ActionScript 3.0 :: Grouping Multiple Mc's Inside Another Mc Using Script

I am trying to figure out how to add movieclips into a sub group that group needing to be another movieclip. similar to how it would be if the objects had been drawn inside an already existing movieclip...but using the script.
I have a simple movie of a person - torso, arms, legs, each on a separate layer. I'm adding a walk cycle and use tweens to move the arms and legs. This works fine when I export to an swf. But when I group and try to export to a movieclip, the arms jump way up. This seems like a simple problem of adjusting coordinates, origins, etc. But I'm kind of a newbie, so does someone have a suggestion for me? How do I export to a movieclip and have it playback the same as when exporting to a swf?
I have created a cube using a class and applied rotation using append rotation method. when i create instance of the cube and add a child cube the rotation does not apply for the child.
When I click my map_mc button - I want ALL four MC's to have an alpha of 0. But what I want to know is whether I can have a group name for these 4 MC's. For eg: menubuttons
Im a scrub when it comes to flash (but i gotta start somewhere) and started making a form.I made a validation on the orders email and the orders details.The purpose of the form is to get some information about trips.there are 10 rows with 4 fields.the 4 fields is a date, from, to and time textfield.
i wanna group up and validate these fields so that if you write something in "from" you have to write something in "date", "to" and "time".
I'm new to coding in AS3 and is there way to group a couple of files in order for my to minimize the amount of checking the processor needs to do when running a game. Attached is the code. It works but I plan on adding more walls in the future and that may cause a lot of lag.
How ever I want to be able to do this dynamically.
The usage in the project is to be able to represent any data from a database, with any number of possible groupings on the horizontal and vertical axis.
Could someone offer some guidance on the most efficient structure to get an XML return in order to build these kind's of pivots on the fly. All the examples I have seen are statically defined. What I would like to do is be able to have a structure for a return that could give any level of grouping and data return from a web service call.
The tool I'm building is a reporting tool, so users could drag any DB field into column or row potentially so the key thing is the ability to define and build "any structure" a user would want.
I have a flat data array that comes form a remoteobject, I want to group whatever is to be grouped, but leave single items (the ones with no common data with anything else) alone and without grouping, it's annoying to open each node only to find there's just one item inside, so there was no need to put it inside that group anyway. I can't find any reference and I don't know if getting the hierarchicaldata out of the groupingcollection and then iterate thru it would be any good, sounds like a lot of duplicate work.
Basically I'm making an XML based quiz with three possible answers for each question. The only problem is that I'm having to write the code several times for each possible answer, and I'm sure this can just be condensed down to one or two statements using a loop. Here is the code I'm using:

Array of color id-s represents a 3D Array of values. I've represented each value with a color(Blue is 1, Red is 2 and Green is 3). So for the example the array for the image would be:

Now, I have an array of predefined shapes/objects. I'd like to replace the grouped colors with the shapes that I have. I'd like this to follow the rule of finding the largest shape first and then down to the smallest one.Now let's assume that the L shape is A, the Z shape is B, the third one is C and the last one is D. group items in a DataGrid by an item property, fer example:Say you have a list of products, and the products belong to categories, like, Summer products, Winter products...is there anyway to group products in a DataGrid under separate headers? IE: Winter (all winter products follow) Summer (all summer products follow). I can already order by category, but instead I want to do this:
Do it need to create a DataGrid for categories and nested DataGrids for products per Category? Or is there some built-in way of grouping within a DataGrid?
Tag Team back again! I feel like I'm on the right track here, but I'm lacking some operative vocabulary along with a fundamental understanding of how this might work.
Some background: There's a great Quality Measures Flash app here. I'm not trying to go all out and pull from an XML to load my content - I just want to accomplish something similar, though much simpler, using the items in my library.
I have an advanced datagrid that has a grouping on it. With the items inside of the grouping I have it setup where you double click on an item and it will create a popup that allows the user to edit that entry. The problem that I am having is that I can double click on the group title and the popup is activated with blank information.[code]...
Does anybody tried Dynamic column grouping using Hirarchical/tree data structure in Flex advanced datagrid ? is it possible to create a column header dynamically and so the datagrid column with using certain datafield using dataprovider dat.
lets say I define a function that does a simple trace of the arguments it takes in, now is it possible to have multiple arguments? like sometimes i want to send in a String argument, sometimes a Number, and sometimes an Array.Do I need to create the same function 3 times to accommodate for the 3 different inputs or is there a way I can keep one function but send one of the 3 values.
My project is made from multiple SWF files. I'm able to create .app from the main SWF file. Is it possible to put the related files into the .app directory structure? Where should be placed? Into .app/Contents/Resources/? Would it be possible to access these files using some relative path to this location from the main SWF?
I'm trying to load 3 images to background in a sequence, like 1 second for each one, after a click,but i'm having a problem, i only see the last image but it seems that it loads successfully all the images, it seems that it only loads the images before leaving the function as the event.complete for load says.
It is possible to see the output of the urlrequests in a loop inside a function?

I am having a great problem with getting the buttons inside a movie clip I am trying to tween to work. I can only get one of them to work.I want to add several more inside the clip as well.Here is the code:
i am loading some thumbnails from an xml file into a movieclip using attachMovie() - each thumbnail loaded is in it's own MC inside the 'container' MC. everything works great but i need to be able to scroll the thumbnails b/c the number of thumbnails can change but the space they have to fit into cannot. make sense? if attach them to a scrollpane or a textarea instead of a MC it only shows the last thumnail loaded or iterated in the for loop.

I have multiple movie clips nesting inside each other as I need them to perform different functions. On my main timeline I have a mc called "menu_mc", inside of that I have "menubg_mc" and inside of that I have "drop_mc". I have some code on the "menu_mc" timeline, a tween class to make the menu slide out from the left of the stage. Inside the "drop_mc" timeline I have some tween class code which reveals the drop down menu. Now the slide out menu works fine but because the "drop_mc" is 2 levels deep, it won't play the drop down tween. I know that I need to target this movie clip but my question to you is.. Where do I place the code for "drop_mc" (tween) as obviously it doesn't work being nestled 2 levels deep. I have the following code in the main timeline
Is there any way to use multiple document class inside same fla file,or change document class name dynamically i have 4-5 actionscript 3.0 file,these 4-5 files have codes of a game say level 1, level 2 ,level 3 , level 4 & 5 entirely different from each other.What i need is that when one level finishes, another level document class should be called?
Ok, this is a somewhat complicated issue dealing with SWCs and compilers. I've outlined steps to reproduce the problem below. I'm using the method outlined here to bring in Flash content to my project. I have 15-20 SWCs already, and it's working fine for those assets, the problem is specifically related to Flash's components (ComboBox, RadioButton etc.) If anyone has *any* advice on this, please let me know as we are completely stumped at this point!
The issue we're having involves using multiple external SWC files which contain AS3 components from Flash CS4. When two SWCs are linked to an ActionScript project (using Flash Builder 4 Beta (build 4.0.0)) there are collisions in the referenced classes which cause the most recently published SWC to knock out any duplicate classes in the other SWCs. A simple way to replicate this is as follows:
I am developing a paint board application using flash builder. User can draw some shapes objects(ellipse, circle, rectangle). I want to implement grouping/un grouping feature some like ms-word in my application. I group multiple objects by putting them inside a container(UIComponent). Now i apply resizing to container and it resize well. I am using a free object handler API to apply selection handle over the container. I want to resize and reposition all children with respect to container changed size. Every thing goes well until all children inside container are having rotation = 0. But if there is any child which is having rotation >0 and <0 things goes worse. The child resize but not in a proper manner. I stretch the parent container width and it increase the height of rotated child. Is there any way using Matrix class or something else to transform all children in same direction and same ratio respective to container?
detailed as possible. Took basic Flash classes, but no AS other than searching online, taking a couple Kirupa tutorials, so it's all greek tho recognizably so. I have 10 individual "scenes" currently in one swf file, but would love to break these apart individually, and load each into a "container" swf with a "random" code (so each visit to my site starts differently) which I've located and tested with Kirupa's super "Loading random movies" tutorial. Question is: currently I have active buttons in each scene which advance playhead to the next scene. How can I code these to load another swf into the main "container" file and kill/replace the current swf?
Another tutorial "Transitions between external swfs" suggests "if your buttons are not located on the main timeline, you will have to change the path to the container movieclip" - but doesn't show exactly how to do this, and I have to say I can't figure the "path" out! Another issue I foresee is that I'll need the script to automatically pull in the next swf file when the current one finishes, if the visitor doesn't click the button first... Haven't been able to find this with a few hours searching, though some threads come close.
