time the SWF is started, the objects to be placed where the user left them. For this purpose I use Shared Object into which I push all my objects:[code]function saveParameters is called by mouseclick on a button and check point 2 shows all the three _x coordinate correctly which means that the parameters has been wtitten to the disk.However when I restart the SWF, the first check point traces objects_parameters.data.parameters=undefined,undef ined,undefined.I.e. it cirrectly traces number of objects stored (three), but for some reason all these three objects are undefined and their _x and _y are not available.there a way to format AS code code here so that it will look like in my Dreamweaver to be more readable?
View 0 RepliesDoes anyone know where flash stores shared objects in windows vista? I've been looking all over for them and I can't seem to find where it stores them.
View 1 RepliesI'm aware this sounds quite involved, but would it be possible to make a Flash button counter that would store the number of clicks (that it displays) on a remote server; so even if the page was closed and re-opened it would still show "2" or "11" for example. In addition to that, would it be possible to only allow one click per IP address? So for example, one specific IP address (user) couldn't keep clicking it over and over and increasing the number.
The reason I wanted to use a Flash object as opposed to something like jQuery was because I want to embed it on a forum that isn't mine. Obviously I don't have access to the site's files/modules etc. Essentially it's almost like the Facebook "like button." It displays the number of likes, as well is storing the value on a remote server.
I would like to create a main menu and a hud within the application that stores and displays user information. Buttons like sound and main menu options should exist.. Now i cant seem to find any examples of how to create this user interface / hud.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to build a vertical slide scroller based on a tutorial for a horizontal slide scroller and am having difficulties undertanding what values I need to change in the code for the slider mc in order to make it work. The horizontal slider is quite smart and there is additonal functionality attached to it to affect it's movement which I'm not too worried about although it would be nice)
Code:
// set up content_mc info
contentRight = _root.content_mc._x;

I am creating an offline Flash Application which takes the user's photograph and stores it into a designated folder.My problem is how can i Store the photographs WITHOUT using any server side languages. (As its a standalone offline application).I know about the JPEGencoder classes and all.I can't use FileRefrence because it asks the user where he wants to store the image while i want to save the image in a pre-defined folder automatically.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to convert a string having numbers to an integer.
//15 9's are there
var str:String="999999999999999"
var res:Number = new Number(str);
But it is not able to convert correctly as the the var res now has the value 100000000000000000. I know that the number has 52 bits of memory, then why is it not able to do the conversion?
Generate four random numbers with the total of the four numbers equal to100?[code]...
View 8 Repliescreate a function that picks out X amount of numbers from a set of numbers? So if X=3, then i need this function to pick out 3 different numbers from say a set of numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) and then stored it into X number of variables.
In saying that, X will only =2, and =5. So in the first instance, i'll need 2 random numbers from the set above that are not the same numbers, and second instance 5 random numbers from the set above (also no repeats of numbers). Then i need to be able to store those 2 or 5 different random numbers from the set into variables to call them with other functions.
