ActionScript 2.0 :: Text Fields - Laying Them Out So That Tab Cycles Properly?
Apr 22, 2002
I have a form, with input text fields, and static text labels between each...
like this
(static) name
(input) name
(static) email
(input) email
[code]....
then a submit button. on the right hand side of all of these fields.It seems that when I press tab, instead of cycling from one input text field to the next, and then ending with the highlight on the submit button, it keeps tabing up to the "Address" line of my browser.I'd rather it tabed through each of the text fields.
In an attempt to use a dynamic text field on my page, and passing text to it such as..
question.text = "Sample text here"
..where the instance name of the dynamic text field is "question" ..I found that if I add another text box to the page as static text, but using the same font as the dynamic field, the dynamic field populates incorrectly.If I compile using CS4 it works fine, and if I break apart the static text in CS5 it works fine.I also found if I change the font of the static field to something other than that of the dynamic.. it works fine.However in further testing..if I place a second static text field on the page,the dynamic again breaks even if I use the different font as before.
All of these scenarios work fine in CS4, but in CS5 is causing my dynamic field to change to the same as my static text, or simply mixing letters and otherwise not displaying my dynamic text...I've tested on three systems here all with CS5 ...
my code is not having the desired effect of having labels to the left of the textinput fields*(like in nearly all normal scenarios with forms). The labels are appearing above the textinput fields.Basically what i have is text sitting above the textbox instead of alongside it to the left.[code]
I have an array of images I want to set them out in a grid with some padding. If the total image width + the padding is greater then the stagewidth I want to create a new row.
Has anyone written a class or function to tackle this problem?
When I'm laying out objects on the code, I noticed that I'm having a hard time getting things to stack properly. I know that I need to be dealing with the index property, but I don't know how.
What are some properties, methods etc that can help me easily move around my objects on the stage and visually stack them properly? (Also, can multiple objects have the same index?)
I'm curious, can I have more than one line (different styles) laying over each other, controlled by one mouse event? I hope that's clear....what i'm looking to do is add some depth to the line that is drawn by the user....this seems like it sould be the easiest if it is possible. I've tried duplicating the "line" object but whatever one is last in the script ends up on top by itself.
I have a "Menu" button that goes to a menu page on the timeline when pressed. The stop(); action works great. But... if I hit the same button again, it does not return to the menu item but goes to the next timeline item and displays that page. Repeated "Menu" button hits cycle to the next timeline item. If I got to the "Home" button (first item on the timeline), then it lets me start fresh. No other buttons have this action when pressed repeatably.
How do I keep the cycles active, and also call a function at the end of each cycle/tween? Right now I can remove the soundHammer call back and the tween will continue to cycle, and if I remove the cycle soundHammer is called properly, but obviously it doesn't cycle anymore.
Alright so lets say I have a number of movieclips or text fields or something with instance names test1, test2, test3 and so forth. Now say I want to fill these text fields with text that I have in an array and I want to do this with a loop, how do I do this? What I'm really asking is if there is a way to use a variable in an instance name if you catch my drift.
I'm having trouble with dynamically assigning text to a dynamically created text field.
[Code]...
I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. Neither approach works. I've been digging around on the web, looking for answers, and nothing seems to solve my problem.
I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...
Code:
Code: var timer:Timer = new Timer(100,0);//called every Xms, repeated infinately (0); timer.addEventListener (TimerEvent.TIMER, doNumber); timer.start ();
Basically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.
I can't get the text fields that I am creating dynamically to accept html,I have tried .html = true;Am I really going to have to create my own button and use getURL?I am using flash 8, as2.
I have made a top 10 module for my site that loads variables dynamicly in text fields, it works pretty fine, but i have a problem. The text inside the text fields is scaling on move.I don't want the text inside to scale.Here you have the link:xample of text field creation in my as:
Code: private function createTextField(x:Number, y:Number, width:Number, height:Number):TextField {
I have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.
i am working in a flex application, i have an mx text control or I can use whatever control I need to do display the text value, but what I am trying to accomplish is to be able to format that text value with html 'before' it gets bound to the text control.<mx:Text text="{data.combinedCriteria}" width="99%">In the .as file that manipulates the combinedCriteria property of data,
My homepage contains a flash file that tweens through 4 product images. I want to program my file so that every time the user goes to the homepage, the flash cycles through the four images randomly. I thought the easiest way to so this would be to create four series of image tweens and label each, and then code the first frame of the movie to go to one of the labels at random.
I have a main movie with 2 empty movie clips on the stage. They have the instance names clip1 and clip2. I also have 10 swf files named movie1.swf, movie2.swf, movie3.swf, etc. I want to randomly load any 2 of these swf files into the 2 empty movie clips in the main movie. After the 2 swf files have been loaded, I want one of them to last 20 seconds, and then randomly load a new swf file to replace it. And the other one, after 30 seconds, will randomly load a new swf file to replace itself. And this cycle will go on & on...
I have the following actionscript:
[Code]....
Unfortunately, it isn't working. Is there an error with how I typed this? Or do I need to change something so it will work?
I basically want to load 2 swf files into 2 different targets, have one of them last 20 seconds & then randomly load a new swf, and have the other last 30 seconds & then randomly load a new swf. What is the correct actionscript to achieve this?
fspaiva just posted a thread with a scale script [URL] attached to a movie is attached this script :
[Code]...
when i try this script and watch the CPU monitor of the computer, after hitting one button this movie keeps eating cycles and a lot of it, meaning after the movie has adapted to it's new set scale, so tried if adding an "if" in the script could stop that :
[Code]...
but that doesn't work, the CPU keeps peaking, so my question is, should i worry about these things? if so what to edit to make that more efficient?
I've got a nice bit of code that allows me to dynamically add a dynamic text box to the stage, add text to it and control it's position and formatting:
var txt:TextField = new TextField();txt.text= "feisty";txt.x=50;txt.y=50;var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();format.color = 0x2F55EA;format.font = "Arial";format.size = 18;txt.setTextFormat(format);stage.addChild(txt);
This just makes the word "feisty" appear on the movie.The problem is that I want to create many words with different positions,different starting times, make them go away and then have different words appear. It would look like this:[URL]The swf at the link was created with After Effects and the file size is 1.5 MB - too big for a web banner. I was told I could recreate the whole thing dynamically with actionscript and get file size way down. I've been working through various tutorials with little luck.
I have a list of 100 words, how do I turn the code above into a cloud of words that appear one or two at a time? I assume I will put the words into an array, but then how do I get the code above to cycle through the array and pick up the position and format attributes?
my client reports to me that some of the text is being clipped off in the text fields. I try to recreate the problem on my pc with chrome and firefox, but everything works fine. But he sends me screenshots from his mac with firefox, and sure enough they are being clipped. He claims its only fire-fox, and it is not a factor of window size. so here are the images to show whats going on:
how do i create multiple text fields with different text in it?
i've tried using createTextField() but you can only make 1 textfield if you give it a different instance name everytime you then should be able to make more but they just disappear.
I'm trying to populate a set of dynamic text fields with text using a for() loop and cant seem to get it to work.I have 9 seperate dynamic text boxes each labled picNum0 - picNum8. I want to read a number of pictures from an external file then have those numbers populate 1 through 9 into the text fields.I get the variables loaded in with the correct values but the text fields wont populate.[code]When I trace(curPic) inside the for(){} it outputs: picNum0 - picNum8, so I know that the variables are allocating ok, but dynamic text fields arent populating with the correct numbers.
I just started playing with scripting and here is a question i got. I got 1 button.A movie with containts 3 graphics , graph1 , graph2 , graph3 Each graphic contains a Dynamic Text field. The var of that field within graph1 = text1, graph2 = text2 etc. On release should put the text "test" in each of the textfields and should play the whole movie wich contains the graphics with textfields. this is the code i made
Code: on (release) { set ("_root.movie.graph1.text1", test);
I need to create a navigation scheme with a dynamic list of movieclips that cycles, the user being able to cycle through the list left or right seamlessly.For example, say there are 12 items in the list, and at any given time three of them are to be displayed, with the center one being the focus/selected item. If the user clicks on the center/focus item, it takes them to a page, no trouble. If they click on the one to the left of the focus item, the list slides right, with the clicked one becoming the new center, focus item.
So, now say that the three visible items are 10, 11, and 12 in our array. If the user clicks on number 12, the list will slide left, with number 12 becoming the focus, and the goal would be to have item number 1 become the new, right-most item in the display - thus, the visible three would be 11, 12, 1. If the user then clicked on one, the cycle would continue, making number 1 the focus and the visible items would be 12, 1, 2. This should work seamlessly at both extremes of the list.
So in one instance, I have created a single movieclip that contains all of the items in the list, plus four extra at the end, to allow the appearance of seamlessness; when the user got to the end, the entire clip jumped to the start. This works, more or less, but it's clunky and I need to find a better way.
I am wondering how do we determine when a user "starts" entering text into a dynamic text field. Say a person has entered the wrong information and they get an error. I would like to be able to remove that error message as soon as the person selects the input fields again.
I'm trying to make this guessing game where you have to guess how many times a penguin will bounce off the water surface before it sinks The way I'm planning to do it is kind of like this:
1.[Script telling textbox to add +1] >> 2.[Bounce animation] >> 3.[Script that randomly sends you to point 1, or 4] >> 4.[Ending animation]
Yeah, and right now I'm desperately trying to get that dynamic text field to work ...I've made a button with this code:
(The textbox is called "test") on (release) { test ++; }
And on the first frame of the timeline I've added this:
So, what I'm trying to do can't really be that hard, I still can't get it to work properly...
So, I have two textfields and one button. Whenever I type a set message into one of the textfields and then press the button, I want the other textfield to return another set message. Probably the trickier part: this should work both ways.
