View 5 RepliesI always simply use random() for calculating random numbers, since I read one of 's best. And I like it a lot. Only to generate a float of random numbers I use Math.floor(Math.random()*(max-min+1)) + min
So, this time I had to use both in one script, and I had it checked by a friend who is a way better developer as I am (as far as I'm a developer ).He advised me to leave the random() behind.I replied that there is no reason to, since it sometimes really is a hassle to use "Math.floor(Math.random()*(max-min+1)) + min" when u simply want a random number. "And it's way faster!", I added.
"I know, I know", he said, "but it's deprecated". Why is it deprecated??? It has 2 advantages: it's shorter and it calculates faster. So I don't understand why people at MM put it at the deprecated elements.I will keep using random() for sure... cuz imo both random() and that other code have their advantages.
#include is deprecated in AS3 but import is not really equivalent. In C# there is using which is like import AND PARTIAL CLASS.AS3 needs something equivalent to #include to be able to organize code like partial class so what's the equivalence ?

View 1 RepliesI've recently started working with an application written using Adobe Flex 3. We're using several deprecated functions and unfortunately we can't remove these dependencies.
The documentation says to set -show-deprecated-warnings=false into the Compiler Additional Options. This isn't accepted, but I've found that using -show-deprecation-warnings=false will be accepted by the dialog, but gives an error about declaring the option twice when I try to compile the project.
Ideally, I'd like a way to disable the warning on a case-by-case basis. disable the warnings either per-file, per-project or globally?

It is needed tht it could load infinate coordinates, but i fail to do it. If u change setProperty(auto, _x, kord ) to setProperty(auto, _x, x2 ) , it works, but as u can see only with one coordinate.

I'm trying to do something pretty simple: I am duplicating a movie clip and setting the _x and _y properties of the duplicate. The reason it is driving me up the wall is that the code works if I export for Flash Player 6, but not for anything later, and according to the sites I've read this code should work. I don't want to get into this project (which is big) and find out later that I can't export for such an old player.Here's the code:

I'm having some problems setting _x and _y positions of a movie clip attached (into a clip on a masked layer) using attachMovie. The code should position the clips icon1-8 on the y axis (100 pixels Ipart). The destination movie clip (the one with the actions) resides in a masked layer, I remember reading that there were some problems with masked layers in version 5. (i'm using flash MX). The movie clip is _root.openwindow.files

Is the setProperty method only applicable to remote shared objects and not to local shared objects? The following code works fine:

Where 'web_so' was earlier declared as a remote shared object. When the above line of code is parsed, the bbc website opens in the browser and the trace statement get's printed in the output cosole. However if I were to replace the web_so...code witht the following:

I work with Flash Pro allmost 11 hours per day and every while i get a error which messes up everything. Approximetly i get this after about 2-3 hours withevery project.After i get this error there is no chance to test movies afterwards.I see a fast flash of the loader window but it dissapears so fast i cant even really see if it is loader.

I get "unable to make connection with server or unable to find flv on server" when I try to play the video. But the video and audio files are all in the same directory and the mp3 files play fine. I think I'm having a problem with the setMedia command. Here's the code that loads the video and audio files.

View 3 RepliesI am a high school teacher, attempting to teach a few simple animations in Flash. The only action script students have written is the stop action in the last frame. I have one student, though, who has drawn a snowman and a tree using oval and paintbrush tools. Every time she tries to export as .swf (or pressing Ctrl+Enter) the progress bar stops half-way and sits. She's waited 5 minutes and hasn't had any luck. Her .fla file is only 1 mb so I don't think it's a memory issue. Is there anything else that's keeping her file from being unable to export as .swf? The compressed checkbox is on in the export options.

I have just moved to cs3 (AS3). I am unable to make some programs run. For example I have downloaded the photo viewer from actionscript.org V2/Page1.html but when I run this program, it shows just blank screen nothing else. Even SWF file is showing the same. And it shows the error, "A definition for the document class could not be found in the classpath, so one will be automatically generated in the swf file upon export." While classpath is the same as of .FLA file.
View 3 RepliesThe problem is I have an MC in the library the gets attached to the stage dynamically and when that happens, my FLV doesn't play. I thought perhapse it was a matter of the FLV being loaded under the other MC but I've tried "swapdepths" to move it to the top, and I've tried "removeMovieClip" to get rid of the other clip to show the FLV.
Nothing seems to work. All my trace statments are trigering so I know the function is working properly (except getting the video to play).

I am n00b with the flash. I had a swf and i decomplied it so i got lots of files including actionscripts. However i cant change the actionscripts. The program just doesnt allow me to make a change on it.
I would do it with notepad but there are so many actionscripts i donno which one has the code i need. Its actually very complicated. It made me sick.I just need to change some paths in actionscripts.
Just installed Flash 8 on my mac book pro (os 10 .4.9) but the option to export to .flv from quicktime pro is not coming up in the menu. Does anybody know why this is not appearing. The component is installed but not showing up in quicktimes pull down menu.
