Im thinking this is easy but i cant figure it out. See attached file. When the side button is clicked and the user chooses the red or blue button, I want the color name that was chosen to show up and replace the word gray under the side button.The gray Dynamic text box under the side button has an instance name of myCurrentSideColor.

i am not an action script developer nor flash designer, i just want to have a small action script sample that i will edit a little to make it interact with my javascript code. By the way, i want to have a button and a label on a flash form, when the user clicks on this button the onclick event will call another function 'setText for example' this setText() function will change the label text. I'm trying to create a flash animation similar to this one and I want my text box to appear when the mouse is Down. I've created Whitebox and Text Layer but the problem is that they only appear when I make the click then dissapear immediately. How do I make the text box stay on the screen until another button is clicked?

However the mouse click event does not appear to work unless I click a movieClip object I placed in the middle of the screen. Is there a way to make the mouse click event recognize when I click anywhere on the screen?

I'm moving on to my next massive programming project and I'm trying to decide whether I should code it in as 2.0 or 3.0. I came across the new click event model in 3.0. Right now it's looking like a pain in the butt to me. So now I have to make a function and add it as an event listener? what the hell? What's the benefit? I understand stuff like this makes AS a more complete language but it's kinda annoying.

I have screen in which I have a button which sets the clip to lower quality, and I also have to have the mouse event in which when the mouse is clicked (anywhere on the screen), this sends you to a different frame (gotoAndStop). The problem is, when I click on the button, not only it does its function, but the mouse event also does. What I want to do basically is to disable the mouse event while pressing the button.

These give me errors when I try to set an event handler to intercept a CLICK event from them. What type ov event should I be trying to set up to handle if CLICK isn't an option?

next_button.swf is as2 and created with adobe flash cs4. there is a single button inside it.
if i change type of button symbol to movieclip at next_button.fla, there is no problem at passing CLICK event.
i tried to cast next_btn to mx.controls.Button and fl.controls.Button classes, next_btn is becoming null in that case.
by the way button is reacting mouseover and click events properly just doesn't pass it to upper swf.
is there any trick i can do to pass Button events to my container swf?

After that, if without submitting the details, "Second" is clicked then an alert message should come to inform the user that "First is still in progress, do you want to cancel and begin Second operation". Is there an event that is dispatched when a text input gets clicked (i.e. to add text), but not after text has been added, simply when it is clicked? It won't have changed, and text won't have been entered.

If I have say 7 buttons, each containing text that changes color on rollover using the "Up" "Over" and "Down" keyframes in the buttons' timeline. Is there a simple way to get the button's text to change color when clicked, stay that way, and then change back to the original color once one of the other 6 buttons are clicked?
The only thing I can come up with is writing pages of code for each button that changes the color of every other button regardless of whether it was active.
How do I detect the enter key being pressed on my button and fire the click event handler? (For example on a TextInput field there is an 'enter' event).

Not sure if I phrased that correctly. I have about 6 pieces of illustrator outlined text.imported into flash, set as symbols with event listeners and works fine. but i notice I can only click on the outline itself, if i click on the inside of an "o" or "R" it doesnt work.I added white boxes behind each of the symbols and that fixed the problem, but now i want to do a color transform on the symbol (the text only of course), but when I apply the transform, its the background box and the text that have the new color applied, just leaving me a rectangle. I gave the box an alpha of 0, hoping if i didn't affect the alpha in the transform, the pointer would still read the box, but no go, it doesnt even see the box again.
View 4 RepliesOur testing department found that my flash menu sometimes doesnt work after going back to a page by clicking Back button in browser (Firefox).
It happens rarely and randomly, yet still it happens.
i cant see any pattern in its behavior and any reason in it.

i've tested this in every way i could think of,
it gets ROLL_OVER event, but not CLICK event.
ive also tested it with hasEventListener and it always has. its just not triggering function.
BUT clicking anywhere on page outside flash makes it work again.
Question: whose fault is this? Flash? Drupal? Firefox? God?
UPDATE: it looks like its caused by <param name="wmode" value="transparent"/>.
Firefox seem to have problem with that.
