ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - How To Store Game Assets

Mar 8, 2012

Is there a way for Flash to store content that will not be deleted with the browser's cache?Imagine a game that runs in the browser but is still heavy enough that you don't want your users to go through downloading assets again every time. Now that LSO obeys browser cache deletion (it does, right?), is there another way? Using Air would work but you'd have to download and install a client, which defeats the purpose of browser games.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Load External Assets Via Flash And XML?

Aug 27, 2006

I have a Flash file that will act as a slideshow, the images change when the sound that is to be played with each image is complete (using

soundX.onSoundComplete).

I have a folder for the sounds and one for the images. I have Flash load those assets via XML. I use XML to organize the order of playing the images /sounds.

[Code]...

My question:

Is there a way to not hard-code the image/sound names in XML and instead use it to organize and pull the assets from their respected folders? My goal is to be able to have Flash and XML working as an automated process and all I have to do is add images w/their respected sound files in their folders and never have to open Flash or XML. The Flash and XML would just automatically populate the slideshow per the number of image and sound files I add.

Flash :: Self Updating Air Application Assets Without Re-downloading Assets Already Downloaded

I want an air application to be able to update the assets it uses, but minimizing the download needed, so only downloading files added since it last updated.I'm thinking this would include a server portion which would zip the needed files based on a version number? Has anyone implemented anything similar / got any thoughts on the best approach to building this sort of system?

Flash :: Flex - Using The Vanilla Preloader To Load Additional Assets?

Jan 27, 2010

I have a Flex application that automatically loads the SWF and it's contents and displays the default progress bar like in all Flex apps. Currently I have a class in the application using a Loader instance to load an external bitmap to be added to the stage/canvas. I'd like to handle the loading of this bitmap in the Flex default preloader and get rid of the Loader instance entirely.

Flash :: Flex - Statically Embedding Of Assets File Weight?

Mar 21, 2012

When embedding assets of any size in the following manner -

[Embed(source="../../assets/Assets.swf", symbol="LargeButton")]
public static const ButtonAsset : Class;

it looks like the resulting SWF size jumps up ~2.8KB (in addition to the size of any assets that are actually embedded).

So I have a few related questions:

Is this because flex_sdk/frameworks/libs/core.swc must be statically linked? Is there any way to get around this restriction, perhaps by cherry picking the necessary files and compiling them to a SWC file?? Note that in the app I am writing file size is critical.

Is there a command/plugin that would allow for the transcompiling of vector graphics (drawn in the Flash Professional Authoring Environment) into raw ActionScript 3 ?

Use cases compelling this feature are improved workflow - would allow designers to draw assets in Flash Professional, compile to an asset SWF, and then be able to embed those assets (versus having to take the time to load them at runtime, or going to the effort myself to write them in ActionScript).

I am looking for information on how to best import assets from Illustrator and Photoshop to get a low file size for the final swf. In particular:I have text that has been effected in Photoshop and a few images that can be brought in from Photoshop or illustrator. Right now I am exporting for web and bringing to Flash. Looks good but file size of end swf too big. I have gotten .fla files before from so-workers that have text or graphics as shape objects rather than images - is that possible and how is it done?

Actionscript 3 :: Load 'symbols' (art Assets) From Fla With FlashDevelop?

Apr 6, 2012

keep in mind I normally use pure as3 and FlashDevelop :)I am really new to this "working with Adobe Flash Professional" thing and I am working with an artist that basically put all the art in a .fla file.I am a veteran pure as3 programmer and I never tried to work with a Fla file(or Flash Pro). I want to work the right easy way and use my classes with the fla to load assets directly.I've tried to find a comprehensive tutorial but had no such luck.Basically I have a bunch of working pure AS3 code in FlashDevelop and a bunch of art assets saved into one .fla file. And my goal is to rasterize (turn into bitmapData) the art assets so I can blit (copyPixel) them whenever I need quickly for good gaming performance. This is a project I am doing to help a friend and I don't have much time to research this by myself so simply pointing me in the right direction to an easy to follow tutorial would be a great start.I tried to read and understand the in-house wiki for FlashDevelop and the instructions there were not clear as far as using Flash Pro 5.5 in conjunction with FlashDevelop.

<image>#1.jpg</image>
<image>#2.jpg</image>
<image>#3.jpg</image>
<asset>#1.gif</asset><asset>#2.gif</asset><asset>#3.gif</asset>

In my opinion no change in the code should be required except for adding loaders for the new items.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloader For Xml File And Stage Assets

Nov 13, 2008

I have a Flash app that shows a map with different regions colored depending on values in an external xml file. I also have a simple preloader that I want to appear until all the elements of the app are ready to be displayed. However, when I use the preloader, the results are the same as if I hadn't use it. My map comes up immediately with no colors, there is a pause, and then the colors come in (as calculated from the data in my xml file). Do I have to have code in my xml loader that tells the user what percent of the file is loaded?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Some Sort Of File As A Container For Assets?

May 20, 2010

This is sort of a repost, but because this thread is in the AS3 section the subject is inherently different because this board doesn't have anything to do with Flex. So, I want to put a bunch of assets within one file (SWF maybe) and load it at runtime. Then I want to be able to access these assets after I've loaded the file.As is visible by my previous thread, I have no idea where to begin, but I know it's "absolutely" possible and obviously very useful.

Even if the loaded file isn't an SWF file, I'm fine with it. I would prefer to be able to store vector graphics in it though, maybe even produced in CS3/4/5 (because that's what my friend's using to draw said graphics).Looking forward to hearing from some of you over here--now that the thread has a more general subject.

Flex :: Move File Assets From Src Into Bin At Compile Time In FDT5

Jan 26, 2012

Flash Builder has a nice feature that will allow you to have it move files such as images, fonts, xml files and so forth into the bin-debug directory an compile time. The reason for doing this would be to mock up some data or test pulling in assets dynamically but having them in source directory so you can version control the assets during development. Typically we don't add the bin directory to version control so being able to have the IDE move files over to bin for you is very helpful if you are on a large team.

Is there a feature within FDT5 that will do this like Flash Builder?

Flash :: Game - All Resources Do Not Completely Load For Different Users

Mar 10, 2010

I am running an online flash multiplayer game. However, I have been facing a problem lately where some users cannot actually completely load all the resources required to run the game. The percentage that users get stuck at is different for different users (for instance, one could get stuck at 43% and some other at 91%). I don't think there is any problem with the files as such because the resources are completely loaded for the majority of the users and the game works just fine for them. Has anyone faced such a problem before?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Save File From Flash Game And External Flash Subgames?

May 4, 2010

how to create save files for flash games. So far, so good. But here's the problem: To improve game loading performance, I was thinking of loading external flash files. Instead of building everything inside the same .fla file, I have one main .fla file, and one or two other .fla files loaded when needed.

The flash I want to load happens to be this mini computer used for puzzle solving and can unlock new applications. And this is my problem: I want to create a save file for the game -and- for this mini computer, which is an external flash file, so it keeps track on many apps have been unlocked. Save the progress from both the main game and the mini-computer. Is it possible? Or is it better to make everything inside the same .fla instead of multiple .flas?

TL;DR: Is it possible to create a save game for a flash game AND its external flash files being loaded in the same game? If so, how can I make it happen?
