var manydots:Array = new Array ();
for (var i=0; i<10; i++)
{
var newDot:dot = new dot ;
manydots.push(newDot);
}
var indices:Array = [0,1,5,8,4]

i want to use AddChild to add those movieclips into my scene, but not all of them, only selected indices contained in my 2nd array

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Multiple Indexes In An Array?

Jun 2, 2010

I don't seem to be able to find some info regarding this problem of mine anywhere...I would like to be able to access multiple values in an array.Let say I have an array with the index values 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.These values will in reality be posts of htmltext for a news section - contained in an external xml-file.I would like to access these "values" like so:0, 1, 2 and then if you click a forward button the next three indexes 3, 4, 5 & so on. There will also be a back button with reverse functionality. I'm guessing a for loop?This loads the correct indexes the 1:st time.[code]...

But my problem is when clicking the buttons - how do I add and subtract from the var i? The problem is also when reaching the end & there might be just a single post or so instead of 3 - how can all of this be solved? Or does anyone now of a tutorial similar to my problem. I've found some tutorials but they only deal with one post at a time...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Matching An Array To XML

Nov 30, 2009

I'm developing a flash application, and one of the things it has to do is take some user input, compare it to a number of possible matches in an XML file, and return the closest match. At the moment, I'm putting the user input into an array, looping through it, then looping through the XML and keeping track of how many nodes match in a separate array.That all sounds very confusing so here's an example:

The XML is structured like this:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash 6 Importing Data Into Array And Matching It To Case Switch?

Feb 3, 2011

A quick review of the project, I am importing information from an xml file into an array. From there I have passed the information from the array to a variable.I find it that when I try to match the variable to a string letter, that it is not running through the case switch properly and going straight to the default bit. I have tried numerous solution to check where the problem lies;I have trace the actual position of the array to check if it is the correct letter I am trying to match.Did a length check on the variable that it is only 1, and not containing any spacesWhen I hardcode the letter into the variable, the case works perfectly.Any idea on why this is happening would greatly be apreciated. I have pasted a sample of the code below;

var switchTest = initialSlide_array[1];
switch (switchTest) { //switch case used to check template type
case "A":

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Matching Items In An Array To Movie Clip Labels?

Feb 6, 2012

I have an array that holds a list of items. In a movie clip, I have that same list as the frame labels. I'm using a for loop to iterate through the array and then assigning event listeners so that when you roll over an icon, it sends the movie clip to the right frame label (matching the item in the array).

However, the code I have now only returns the first match and not any of the others. Here's my code:

Code:
for (var j:uint = 0; j<interiorCallouts.length; j++) {
featureTextArray[j].text = interiorCallouts[j];
featureArray.length = interiorCallouts.length;

[Code]....

See the showCallout function. I'm using the interiorCallouts array to match the frame label in the callouts_mc, but I'm only getting the first match. None of the others.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Comparing And Matching Bitmaps Against An Array Of Saved Bitmaps

Jul 31, 2009

I'm trying to figure out the best way to compare a single bitmap against perhaps an array of saved bitmaps to see how close of a match it may be to any one of the bitmaps stored in the array. Right now I'm running a for loop that uses the bitmapData.compare() method to try to compare to see how much of a variance there is but... to be honest I'm at a loss as to how to use the resulting data to do so. Does anyone know of any good method to accomplish what I am trying to do? Forget looking at my code it's a waste of time because simply, it's not working.

Arrays :: Count Only Set Indexes Using Loops

May 19, 2011

In PHP you can do something like this:
Array1 = 0,0,3,6,6,6,7,8,8,9

Then loop through Array1 and set the keys of Array2
Array2[0] = true;
Array2[3] = true;
Array2[6] = true;
Array2[7] = true;
Array2[8] = true;
Array2[9] = true;
Array2.count = 6;

But doing a similar thing in AS3 would result in a count of 10 (true,,,, true,,,, true, true, true, true) as all of the keys that are not set are counted. Is there a way of doing this without using any more loops? or Functions, simplicity and efficiently are important here.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sorting Multiple Arrays At Different Indexes?

I just have another really quick question about Arrays, this time about Sorting them. I have just re- written my code to work for matching values from 2 arrays and then adding them to the screen.

however it seems as my matching is way off, it matches the items that are at the same index, which is not always the case

The output for the matches, which should be side by sideis as follows (which is incorrect) Therfore i am trying to find values at diffrent index levels

I tried to sort the Array, but it seems as though the array, cannot be sorted the way i want it. I simply wanted to sort it Acending, but changing it to lowecase would not do what i needed it to do.

This is the code, matchInfo function should do all the work

ActionScript 3.0 :: Control Mouse Click Events In A Multi-dimensional Array?

Jun 13, 2011

I have a question regarding the use of mouse clicks events in a multi-dimensional array (or a "2D" array as we refer to them in Java and C++).

Background

I have an array of objects each with a corresponding mouse click event. Each object is stored at a location ranging from [0][0] to [5][8] (hence a 9 x 6 grid) and has the specific column and row number associated with it as well (i.e. tile [2][4] has a row number of 2 and a column number of 4, even though it is on the third row, fifth column). Upon each mouse click, the tile that is selected is stored in a temporary array. The array is cleared if a tile is clicked that does not share a column or row value equal to, minus or plus 1 with the currently targeted tile (i.e. clicking tile [1][1] will clear the array if there aren't any tiles stored that have the row/column number

[0][0], [0][1], [0][2],
[1][0], [1][1], [1][2],
[2][0], [2][1], [2][2]

or any contiguous column/row with another tile stored in the array, meaning that the newly clicked tile only needs to be sharing a border with one of the tiles in the temp array but not necessarily with the last tile stored).

Question

What is a clean, tidy way of programming this in AS3? Here are a couple portions of my code (although the mouse click event isn't finished/working correctly):

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mixing Stage Mouse Events And Children Events?

Sep 30, 2009

I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.

I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).

I plan to match images. But.. I was planning to have a sort of "Compatibility" match-up game, like,..let's say we have two batteries, one has a 50v capacity(how do u measure batteries?) then the other has a 100v capacity, then there's this battery slot that only accepts a 50v battery, then you will have to match this 50v battery to that battery slot, that's my concept for the game, sir. I hope you got what i said, sir. :D

Actionscript :: Matching Traces Don't Actually Match

for (var i:Number = 0; i < m_InputFieldsArray.length; i++)

trace("Get Focus: " + Selection.getFocus());

the first group traces the same, but apparently they do not match. Selection.getFocus() returns a string, while the array index is tracing the text field object. if i add toString() to the text field object it will trace as [Object object] how can i accomplish a match?

The code below is how I randomise the hidden amounts via a button.

The random amounts are hidden behind a button, when clicked reveals that amout.
