ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Random X Position From Array

Mar 8, 2009

I've creating a drag and drop card game in AS 2.0 and need to set the cards randomly in set positions every time the game is played. no two cards can be in the same space, so the taken position needs to be taken out of the array.I am not concerned about the Y value just X . I think this needs to be an array containing the positions. then using slice to remove the value from the array. I'm not sure how to assigned the array position to the movie clip.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Y Position Results In Random Position

Nov 8, 2010

I've run into a new problem, this time with positioning. I've narrowed down the line that's causing it--"block.y = block.y + block.height;" in SetOfBlocks.shiftDown. When I take it out, no problem. But with it in, instead of just dropping each block down by a block height, the affected blocks sometimes move up, and also often move about randomly within the X axis--although their new positions always keep them lined up with the 'grid', which is to say, within multiples of the block height and widths.

ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash 8 Pro] Load Random Array Element And Loop For Random Intervals?

Sep 30, 2006

I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.

While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements. So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Putting Data Into An Array Via XML And Then Selecting At Random An Image String To Load In A Pic At Random

Feb 11, 2009

I've been putting data into an array via XML, and then selecting at random an image string to load in a pic at random. But whilst doing this, I wanted to remove the String from the Array that I have just used, so I don't get repetition of the same image in the output. I initially thought that pop would remove the string I had just used - But of course it Removes the last value in the Array instead, which doesn't really help.

Ok - so how about randomizing the data once inside the Array, after it has been pulled in from XML!? That way I can load in the 'last' image, and then pop it out! Keeping a randomized selection of images each time 'it' is loaded

ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Array Values To Variables In Another Array

Dec 11, 2007

I have some variables created on the main timeline and a mc called options which will be where those variables can be manipulated. A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?

AS3 :: Setting Scroll Position For ScrollPane Component?

May 19, 2009

I ve got a series of frames, each with its own instance of a scrollPane called actionText. When navigating from frame to frame I want the vertical scroll position of actionText to reset to 0.For some reason these separate instances of the component are inheriting scroll positions from one another, for example,if I scroll to 50% in one frame, jump to a new frame with a new instance of actionText, that new instance starts at 50%, not 0.

I should be able to set the scroll position by actionText.vPostion = 0 but I get Position is an undefined property of the object actionText .Roll over either the star one or star twotabs and select any action item, scroll the text down (actually a pdf converted to swf), then navigate to another action item and the new scrollPane does not default to 0. Only stars one and two are coded.[url]......

however, setSelection() is not a valid function of the selection or edit managers.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Setting Boundaries For Mc With Random Movement

Aug 2, 2009

I'm a noob on this forum & pretty desperate now. I've been on a research & trial&error odyssey for days now, but this problem remains unsolved. I am creating a game with an mc (say "target_mc") randomly moving around. Everything is working beautifully, except for one thing: My stage was initially 900x600 and the game took up all of that space. target_mc's movement was accordingly set for a width of 900 and height of 600.

I have now resized the stage height to 958 with the game (still 900x600) being centered vertically. The top border is now at 170.8 (y). The bottom y border is at 770.8. But target_mc still thinks the top border is at 0. As a result, it is still covering the same area as before, hence floating off the actual game area into the stage margin area between 0 and 170.8. As I have other frames following which require my new and larger stage size, going back to the original 900x600 is not an option.

I have tried and tried but not managed to tell target_mc to keep its random movement within <=170.8 and >=770.8. I have tried all variations of "if statements" and other tricks at my disposal. And since I'm not an expert, I'm at my wit's end. Everywhere I looked, the solutions offered were for draggable objects or cursor movements, but not for movieclips moving randomly as soon as the frame is loaded. My script & codes are very, very elaborate and there is a lot happening on the stage, so a mask is not an option for me. Surely there's got to be a way to set variables and commands in the script...? I just don't know which to go for...

Do I work with some kind of math involving the total stage height of 958? I have tried setting variables for xMin, xMax, yMin, yMax, but must have done something wrong in implementing them in the rest of the random motion code cos nothing worked.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Setting Limits For Random # Gen?

Sep 22, 2009

I need to set limits when generating a random number and this (code below) is just a temporary fix until I can set this limit dynamically.

The number is set to be between (0-4) by running an IF statement which sets a fixed upper limit. This works but I need the limit to update dynamically. My main goal is to use the numChildren property of an XMLList object (passed as argument) to set the maximum limit since the random number will be used by a loader when loading an image from this same XMLList.

Currently there are only 5 images in the XML file so this IF statement works. I would like to have the maximum limit update dynamically when the XML file has images added or subtracted to/from it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Random Position MovieClips On Stage Without Overlapping?

Nov 15, 2010

I am creating a memory sequence game and I was wondering:
1. Is there a way to random position movieclips on the stage without having them overlap each other?
2. Is there a way to have flash draw a vector line from one clip to another in sequence and then have the user retrace what flash did? I have 6 movieclips on the stage, each with their own instance (ex. obj1_mc, obj2_mc, etc.). Is there a way to tell flash to always draw a line between movieclips in sequence even though the movieclips are randomly placed on the stage?
