so i need to make a play/pause button on my animation, i can use stop(); to stop the main timeline. i cna use intro.stop(); to stop a movieclip with the instance name intro that is placed on my timeline.

but can I stop every single movieclip (in all different levels) that are in my timeline?

if not, how can i stop movieclipA which is inside movieclipB which is on the main timeline?

I've got a fairly short little animation sequence that the folks here at my work would like to insert into one of our web pages on our site.  It's a demo on how to use one of our products, so I'd like to add a few buttons so the user can pause and then resume the entire movie.  There is absolutely no scripting applied to the FLA right now.
 
I've been working on another project that involves scripting some buttons with AS3, so I have some knowledge, but am still having a lot of difficulty,

I have many nested movieclips  in different positions of the main timeline.

I have 2 buttons, play_btn and pause_btn.

I'd like when the user click pause_btn, the animations on the main timeline and in nested movieclips stop.

Whe he click play_btn the animations resume in both the main timeline and nested movieclips.

I have created array of nested movieclips on the main timeline.

Basically, I have a presentation movie with a few complexities to it.

1. The movie Plays, then waits an interval of time, then resumes (works alright)

2. The movie needs to have a pause button (that will pause the action) and a play button that will resume the action.

My problem: Once I pause and then hit play the play button ignores the "countdown" of setInterval and just "skips" ahead to the next part. I'm putting in a voice over and I really need that interval of time there or stuff will run into each other.

On the first frame (but indicative of the rest):

Is there a way to allow a user to move playhead to any point on the progress bar (including much ahead of the loaded portion of the movie) and resume play from there? Presently a user can skip ahead only as far as the download happened.

My Original Post:I have been designing a visual presentation in Flash CS5, there are a few movie clips on the stage that are set to play at a certain time/frame. The problem I am having is that I am not familiar with coding/actions. I want to have a play and a pause button so I can pause at any point (not a specified frame) and discuss with the audience. I'm making an interactive film. At certain points within the film, the viewer has the ability to select from a few options that will direct them to an external video clip (they are flashback scenes). The main story pauses when the user selects a flashback scene and I'm clear on how to achieve this.

However, my issue is that once the flashback scene ends and the external video closes, I'm not sure how the main story will resume. Is it possible for it to auto-play (resume) in some way? My last resort would be to have the viewer select a play button - this is only because I do not want a break in the narrative and want to limit the amount of clicks the viewer has to make.

I just got Flash CS3. I'm trying to get my main timeline to stop in the begining, on button press to play and at the end stop again. In AS2, you would just put stop(); on the first keyframe and stop(); on the last key frame and program your buttons accordingly.

The stop(); does not work!!!! It's driving me crazy. What am I missing? I've gone through the tutorials in Flash and they don't work either.Also, if you have MovieClip that contains an animation and you don't want the movie clip to be on a continuous loop how do you stop it from playing. In AS2, I would put a stop(); on the last keyframe of the movieclip's animation. This also does not work in AS3.

I have created two buttons for separate audio files. Essentially if you click on the button it will play and stop. This works great! I have also injected a SoundMixer.stopAll(); to ensure if you click between both buttons that it will stop the current audio file to play the next one. My problem is when I select the 2nd button for the first time everything seems to be working...it's when I attempt to click on the first button again, that it will require 2 clicks and then it stops and plays accordingly...anyone know how I could eliminate this annoying two click process?

I want a movie clip (let's call it homecontent_MC) with 100 frames play to frame 80 and stop.Then when someone clicks a button on the navigation bar (home, about, services, contact, etc...) homecontent_MC would then begin playing from it's position (frame 80) til it reaches 100, at which point it wouldn't be on screen, and the movie clip that corresponds to the navigation button press (say services_MC...) would start from frame 1 and continue til it stops at it's frame 80...

I have modified the original to include more head shots accompanied by audio clips. I have worked out the playing of the clips on release. I realize now that people may not want to listen to entire clip. Each mug shot serves as the button to hear the person talk. I do not know how to modify the button code for it to be a toggle. I guess it would need to be some kind of "play if, stop if" The only part of concern is loading playing the the audio, no changes need to be made to the rollover functionality.

Now this adds makes the child movie clip play over and over so I want to stop it right at the beginning, and add eventlisteners to play it. But how can I stop it in the beginning?

I'm making a map editor in flash. For the map area, a dynamic Movieclip will this and that in it will be loaded into a movieclip area, but I realised the problem of how a symbol resizes when a child is too big in the symbol.

I built a custom designed checkBox. The movieclip is in the libary and dragged onto the timeline of my .swf. I'm using CS4 & AS3. I'm using procedural AS3 instead of OO AS3.The checkbox movieclip has a child movieclip inside of it so I can apply a drop shadow filter to some of the graphics .When I put an eventlistener on the custom checkbox it works fine but when I try to reference the checkbox movieclip inside the eventlistener function, the event.target.name is referring to the child movieclip (just a graphic with a drop shadow filter).From my reading it looks like the function propogates down to the child movieclip but I don't want it to do that.How do I reference the parent movieclip? or

B. stop the eventlistener from propogating down to the child movieclip?

I tried using stopPropagation(); but it didn't stop the function event.target.name from trickling down to the child movieclip.Here's what AS3 looks like.The trace statement displays "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc.instance25"instead of what I need "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc"

I have a movieclip (parent).inside that there are many buttons(movieclips). If click on any button the whole movieclip(parent) should rotate and stop at a point. For each button inside parent movieclip there is textbox. While the parent is rotating the text is also rotating, I don't want that effect. I have a parent sprite containing a child named controlBar, whose visibility is initially set to false. When the parent sprite is moused over, controlBar's visibility is set to true, and when the parent sprite is moused out, controlBar's visibility is set to false again, like so:[code]This works fine when mousing over and out of the parent sprite, but then when I mouse over the controlBar, the parent sprite dispatches the MOUSE_OUT and MOUSE_OVER events again, which quickly sets controlBar's visibility to false and then true, and occasionally causes controlBar to flicker.
