View 5 RepliesI m using a dynamic text field in my app. I have added one Event.Change Listener on it. When I type into it with the keyboard, the event triggers. But when i set some text in it when user performs some action, like textfieldName.text = "test" then the event does not triggers. In this type of situation where we are not using keyboard, which listener should be added to text field to trigger the change event?

I should add that this text fields starts out on stage as a dynamic text field. In the code above I am changing its type to input, so that might affect things. I am trying to set up the field so that when a user clicks in the text field, a cursor movie clip appears, and the text that was in the field is erased, and that when they leave the text field and click elsewhere, the text is accepted, the textfield converts back to a dynamic field, essentially "locking" the entered text into the field.
I've got an input text and I want to add an event listener when up(or down) arrow is pressed. How can I make this work? input text has it's own -by default- listeners on up and down arrows.
What I want to do is when pressing up arrows focused in the input text to get previous messages and vice versa.
I am using the following code to create the quick word for a translator who is doing a live translation of a chat.

the word is succesfully generated, only problem is, it deletes all the other text in the text box as well. Is there a way of making a keyboard shortcut which just adds that text on the same row I am on? Otherwise I am also happy to settle for a button which generates this text as long as it does not delete the other text in the text box.
I'm attempting to use the ENTER_FRAME event listener in order to change the text value of a field every 60 frames..I have the strings I want rotated out in an array that is being referenced in the if/else statement The movie doesn't even error out, it just doesn't work.

I have about 6 pieces of illustrator outlined text.imported into flash, set as symbols with event listeners and works fine. but i notice I can only click on the outline itself, if i click on the inside of an "o" or "R" it doesnt work.I added white boxes behind each of the symbols and that fixed the problem, but now i want to do a color transform on the symbol (the text only of course), but when I apply the transform, its the background box and the text that have the new color applied, just leaving me a rectangle. I gave the box an alpha of 0, hoping if i didn't affect the alpha in the transform, the pointer would still read the box, but no go, it doesnt even see the box again.

I have what seems to be a simple task, yet I cannot seem to figure it out. I am busy creating a project in ActionScript 3, and while I am fairly fluent in ActionScript 2, I am being stumped a bit here.
I have a simple dynamic text field inside a button object. This text field has the name of txt_title. I have attached event handlers to change the alpha of the buttons when they are hovered over, however I also want to change the value of the text field within the button, when hovered over. I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
is there any event dispatched in HTMLLoader class when any of the input text field is being selected inside the HTML? If yes how to track not onlyt the Event but the input field also?
View 3 Repliesif I have an event listerner (mouse, keyboard, enterframe,....event) that is being triggered, and when it finishes its event, something that is able to detect the finished event listener and fire out another sets of event.
It works more like MOTION_FINISH in TweenEvent, but it is only available for TweenEvent only, what if I want to detect a mousclick, keyboard, enterframe or even touch event?
My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
View 3 RepliesI'm moving on to my next massive programming project and I'm trying to decide whether I should code it in as 2.0 or 3.0. I came across the new click event model in 3.0. Right now it's looking like a pain in the butt to me. So now I have to make a function and add it as an event listener? what the hell? What's the benefit? I understand stuff like this makes AS a more complete language but it's kinda annoying.
View 1 RepliesThis is a very basic question but I can't seem to find an answer. I have a mouse over event and have created the buttons with the mouse overs which is working great. I created the actionscript to go to a specific web page when a user clicks the button. Now, I need to add a label to the mouse over so when someone mouse's over any area of the button, it will show them a particular name for the button.
I am sure that this can be done using actionscript in a mouse event roll over command but I can't figure out what I need to show the text. Here is where I am:

I am doing this inside a module containing viewstacks and their childs.Calling onInit() on creationComplete of module.When I am inside one of the childs of a viewstack of this module and press Enter, it doesnt not invoke the listener function at all (bp inside this does not get hit).

This might be more of a subjective question, but is it generally best practice to have one dedicated method per event-types that you add an event-listener?
Such as:
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onMouseOver);
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, onMouseOut);

And if you had a MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and other relevant MouseEvents event-listeners to watch for, you could even set a switch statement to handle all the various MouseEvent types.
I have these buttons in a movie clip and I would like to have only one event listener for the parent, using event.target to point to the children. I have also tried event.currentTarget, and it didn't work.here is the code that works:

It is only targeting the movie clip, not the buttons inside the movie clip.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..

I'm making a calculator using Flash MX that works the same way as the basic calculator found on windows (not the scientific one). But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.
View 3 RepliesI am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.

I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.
View 11 RepliesI've created a dynamic text field - mediaImportName001 (created , and populated it with the name of a file that I choose to import using a browse button (as3 and AIR).This works fine - I can import the file, and the name appears in the field.
I'd now like to pass the contents of the text field to another text field. But I can't get the contents. If I try to trace the contents of the textField trace("mediaImportName"+thisNum).text - Flash returns "undefined" (even though I'm asking it to trace after the field has been populated).
I use the following code to check that the field really is there and named correctly (the code returns the children):

from above gives me...

yet
trace (["mediaImportName"+thisNum].name);
returns undefined (thisNum represents an increment I use to name multiple clips and text fields, and in this case trace(thisNum); returns 001)
