ActionScript 3.0 :: Get Current Frame Number And Scene?

I want to get the current frame and current scene because I want to be able to return to that same exact scene and frame when I click a button that goes to a different scene. When I click a button that says "Exit" I want to go back to the same spot as before.
I have tried this a dozen different ways and I really am at my wits end.
I have a presentation that works like a powerpoint. Everything is working as it should, except one part. I have a movie clip with an instance named slides, and I want to actively display which frame number you are in this move clip.
I have tried more than one why but I see no reason why this should not work:

It appears to work at first, but does not update when I navigate the slides. It constantly says 1. Before I just added a function to the back and next buttons to frameNum++ and frameNum--, but after I created the Menu I would prefer it to automatically detect what frame it is on.
I feel like such an idiot but after trying endlessly I still haven't managed to come up with a way to display the current frame number of nested movie clip ("ecke1") (in a dynamically created text field).The problem really is that I don't know how to have flash keep updating the variable. Here's my latest attempt:

I have a movieclip placed in the main timeline. Inside that movieclip, there is another movieclip.I need to know the current frame number of the inner movieclip when the animation is playing.And report that current frame number back to the actionscript in the main timeline.
i am making an animation, i have about 8 scenes. for some reason it starts playing the sound from the next scene in the middle of the current scene. why?? i checked movie explorer and the sound is in another scene. does that sound like a flash bug, or just me? it is a big file, could that be it.
I'm working on a friends site - Lorenshaw.net using CS3 and all of the code for the buttons is pointing to the right scenes yet it goes to the wrong scenes. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I also have some stop actions at the end of each scene. For buttons I'm using On release, gotoAndPlay "Scene, frame number"

I'm trying break down a large Flash project into smaller swf's using a Loader :

Some of these swf files are animations which have code that states :
MovieClip(parent).gotoAndStop("frameThree");
The first loader works but I cannot get that swf to move on to the next frame(frameThree) to load the next swf file
Instead I get this message
ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label frameThree not found in scene Scene 1. at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndStop() at New_Inro_fla::MainGuy_1/frame146()[New_Inro_fla.MainGuy_1::frame146:2 ]
I'm getting this error in the OUTPUT window, when I PREVIEW (COMMAND + RETURN) my SWF:
ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label nGallery_btn not found in scene Scene 1. at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndStop() at BrookBrovazMusic004_fla::MainTimeline/pageSelect()

- I just don't like the idea that something's wrong, according to the OUTPUT window anyway.

i am using a movie clip button to open a swf with a loader. hope i m not missing any information/other coding....
I've created a class which simulates an action for example a ball bouncing about a screen thus I'd create it like so:

How would I go about adding this to a loop, in a sense of every frame add another ball till you reach the maximum balls currently after looking in help, google and forums this is all I could find
I have created a new Flash file using A3.It has a menu system which all works, I have included trace code that outputs button pressed.So the next step is when the right button is clicked it takes them to the next scene. Please note I have coded it in AS3. When I compile it returns no error however at run time when I click on the buttomit returns the following error:

I am making an online portfolio and I have created the following scenes:homeaboutontactright now, I have three movie clips on the home screen that I have created into buttons.
on (press) { go to Scene 2, frame 25 ????????????????????? }
What I would like to do is after someone clicks on the button, it should then jump to another scene's specific frame number. So for example when you press the "about" button, the playhead goes to the "about" scene to 25th frame. Same thing for each button

I'm just starting to learn as 3.0, and was having problem understanding the scenes, timeline (stage, root) and movieclips.
Basically now I have two scenes: S1, S2 S1 has one mc: round_mc ; S2 has one mc: rect_mc And I have same set of control buttons: play, stop, prevFrame, nextFrame, prevScene, nextScene, gotoAndStop()
The control buttons worked with the round_mc in S1, but didn't control rect_mc when S2 is playing. Why same set of buttons doesn't work in all scenes. Should I have to assign a variable to detect movieclips on the current scene...
I have four movie clips (.f4v) in 4 frames in a movie with watch buttons.. This movie has them been imported into a main movie container that has next and previous buttons. However if i play a movie then hit next frame, the movie continues to play in the background. I'm looking for a script which "pauses" a scene/frame for a set amount of time, then afterwards moves onto the next scene.I could not find a tutorial specifically on this topic on here or flashkit.
Does anyone know an url where I can get the current time as either a string or a number? Or how do I solve the problem that flash can't create an external time? Or does anybody have a perl-file that they wouldn't mind sharing with me that could do the trick
I need to trace the current level number that I am working on. So say I have 3 swf's loaded onto different levels (_level0, _level1, _level2, _level3), and each has a button, so when I press the button in level1, the number will trace 1, press button in level2, number will be 2, etc.
I have a slider where I check the current value to see if it's within various number ranges. I'm basically running the same comparison over and over for 14 range sets. I'm uploading a bunch of base-64 encoded images via an HTTP post. I'm doing this using the URLLoader.load() function. I've added a ProgressEvent, but it only gets fired for the response...after the upload is complete.
