ActionScript 3.0 :: FlashBuilder Will Be Directly Applicable To Flash CSx - Correct?
Apr 20, 2010
I'm heads down working with the FlashBuilder tool which is heavy AS3, and have used Flash CSx for years. My question: I'm assuming my AS3 skills that I develop with FlashBuilder will be directly applicable to Flash CSx, correct? I understand I'll need the context of applying my AS3 code to the Flash objects when working in Flash CSx but for the most part will my AS3 skills carry over from FlashBuilder to Flash CS4/5?
Is the setProperty method only applicable to remote shared objects and not to local shared objects? The following code works fine: Code: web_so.setProperty("web", "someURL"); trace(username_so.data.Name);
Where 'web_so' was earlier declared as a remote shared object. When the above line of code is parsed, the bbc website opens in the browser and the trace statement get's printed in the output cosole. However if I were to replace the web_so...code witht the following: Code: username_so.setProperty("web", "someURL"); trace(username_so.data.Name);
Where 'username_so' was earlier declared as a local shared object. The trace statements prints out fine, but the brower dosent fire up at all. Which makes me wonder if the 'setProperty' method is something unique to remote shared objects, but I dont see the API mentioning that.
I'm trying to get the depths of all the blocks to be at the correct levels at the correct times so that the 3d effect is maintained. I've tried many things, but have had little success. All the instances of the blocks are stored in an array, but since it's adding them in accordance with when they're added to the stage, it doesn't help me locate them to swap depths. Is there a way to arrange them by location on the board?
I have two Flash Builder projects. Let's call them MainWeb and MainAIR. MainWeb defines and includes all of the classes for my application including a runtime loaded module that interfaces with our web services. MainAIR's Source Path references MainWeb/src and includes only two unique parts. The first file is of course the root MXML document. The other file overrides a compiled, runtime module defined in MainWeb called DataStreamer. DataStreamer interfaces with our web services for MainWeb and the alternate version of DataStreamer interfaces with the OS filesystem for MainAIR. This makes a very easy to maintain pair of projects and easy to build both the web version and the AIR version of my application.
It has worked well until I needed to add an instance of mx.controls.Image. Image references SWFLoader and loads resource/content swfs at runtime. Some of those resources have executable code, so I needed to do the following:
When coding in the Flash IDE, i very often use the following procedure to create specialized versions of MovieClip classes:I design my object in the IDE, for example, i add two buttons and give them the instance names "btn1" and "btn2". Then i select them together and convert them to a symbol. I then select Export for ActionScript and give them a classname, let's say "MyClass".Then I go and write a specialized MyClass.as for it, like this:
public class MyClass extends MovieClip{ private var _button1:Button; private var _button2:Button;
[code]....
(ps: i know that i wouldn't have to assign the values to the private variables _button1 and _button2 and instead could directly make calls to btn1, but I like to use only Typesafe variables in my code)
This works very well in Flash IDE. when I create a new instance of MyClass() it will contain all the elements that i positioned in the Flash IDE when defining the Symbol. This is very convenient and straight forward.
Now I want to do the same in FlashBuilder.For this i designed the MyClass Symbol as before in Flash IDE, gave it the classname MyClass and then select the library symbol and export it to MyClass.SWC
In Flash Builder i add MyClass.SWC to the buildpath and I write a MyClass.as with the same code as in the Flash IDE example. but this time, the code won't work. on
_button1 = this["btn1"];
i will get an Error #1069 stating that "btn1" was not defined.So - how to do this properly if developing with Flash Builder? PS: i use the default package in Flash IDE when setting the Classname for the symbol as well as in FlashBuilder for the as file.
As the title says, I would like to know if Flash 8 or any version of flash can access sockets.For instance like winsock does. Using an IP and a port to send packets? I've seen it can connect to databases, but I haven't seen anything with it working with sockets, for instance a P2P chat using only an IP and a port to send an receive messages.
Still learning Flash (using Koolmoves 7.0) but seem to have a grasp...BUT! I am having a serious issue with trying to have a button launch a javascript. Here is my code below:
[Code]....
If anyone wants to see what I WANT it to do please go to [URL] If you click on the "read" the floatbox launches. The pictures just go directly to the page instead of a floatbox
my website is flash-only and i have photo gallery, and if you click on a thumbnail it loads larger image in flash, and then you can click on it and see "Save As..." dialog.. you can find a nice example what i am talking about here [URL] and if you select one photo there is "DOWNLOAD IMAGE" :] it's not my web.
Can Flex objects be referenced and used in AS3 in Flash? I tried to make a Button from the fl.controls but it said Button nolonger exists and I need to use SimpleButton, and that it didn't recognize the package I was refering to, fl.controls. I tried again with the Colorpicker since I thought part of the problem might have been the button, and I thought I had referenced fl.controls incorrectly since I tried to use fl.* the first time, similar to using flash.display.* and flash.events.* It had the same problem, though, and now I'm wondering if it's even possible to use the flex controls directly. I can't imagine why, though; they're a part of the FlashPlayer runtime, so if I'm calling them from Flash or Flex it shouldn't matter, right?
I need to read the contents from the browser's cookie.I tried to use FlashVars to pass the contents from html to flash.However, the contents of the cookie may change after the swf is loaded.So I need to setup a listener to read the cookie directly.
I would like to know if it's possible to capture a users webcam in flash and directly upload it to YouTube without a backend server setup. Or if there are any third party providers that support this service. I see YouTube offers a live streaming API, but it seems it's only available for selected users.
I would like to know if it's possible for flash to stream it's webcam directly to another computer without a flash media server in the middle, I want to build a highly scalable video system which basically logs people into the site, records their ip address and then when someone wants to chat to that person, connect the output from the webcam to the input of the flash video player and vice versa. The idea being that they basically plug together, rather than a huge, expensive, bandwidth hungry server in the middle. Is it possible? I heard that flash can talk binary directly to sockets now, could this be a solution?
I am trying to come up with a solution where I can use some application embedded into the website (assuming something in flash to cover as many platforms as possible) where the user can record videos with sound from a webcam that are streamed across to my server so they can be stored.I don't want to store the captured video & sound on the users computer if that is possible to prevent any issues with space etc.that is just the server side of things and need to find some form of flash app that can capture and send the data to there server from the browser.
If i create a movieclip named player and in this class there is the proprety map (a string) and level(an int); I would like to know if there is a way of modifying these propreties without actionscript when i create an instance of that symbol. For exemple, like you would modify the height and the width of a movieclip in flash(the program, not actionscript), but modify this instance's map and level proprieties instead
Read about saving files directly from flash player 10 recently. If I can pull this off then it will be a life saver with a project I am working on. I read a tutorial on [URL] But i am not able to understand fully what's going on there. For my project I allow users to drag and drop object around the stage and save the the whole thing as an image once they are done.
I'm currently working on an application that allows a user to record a short video from their webcam and upload it to a server.What I'm looking at is that part of the application will allow the user to upload their video to YouTube.I have been looking at the YouTube API.So basically I have 2 questions:Is it possible to do direct upload from flash to YouTube by the user supplying their username & passwords, without having to redirect to the YouTube interface to login then being re-directed backBe able to upload a video from the server (using the URI) as apposed to uploading a binary data file.

What are main diferens between flash ActionScript and Flex actionscript? Why Flash can not compile AS files generated from Flex (with keep-as) directly?I want to compile generated from MXML .AS files using Flash CS5... But it appeares to me I can not... Why?
I'm creating a simple flash navigation using some transparent .gifs. At present i import them then make them instances and use them internally in flash from there... But, is it possible to link the instance to an external gif file on the server so that the image can be change by simply changing the gif file/s instead of having to go back into flash??
I realise it would be easier to just update by importing the new images into flash but it's a client request and as they say 'the customer is always difficult'
Why not have the Adobe Flash CS5 product directly generate mp4 and other formats in addition to SWF?From my chair (as an Adobe Flash CS5 user) it
-Going about using other additional software has direct effect on a software budget. -Costs extra manhours to gather information of how it is done. -Costs extra manhours/user time to process. -Perhaps even increases the likelihood for errors and noise in re-processing already processed files (SWF->{F4V,MOV,MP4}) (F4V->{MP4,MOV},)relative to the original source FLA file?
Just curious, If i nest a movieclip inside of another movieclip, and the nested movieclip is attached to a custom class. And that custom class has a Event.ENTER_FRAME listener. when I destroy the container movieclip, will flash get rid of the event listeners inside of nested movieclip's custom class ?
May seem like a silly question but flash has a tendency of not killing listeners along with the movieclip itself once it is removed from the stage(this is if your apply the movieclip via addChild). and its a hastle when things get too complex. My solution was to create a single loop for all my objects. Now ive come to a point where I am probably going to have to nest some movieclips inside of another so the position of the nested movieclip stays relative. the parent movieclip will be rotating and scaling so I rather nest it. But I got to know how flash handles moveiclips that are nested into a parent movieclip and has enter frame listeners.
I am connecting FMS over RTMP from a firewalled network where RTMP is blocked.Connecting to my FMS server from there takes (a too long) one minute before the Flash client switches from RTMP to encapsulated RTMP into HTTP.Is there any way to by pass this delay or is it a plug-in inner behavior that cannot be short-cut ?
