ActionScript 2.0 :: Press The Previous Button To Rewind The Timeline, The Movie Clip Does Not Stop?

I would like to create an image sliding effect using next and previous buttons. For example the sliding images on the homepage here: http:[url]....I know this is not in flash, but that's the effect I'm trying to create using flash.
I followed the help quoted below. However, when I press the Previous button to rewind the timeline, the movie clip does not stop. For example, if I am on image 3 in the slider and press the previous button...instead of going to image 2, it slides all the way back to image 1 without stopping.

1. Convert each image/slide to it's own Movie Clip, so that you can go always go back and adjust them if needed....as well as other useful reasons.
2. You only need 2 layers for now, Actions & Container. On frame1, add a stop action to the frame on your actions layer. Then, place all of your Movie Clips on the stage, on the Container layer. Line them up horizontally, edge-to-edge. Select them all and convert to a Movie Clip named "container".

On the Container layer, Insert A Keyframe > move the Container Movie Clip to the left so that the next slide is now in place on the stage > Right click in between the two Keyframes and choose "Create Motion Tween". You should have the animation from slide 1 to slide 2 now. Repeat this process for 2 -3, 3-4, 4-5 ......(don't worry about the reverse!)
4. We need to create buttons to go to the next and previous slide. Make a new layer called Buttons. Create 2 buttons, one for Next and one for Previous. These can be Movie Clips OR Buttons, just place them on the stage give one an instance name of "next_btn" & "prev_btn" (no quotes) for the other.
5. All that's left is to add some actions to a few frames on the Actions layer.
a) Add a stop action to every frame where the slide will be static (still), you should already have one on the first frame from step 2.
b) Now here's where the magic happens. If we test the movie now, the slides will just play and over. So add this code to the frame 1 on the Actions layer:

i'm trying to write the code for a flash animation which uses different movie clips and buttons.all the movie clips are in the same layer but i've written code to make all but one invisible when the animation loads.
i've then got buttons which are supposed to make the movie clips visible, but then disapear again after the clip has played.i want to be able to press one button to have one clip start playing, but then i want to be able to press another button which stops that movie clip and starts a new one playing.this is what i came up with but it doesn't work

this script is from one of the buttons which is supposed to start the movieclip harmonica and stop violin playing.i've got the same code for violin but the other way round.when i press a button it works fine and plays the clip which then disapears (leaving a default clip which plays all the time visible) but pressing buttons to interrupt the clip and play another one don't work properly. the movie clips don't stop and reset when they are interupted. they kind of pause instead. when i go to play a clip that has previously been interrupted it starts from where it has been paused and not from the beginning
I have two arrows that control an animated movie clip that has words scrolling vertically. When you click on one arrow it plays the movieclip forward, and when you click on the other arrow it plays the movieclip backward. I want you to have to keep clicking on the forward arrow to have it continue animating through the different words. I've place stop actions at the points I want the movieclip to stop animating but when you click the forward or backword button it never stops and just plays through the whole thing. [URL]
I just got Flash CS3. I'm trying to get my main timeline to stop in the begining, on button press to play and at the end stop again. In AS2, you would just put stop(); on the first keyframe and stop(); on the last key frame and program your buttons accordingly.
The stop(); does not work!!!! It's driving me crazy. What am I missing? I've gone through the tutorials in Flash and they don't work either.Also, if you have MovieClip that contains an animation and you don't want the movie clip to be on a continuous loop how do you stop it from playing. In AS2, I would put a stop(); on the last keyframe of the movieclip's animation. This also does not work in AS3.

I created keyframes at every point in the clip that 5 thumbnails are shown so that I can pause it.I was trying to use this code to scroll down from the first set of 5 to the second:

Im making a flash game. And Need to have a menu (sized based on what they click, small medium large) referenced from a movieclip, and variables passed to it. Im using CS4/AS2. Is there a function i can put on my button to create a movie clip at a location?
I am doing a postcard flip and would like to rewind my timeline when a button is released. I tried to modify the complexbutton but didn't really get the effect that I was after.
What I am trying to do 1) when the movie opens, I have an arrow to the right, what I want to happen is, when it is clicked, the movie plays and stops at the last frame, easy enough.
2)When the movie is on the last frame there is another button, and when that one is clicked, I want thee movie to reverse. It can't be that hard, can it?
I'm running FMS 4 Dev on my win XP SP3 machine, also running flash cs5 professional on same machine. I get the server admin screen to come up and it says it's running. I'm using a tut book on FMS and trying to run the first script in the book. It's long but I'll add the script at the bottom so you can see what i'm doing. In the server app folder I placed another folder called vid2 with nothing in it just like the book told me to do. I wrote the script line for line out of the book. When I test my movie it lays out my video window and buttons. It diplays my ugly mug on the screen. when I press the record button it does nothing. when i press the stop button the output window shows me an error of "#1009 can't access properties or methods of a null object". I assume that this is telling me I do not have a net connection.
when I types in the example it had an IP address in the code.How do I know the correct IP addy to my dev server? If I'm doing development and testing on the same machine do I even need to know this? 2) How will what I'm doing now differ from leasing space from an FMS provider?
I have a interactive movie clip with buttons. The problem I have with my movie clip is that whilst the movie is playing and I click the forebtn, it stops the movie. Ideally I would like the movie clip to start playing straight away when I press the fore button.
my program is i can choose several movie to load and the movies are save in an array... For example: i choose movie 1 , 2 and 3. Movie 1 was loaded. After i lick 'next 'button, movie 2 will be show .Beside that,if i click 'previous' button, movie 1 will be show. i facing a problem that my previous button is not back to my previous loaded movie but is trace my choices in arrays backward. The next problem is, my first movie load to the second movie load will be a bit lagging. but the rest 1 is ok.
im trying to navigate through a movie clip and stop at frame labels using individual buttons to call to individual labels while being able to see the on the way to the frame(for a blurred effect).my goal is to jump from point A to point F to point Z and see all the frames in between and visa versa.
I'm trying to make a flash website that has clickable buttons that will play different movie clips. But I dont know how to make it to just play the movie clip with the button you click without playing all the movie clips on the main timeline.
heres my code basically i want it so if i stay rolloed over it keeps reversing, in stead of having to roll off and on, obviously only does one frame at a time.
So i'm trying to rewind a movie clip using AS3. I've tried using an ENTER_FRAME event and, in the function, using gotoAndStop(mymovie.currentFrame - 1) to decrement the frame until it reaches #1, however it seems to play very slowly and choppy, not like when I just use play();
I would like to use the rewind command inside a movie clip, with buttons or movie clips inside on the timeline with motion tween. this is reasonably straight forward.
But when i test the movie the buttons are not selectable as it is covered by the movieclip they are in.
How can i get these buttons to work within the movie clip. here is the code that goes on the first line of the actions layer. ( can be found in the kirupa tutorials).

I am making something like a slot machine and the main number (a movieclip placed in separate layer) moves vertically continuously.I made a button and how do I make the main number movie clip stop moving after pressing the button?Our office has Flash CS3 and all the actionscripts are manually written.
I have a feeling this is a very simple thing to do, but I just can't seem to find an answer by simply googling it.
I have no other actionscript in this whole .fla file except a stop();
I have a button, inside the button I have a movie clip at the OVER location.
That movie clip simply plays 10 frames, and at the last frame I set the action stop();
All I want it to do is stop these 10 frames from looping, while the scene keeps doing what it does. Instead, as soon as the 10th frame inside that movie clip plays, it stops the whole scene.
I'm in the process of designing this site as a portfolio for my art and am in the process of creating and laying out the galleries. My idea was to create movie clip animated buttons that would react to the roll over stuff. I got that part to work the way I wanted it. But now, I can't seem to figure out how to put a "Gotoandplay" type of code on the buttons so that the timeline would jump to the appropriate frame and play. (I put an "on(release) gotoandplay" on it the way I would put it on a button but it never responds. I have a couple of buttons that work fine with a "geturl". so I thought a "gotoandplay" would work fine. If this can be figured out in a way that I can easily use it for all buttons with just the frame number needing alteration, that would be best. After you click the splashpage door jpg, there will be a piece of paper on the floor. That is a button which should trigger the animation that starts at frame 114. When clicked, the page lifts up and spread open to two pages. But it never reacts
But how should I adapt such to control a movieclip called mcGlider from a button on the main timeline.

What I am trying to achieve is have one movie clip containing a button control the timeline of another movie clip.I know how to get a button to control the timeline of it's current movie clip, however, getting a button to control the timeline of a seperate clip seems to evade me.

it says that I have an error:
Symbol 'ribbon_menu', Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 20 1120: Access of undefined property _root.
but_shows is located in a movie clip called Ribbon_menu that is trying to go to and play x fram in a movieclip called mainContainer.
Both Ribbon_menu and mainContainer are located on the root timeline.
I wonder since the button scripting is located in Ribbon_menu and not the main timeline is the _root command confusing itself with the root of the stage, or the stage of the ribbon_menu movieclip!

I've made a very normal animated pop-up menu for my flash website, i now want the items that show up to refer to the main timeline, i'm kinda puzzeled on this one, because i dont want to store all my content inside the movieclip (that was my first solution)
I'm using a movie clip as a button to show content on a page, effectively its like a new page of the website. Problem is, with the script im using for it, once the content is show, the button is still active and if clicked again, will re-load the content. I want a way to effectively disable the button whist the content is shown.
I have a button action not working to control another movie clip timeline. The movie clip timeline I want to control has an instance name but for some reason it's not playing. The button is on a different movie clip timeline. Both movie clips are on Scene 1. I think there is something wrong with my target path?
