Well basically what I want to do is have my code figure out that a variable has changed value and then call a function to store that value in my class.I have a component with a text box in it that displays a value gotten from either typing in the box or moving a slider. I then need the last value (where they stop sliding or typing) to be stored in my class
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to pass the contents of variable playnoyes to the long line of code below to decide whether or not to autoplay the flash movie, but doing it as I have below, the resultant line of code has the variable in quotes and therefore the code doesn't execute it as expected. My question is, how can I pass the variable so that the resulting line of code doesn't have the quotes around the variable value.

I imagine this would be a fairly simple question to answer. how do I grab the height and width dimensions set for an swf via html embed code? If it's easier to use swfobject I'm happy to do that, it's just that it's for a banner and not all hosts will like to use swfobject.
In my code I use stage.stageWidth a lot, and Firefox is getting upset about it, especially when the swf is being initialised when it is outside the range of the current browser window. When you page down and bring the swf into focus, the dimensions are all upset because stage.stageWidth is returning 0.
I was wondering how you can make variable code within code, for example, normally, you can use this["blabla"+variable]; to make the code say blablavariable. But now i want to make new variables by using this code, within a for loop [using teller1 as the increasing value] this["var ringsegment_mc:Ring_"+teller1+"=new [Ring_"+teller1+"]()"]; which i basically want to have say:var ringsegment_mc:Ring_1=new Ring_1();
but this doesnt work, it doesnt make a variable called ringsegment_mc. why I want to do this, is because i need to make an add child which makes 16 parts, from 16 different movieclips.

I have a flash movie being loaded inside a parent movie. Inside the loaded movie is a variable called lvl, and its refered to as loadedmovie.lvl in the parent movie.
So if i'm wondering what the lvl is in the loaded movie, I just use loadedmovie.lvl to get the variable.
But I want to know when this variable CHANGES. How am I able to detect when this lvl variable changes? Inside the loaded movie, it's been set to change almost every frame in the movie, but I'm not going to call a function inside every frame of that movie to find out when it changes.
how do I detect a variable change and then make it call a function?
I'm using AS3 to get variables from a plain text file. The variables are loaded, and assigned as a variable in Flash.

So basically as you can see here, the gamertag is loaded from a plain text PHP file and converted into a variable. What I need to be able to do is tell whether or not that variable has changed (ex. 1 changed to 2).
So I'm trying to detect if a variable has been changed by a swf loaded into another swf.What I'm doing is when a thumbnail is clicked on the child swf I want it to fire a function on the main swf. I can get the model to trace out when the value was changed inside of the child swf by itself but when i load it into the main swf I can't get the onModelChanged event to fire off.Container swf as

type_elt is not an element name; it might be <single>, <multiple> or something else, determined at runtime. How, given this, can I detect the presence of the opt_out_flag element?
I tried this (where xml refers to the question element):

}
but even in cases without opt_out_flag the above expression returns true. Obviously I'm missing something, but what is it?

Flash CS3, AS 2.0 so I have an XML file containing the number 72, and this script:

The problem is, the variable doesn't carry into my second bit of code. I can add a button and use trace to display the correct variable in the output box, so I know it's getting into Flash. The problem is that it's not applying itself to the second piece of script. Triple checked that the code with by putting in the number manually and using a normal variable, only when I use the XML file as a variable does it refuse to work. I'm very new to Flash so sorry if I've left any important information out, but can anybody shed some light on this?

I am having a big problem with some drag and drop code I am trying to write. Basically I have two lists of draggable components, the components and their symbols. The user has to drag the correct component with its matching symbol on drop area which are labelled.When the user gets the right component in the right drop point it has a counter which keeps track of which single part is in the right place.I am having trouble in making a counter which increases when two matching components are placed correctly and to decrease when either of the components are taken out of their correct place...my problem is that it will decrease when a components is just picked up and dropped back into the correct place.If anyone understands my problem and can have a look at the code below Code fr one drag object (in this case a off switch)

I am being a bit puzzled on figure out how to release temporary identifiers to recycle them.For instances, suppose that I have 2 loops to instantiate dynamic mcs from library like this:

If I run this snippet of code, the compiler will complain and tell that I have a "Duplicate variable definition".I cannot understand why it doesnt complain when it is redefined five times within the first loop, and just complain because the second lop.Anyway, there is a way to release the _mc identifier then I can reuse it? As stupid as my question might sound, i have spent the last 2 weeks reading oop books; but could use some guidance. I have a flash project that is basically a supped up slide show. On the stage i have the following: main_mc (instance name = images_mc) = movieclip which holds "pictures" ui1 (instance name = ui1_mc) = user interface that allows user to draw on picture (when drawing is enabled) ui2 (instance name = ui2_mc) = activates invisible hit areas (buttons) on select pics, when hit area is clicked, we jump to another pic in the main_mc.
I accomplished all of this on the timeline, but am updating the code to OOP. I am having A HELL OF A TIME trying to figure out how to store references to the instances (images_mc etc..), so i can control them from varying class files. I have found it is easy to control the instances from the documentclass, but not from unrelated class files. Example: images_mc.stop(); works in document class; but ovieclip(Parent).images_mc.stop() doesn't seem to work from any class file.(ui2 class file for example);

I've created a simple Flex application to fetch an XML file. I need a Flex variable "id" to grab the "letters" value from the tag in the XML code, then show the id in an Alert window. When I run this code now (with the full code), the Alert box is blank.When I run the application in Flex Debug mode, this is what Flex sees: http:[url]....Below is the Flex and XML code (edited to only show what's not working):

Note the red code, I need to repeat this an unknown amount yet multiple times but with the number on the end of enemy incremented by 1 each time. It starts with 0 as you can see the code just above the red. I heard about for loops using 'i' but im unsure about how to use it.

View 3 RepliesI'm looking for a workaround to the "AdSense does not let you choose only images but no flash" issue. I'm rather a newbie to JS, but is there any way for one script to prevent other scripts embedded in a site from detecting the presence of the flash plugin? Even if it doesn't work with AdSense, it would be nice to know if there's a hack to do this that might work in other settings.By the way, I suppose I wouldn't care if it failed to work on IE or obsolete browser versions.
