ActionScript 3.0 :: Limit Flash Loop To 30s?
Feb 12, 2011
I have a flash banner exactly like this one on a continuous loop. Does anyone know how can I stop the loop at the 30s mark? That's one of the adwords requirements for flash banners.

Anyone out there have a quick/simple solution to stop the embedded Mcl after 3 loops and subsequently return to a new/different frame on the main line, at the end of the Mcl's 3rd loop?

I'll try to be clear and concise:
**Say you have a single-scene 170 frame long movie.
**The first two frames contain a preloader function.
**Following the preloader is a very short introduction.
**Then, the real stuff begins including a background SOUND LOOP that begins at say frame 70.
**Now here's the actual problem: I want the sound loop to only play between frames 70 and 170. Nowhere else, especially not over the preloader if someone happens to restart the movie.
-Which is what happens now. It plays fine the first time, but then the loop just keeps going and going no matter what.

I have a PSD with about 30 layered transparencies. I exported each individual layer as a PNG 24 with the transparent background in tact. I then made identical layers in Flash just like I had in Photoshop, and imported each PNG to it's corresponding layer at which point I converted the graphic to a movie clip for future scripting animations. Once I got to the 24th layer Flash quit recognizing my transparencies and my first Flash layer masked anything else I brought in from layer 24 on....but the layers above remained OK!! I checked and double checked my Photoshop exports and had several Flash "gurus" check my work. Nobody can figure out what is wrong! Is there a limit to the number of PNG tranparencies allowed on seperate layers in a Flash document?

I have a MovieClip that can move up, down, left and right. If the MovieClip hits a wall, the MC bounces, and should not move past the wall--but if you continue to press either your up, down, left or right key, and don't let go--the MovieClip will go past the wall. I'm trying to figure out a way, to stop that from happening.link of movement

When I import a block of text with a link in it (and render as htmlText in flash)... does flash limit the size of the URL?It seems to be doing that on a file of mine. I load in the txt file, with for example this in it:URL...It cuts it off way before the end of it (there are no special characters involved).

but i've just been learning what i can from the net. anyway, a friend of mine bought a flash website template off the net and gave it to me to modify for his wife's business (it's a spa). so i've got it all done and they are wanting to upload it onto the server for the grand opening this weekend, (even though i haven't been paid for doing the work yet).so i was wondering if there was some sort of actionscript i could insert so that the website will only play for a specific time (lets say from 5:00pm on 4/31/09 thru the weekend, to say... 6:00am on 5/3/09.
it would be extremely nice if one of you Geniuses could maybe even help out with the script

I created a "movie" that is basically just several sentances fading in and out. I'd like it to stop eventually, so it's not annoying. I know with animated gifs you can tell it to "play" 5 times (or however many times you want). Is there a way to do this in Flash? Or would it be something I set on my html page?

I am not a Flash user and would like some information as a client. I have some problems with my service provider and wanted to verify his claims regarding the software.
1. Is there a stage size limit to flash SC3 and what is it?
2. Is it possible that the software crashes because of the data added to it (pictures and vectors)? Or dose the crash is happening from insufficient computer resources?
3. Dose a 1027X768 stage require a substantial amount of computer resources? And is a 4 year old 17" mac book pro might crash repeatedly if such data is applied to it? I understand that these are not the general questions asked in this forum

I have a flash cs3 file where I want a mask to move on the y axis (up and down) when the user is scrolling over the navigation area.
In my code, I have:
maskMC.startdrag();
How do I limit the area where the mask will move, then make it return it back to it's original position when the user moves away from the specific area (in this case the navigation).

Can I set a maximum percentage of CPU resources a specific program or process can use? I want to use the executable name instead of its pid, because I would like certain executables to always run with constrained resources.
The reason I ask for that is that I am bored of the way Shockwave Flash behaves. It is not possible that to draw a few stupid things in my browser it takes 50%, 80%, 99% of my dual core CPU!
MacBook Pro 2009 -
MacOS X 10.6.4 -
Chrome 6.0 -
Firefox
P.S.: Now, when my fan starts running I now the reason and I know how to temporarily fix it: I kill Shockwave Flash and everything is back as normal.

I have a Flash game I made way back in 2008. It runs super fast these days. Way too fast in fact. I have it set to 60fps in FlashDevelop, but I think that is just limiting the amount of draw calls. I think my logic is executing well past 60 times a second these days. I haven't done ActionScript in a while, but I noticed that I am using an enterFrameHandler that executes my logic loop. It seems to have no constraint set on it. It just fires away as it is called I believe. Is there any way I can cap it at 30 or 60fps?
UPDATE:As some ActionScript knowledge is coming back to me I just thought of something. Isn't the enterFrameHandler bound by what the fps is set to in Flash or FlashDevelop under project properties?

Does it mean only a total of 8 float values can be passed per vertices's set of data? Does this mean you can only have one of the following?
2 inputs of FLOAT_4.
4 inputs of FLOAT_2.
8 inputs of FLOAT_1.
Any mixture that will add up to a total of 8 float values? Is this the case? Because if it is, it's really misleading in their documentation to say 8 inputs can be used. Maybe I'm having trouble because I haven't formatted my data correctly, but I'm trying to use 9 floats per vertices, as in:

Does anyone know what the character limit for a string in AS3 is? I'm generating a rather large XML string in a flash app which I'm sending to a php script to parse and save to a DB. I was stepping through the code and it looks like after a certain period that my XML string is going to blank. I'm assuming that this is because it's going over a limit. I don't really want to change my design but I suppose I'm going to have to if this won't work.

Can anyone clarify the limitation of 500 connections on the Flash Media Interactive Server 4.5?
I'm told you can only have up to 500 simultaneous connections, but I'm wondering if that applies to rtmp connections, or just to rtmfp connections.

I'm building a website for a client that includes testing videos which need to have a limit on how many times the test taker can click the play/pause/scrub buttons (with a counter to let them know how many clicks they have left).
To the best of my knowledge they don't have the original flash project of the current player they're using (which does have that feature, but needs to be redesigned), and I'd rather build it with AS3 anyway.
I'm hoping to just alter one of the existing player component skins like Minima and add a box to display the click count, but I honestly don't know how to alter the component itself to keep track of the clicks and disable the buttons when they reach a specified number.

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to limit the bandwidth or screen refresh rate that a flash movie uses? I have a large number of virtual desktops which use RDP and flash performance is terrible.
If I look at a site in IE that use lots of flash, my RDP session can even hang sometimes or more likely become completely unusable.

Is there some built-in limit to the rate at which flash.net.Socket can transfer data? When downloading from a server on localhost, I get a speed of about 5.8 MB/s consistently, while downloading directly from the server (outside of Flash Player) I can over 100 MB/s. Also, if I start two or more concurrent downloads, they all (individually) go at about the same 5.8 MB/s. The CPU use is under 100%. This program demonstrates the phenomenon. Running with NUM_DOWNLOADS = 1, I get

I am working with the open source flash player at [URL].. and I am trying to figure out how to limit one sound file at a time. I know this has been done on a number of sites but I am unsure how to approach it.
Scenario: A page has five different instances of the flash player. The user is litening to one song but clicks on another to listen to it.Goal: The first audio file automatically stops while the second starts playing instead of both playing at the same time.
Do I need to have some sort of javascript handler than interacts with the swf or something?

From the Flash player specification, it supported up to 15/16 or 32 sounds in a buffer, which mean any more sounds is load beyond that limit will either caused buffer stop working.
Is there any class to override to increase sounds to 1024 or greater?

I'm loading and displaying a large image say 6000 x 6000 px using an image tag. I wanted to take a snapshot of the image. But the maximum limit I get is 2880 px dimensions using Flex 4, flash player 10. Didn't the limit of FP 10 increased to 4096 px? Then why am I getting 2880? Is there a way to increase that size.
