ActionScript 3.0 :: "Access Of Undefined Property..." Error => But Named The Instance Name Correctly?

Sep 14, 2011

I'm trying to work on my first flash game but I'm already having problems making my character move.I'm currently following this tutorial:However, when I try to test my game, I get an error saying:"Access of undefined property player_mc"In the scene, I have a square MovieClip called "player" and when you select it, in its properties I have given it the instance name "player_mc".However I still get the error. So I decided to change the object's name to "player_mc" as well but that still gives me the error. I don't understand why this isn't working.According to this, it's just to do with spell-checking... but yeah, I looked through my code and the objects and it's all "player_mc".

Actionscript 2.0 :: ID3 Tags Coming Back As Undefined

Apr 15, 2009

I'm working on a simple MP3 player and am having trouble getting ID3 tags to come back as anything other that "undefined" -- on test MP3 files that *do* have ID3 data. What am I doing wrong?

(I'm not a Flash programmer and the following code is hacked together from a variety of sources... reworked for my purposes... and with some bits created by myself.)

Note that the MP3 file to be played comes out of the URL, but in this test case it's manually set to a local file of shedrivesmecrazy.mp3 (Fine Young Cannibals).

When running this file, the following output is generated:

undefined
undefined
NOT AVAILABLE

Code: Select all// Setup sound object
var s:Sound = new Sound();
s.setVolume(75);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing A Named Movieclip In A Movieclip?

Dec 13, 2009

I have created a new instance of a movieclip and named it in as3.

I want to put this in another movieclip. How does this effect the reference because everything seems fine while the dynamic movieclip is just dealing with the stage. As soon as I put it in a movieclip, I get:

Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.  at com::Gallery/instancesOut()

Heres part of my code:

for(var i:int = 0; i < 20; i++){ var transition:mcTransition = new mcTransition();
addChild(transition);  transition.name = "transition_mc" + i;  transition.x = i * 100;

I can reference using the string name but if I put the addchild in a movieclip it errors

Transition_mc.addChild(varTransition);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make A Reference To A Movieclip Instance That Is In Another Movieclip?

Jul 17, 2011

I am trying to make a reference to a movieclip instance that is in another movieclip.

Here's the deal: I have a main timeline for different pages of a website...then within that I make all of the art on each page into a movieclip so I can do animations every time that main timeline frame is called to, yet still keep my main timeline clean.

Within one page's movieclip I have a few buttons that I want to use to go to other pages by referencing them on the main timeline.I have been using this: (home_about is the about us button on my home page, and frame 31 is on the main timeline).

home_about.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame_6);
function fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame_6(event:MouseEvent) :void
{[code].............

Since this home_about is within another movieclip,I get the access of undefined property error. Do I need to change the code I've pasted above or add in variable definitions to fix this?

CS3 Play (reference) MovieClip Instance From Within MovieClip

May 20, 2009

I am trying to create an interactive graphic. Basically, it's three squares layered on top of each other, with a large square in back, a medium square centered in the middle of the large square, and a small square in front centered in the middle of the medium square.

When you roll over the medium square, say, it expands to almost the size of the large square and some text fades in, and the small square on top of it fades away. When you roll off of the medium square, it goes back to it's smaller size, and the small square fades back in.

Currently, I have the actionscript in the movieclip to make the medium square get larger and smaller (and the text fade in), but I need to somehow reference the instance of the small square movieclip to hide it when I roll over the medium movieclip.

My actionscript for the medium square activity, currently:

Code:
stop();
this.onEnterFrame = function(){
if(rewind == true){

[Code]....

how to have this rolling over action get rid of the small square and then bring it back on roll out.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Platform Character - Set The "hero" Movieclip To The Frame Named "nothing" ?

Jul 22, 2010

I am making a platformer and i got two problems with the hero.The hero is controlled with the following script.

code:
onClipEvent (load) {
var ground:MovieClip = _root.ground;
var grav:Number = 0;
var gravity:Number = 2;[code].....

1. I can't seem to figure out how to set the "hero" movieclip to the frame named "nothing" when none of the keys that control the hero are pressed. (so the hero is doing nothing). When the hero stands still, it will still appear like he is walking or jumping (whatever has been done last)How do i tell Flash that something must happen when none of a certain group of keys are pressed?

2.When you jump, the "jump" frame of the hero is shown. But as soon as you move right or left while jumping, the "right" or "left" walk frames are shown. How do i tell flash to not show the "right" or "left" frames after pressing the jump key until the hero lands back on the ground? The instance of the ground is "ground".

ActionScript 2.0 :: Objects - XML - Creating A New Instance Of An Object That Uses An Identical Name To An Older Instance Delete The Previous Instance?

Mar 20, 2009

Does creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting Movieclip Instance Names?

Feb 23, 2010

I am trying to get the instance name that i gave to a dynamically created movieclip the movieclip was created using var zebra_mc:Zebra = new Zebra(); //creating a new instance of the zebra class The movieclip was then added to the stage using a for loop, as it was contained in an array. Each time a movieclip is added to the stage it is then added to another array (existingObjects) I then need to iterate through this array and pull out each objects names. I have tried using existingObjects[i].name, which returns "instance140" and existingObjects[i].toString, which returns functionFunction(){}, very useful. and existingObjects[i] which just returns the object.
