ActionScript 3.0 :: Mouse Click Necessary To Use Keyboard Controls After Changing Frames?
Oct 14, 2010
I have a 4 frame game that moves from frame to frame depending on what the player does.On the first frame, I have an intro and a button to get to the main portion of the game, frame 2. The frame loads up and the game code runs, but until the player clicks again on the stage, the keyboard controls do not function.The code for the button is straight forward. I have a button object and the following code in the frame:
playGame.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, goodLuck); function goodLuck(evt:MouseEvent): void { gotoAndPlay(2); removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, goodLuck); }

After Apple released Safari 5, it seems that even after you focus on the Flash (by clicking on it), Safari still recognizes those commands for itself. One annoying problem is than when I am editing in text field, Safari will go to the previous page upon pressing backspace. Is it possible to overcome the problem by any AS3 code?

So I'm trying my hand at writing my first tower defense game and I've discovered a snag. One part of the game involves keyboard input, but if I click on an object to create a tower, then the keyboard stops responding until I click on the background. My keyboard listeners are attached to the stage and the object being clicked is a button in a MovieClip added to the game's MovieClip.

I have a key.addlistener setup to listen to key events. What I want to be able to do is to dispatch key events by for example a mouse click or just on load. I've tried a lot of possible solutions such as dispatchEvent with type as "onKeyDown" and "keyDown" etc.... but key listener simply do not treat it as a keyboard event.
Code:
var eventObj = new Object();
eventObj.type = "keyDown";
eventObj.code = 13;
eventObj.ascii = 'e';
dispatchEvent(eventObj);

I know this can't be to hard too achieve, but my actionscript skills aren't quite up to it yet.
- I have 5 frames within a MC.
- In this MC there is text saying "center", "left", "right", "up", "down" on each frame.
- All I want to be able to do is make the MC change to frame 3 "right" when my mouse moves to the right of the MC.
I know the script below is wrong, but would it go something like, this. Would I have to use angle and math or is there a simpler way to achieve this?
onClipEvent (mouseMove)
get x position
get y position[code]......

I am making the board game Shogi in actionscript 2 and I have a question on how to detect a particular imput.I have a movie clip on the stage, I want it so that if I hold down the keyboard button "p" and then click on the movie clip, it will go to the movie clip's frame 2 (not the entire flash project's frame 2, just the particular icon's frame 2. I need this because I am using movie clips as game pieces and in Shogi, certain game pieces can be promoted. I also was wondering how to detect what frame it is on.

I have a movieclip on my stage, within this movieclip there are two frames, frame 1 shows a sun, frame 2 shows a moon. The way i determine which is shown at the moment is by using the getTime function. Quite nifty as it displays the sun in the day and the moon at the night.However i wish to demo this to my client (without sitting there at midnight to witness the change ).So i want to be able to quickly show them what it does, just by clicking the moon, but this isn't working, im guessing the getTime if statement is overriding my measly mouseClick authority.

I'm trying to learn a simple way to code a button's color to change when you click on the button itself. I got the button's alpha to work by doing the following: Create a text field with the word "Preflight" and convert it to a button. Drag the button onto the stage and give it an instance name of "Preflight1". On the first frame of the timeline, insert the following code:
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
Preflight1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Preflight1Click);
[Code].....
Now when you test the movie, anytime you click the button "Preflight" the button's alpha drops (dims) by 10%. Works perfect and easy. Now, how can I do this exact same thing with the button's color? When you click the button, its color changes to some new color? I've tried colorTransform, but no luck.

I am using a flash swf from the website[url]...where it allows me to upload images via an xml file to the flash movie. However the flash movie is changing the mouse cursor to hand-cursor when passing the mouse on it, and also it is allowing users to click on the movie, while I wanted to leave the mouse cursor to remain as an arrow, and prevent users from clicking on it, I tried the following code, whereby I used another flash movie to call the dewslider swf, but in IE it is not working, although in firefox it is ok..[code]...

i have a question to ask about asynchronous key controls This was what i did
[Code]...
and i checked with [URL]...?newspage=6249 and it looked more or less the same, so why is it that when i move my character and when i hold down a key, it just keeps on listerning to that keypress event listener, instead of just executing the other event. So say, i tap left and after which i tap right, it will work just fine, but if i hold left and tap right, the event listerner will still be listening to the left key. So, i was wondering could anyone point me in a direction as to how should i make my code stop listening to an event as soon as another event has been dispatched?

In Flash CS5 (Mac OS). Window menu... right at the bottom it lists the windows you've got open with a number in front ie:
1 project.fla
2 class.as
3 interface.as
Now... if I click (with the mouse) to focus (activate) the window menu and press a number key corresponding to a window in the list, Flash kindly takes me to that window. Q: What is the 100% keyboard shortcut way to do this? I've had a go at wading in and just pressing keys... as my last-but-one strategy for finding this out. My last strategy being "ask".

I am developing a simple galaga clone for my site, its at [URL] . You will notice the controls work fine in firefox, opera, safari, chrome, etc. However, in IE, the controls are only triggered if the mouse cursor is hovering directly over the player ship.
The playership object is created in the main document class which passes a reference to the stage to the playership class.
private var ourShip:playerShip = new playerShip(stage, ourHUD);
Which is then added to the stage from within the document class (gameMain)
stage.addChild(ourShip);
The playership class then monitors the mouseX and reacts accordingly. The code for the ship controls which are linked to the enter_frame eventhandler is
Code:
public function controlShip(e:Event):void {
var a1 = stageRef.mouseY - e.target.y;
var b1 = stageRef.mouseX - e.target.x;
var radians1 = Math.atan2(a1,b1);
[Code]....

i am trying to set up a movie in as3/cs5 that works as follows:on the stage there are 3 (maybe 4) movieclips - that are divided into 6 areas.the movieclips themselves have some parallax effect on them (see attached .zip).what i am trying to do is add some script into the movie to do the follow things - first one is that when the mouse goes to the furthest edge of the browser/movie stage - the movie slides to the next/previous section of the movieclip - or rather moves the movieclips to show that section.the other thing is to add buttons to slide the mc's to the corresponding sections.so on the stage there are 4 mc's (divided into sections) if the mouse goes very far left or very far right - the mc's slide across to the next or last section/s - and if the buttons are clicked the movie will slide to a define position on the stage.does anyone know how this can be done? i've been looking for source or tuts but with no joy! I'm trying to make a faux 3D rotation animation where if the user mouses to the right the object rotates right and if the user mouses to the left the object rotates left. Depending on how far they move the mouse the rotation should speed up or slow down.I spent a lot of time making an object in 3d studio max and importing the animation of rotation as JPEGs onto the timeline. I figured the most efficient way to go about this would be to make the mouse control the timeline instead of the object itself.

i've created a mc and inside that i have a dynamic text field, named 'inside'. Iside the mc i've created three key frames, first frame is untouched, second frame, i've changed the color of my text to red, and in the third i've changed the color to yellow. Now i have i awful blinking mc.I'm trying to change the text of my text field. I'm guessing that for every key frame i create i get a new instance of my text field, so i should change the text in every frame of the mc. So i've tried:
mc.inside.text = "test";
mc.gotoAndStop(2);
mc.inside.text = "test";[code]....
well i know that the text changes in the current frame, but as soon as it goes to the next frame the text changes back to its original.

I have created an animation where I have pictures and text accompanying the pictures sliding in and out. However, I want to change the font of the text across the entire animation. What is the easiest way to do this? I have found when I have tried it, (changing the font in the text box) that sometimes it throws the whole animation out for each key frame that has that text (if this makes any sense). In other words, suppose I change the font in keyframe 1, the change it at the next keyframe, sometimes the second keyframe is no longer consistent with the first, perhaps only slightly and therefore the animation can run a bit choppy as it goes from keyframe to keyframe.
