Trying to create (and learn) an effect I see often where a series of photos (side-by-side) will scroll across and when your mouse draws nearer to the centerpoint it slows down enough to be able to click on it.

I know it is a flash player, but would this involve accessing the YouTube API or something else? View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make a faux 3D rotation animation where if the user mouses to the right the object rotates right and if the user mouses to the left the object rotates left. Depending on how far they move the mouse the rotation should speed up or slow down.I spent a lot of time making an object in 3d studio max and importing the animation of rotation as JPEGs onto the timeline. I figured the most efficient way to go about this would be to make the mouse control the timeline instead of the object itself.

How can i detect mouse speed with AS 3.0, and then put speed limit? Also can i use speed var for anything else? *sorry for my bad English, i live in non-english-speaking country*

I have a movie clip button called play_mc and when the user clicks on it I would like the timeline to stop and the play_mc state to change to frame two. Then when the user clicks on it again, I would like the timeline to start again and the play_mc to go to frame 1.

I want to control some movieclips animation using a slider. I have this code for a custom slider, but I don't know how to link the track of the slider with each movieclip timeline.

I have a flash document with 5 keyframes, each of these has a 'Label', which I then reference in actionscript like so:

That all works fine, and I'm happy with that. Now, at the third 'Label' I have some text on a blackboard with left and right arrows at the bottom, so i changed the blackboard to a movieclip, went into the timeline of the blackboard's movie clip and added this AS:

And my slideshow advances one page, but then all the controls lock up and I cant advance or return anymore? The main navigation through my primary time line still functions at all points.
Background: I have a slider / scrubber that works well and controls the timeline of a movieclip both forward and backward.Lets say I have a movieclip of a lightbulb onstage that starts in a turned off state. When the movieclip plays through normally I have frame based actionscript to toggle a lightbulb movieclip to _on.

Is there a way to conrtol the flash timeline with an external html file? For example, if i loaded in a textfield formatted as html, can i get the <a> tags to , (...say) _root.gotoAndPlay (33)
does this need to be in javascript, php, or xml?
I'm looking to build a basic menu in XML where I can add and remove buttons from the xml file and control the buttons to gotoAndPlay a frame label in Flash. With my project I will be frequently adding/removing buttons and/or changing the button name so I'd like to do this externally with an XML file.

View 2 RepliesI am developing a simple galaga clone for my site, its at [URL] . You will notice the controls work fine in firefox, opera, safari, chrome, etc. However, in IE, the controls are only triggered if the mouse cursor is hovering directly over the player ship.
The playership object is created in the main document class which passes a reference to the stage to the playership class.

The playership class then monitors the mouseX and reacts accordingly. The code for the ship controls which are linked to the enter_frame eventhandler is

i am trying to set up a movie in as3/cs5 that works as follows:on the stage there are 3 (maybe 4) movieclips - that are divided into 6 areas.the movieclips themselves have some parallax effect on them (see attached .zip).what i am trying to do is add some script into the movie to do the follow things - first one is that when the mouse goes to the furthest edge of the browser/movie stage - the movie slides to the next/previous section of the movieclip - or rather moves the movieclips to show that section.the other thing is to add buttons to slide the mc's to the corresponding sections.so on the stage there are 4 mc's (divided into sections) if the mouse goes very far left or very far right - the mc's slide across to the next or last section/s - and if the buttons are clicked the movie will slide to a define position on the stage.does anyone know how this can be done? i've been looking for source or tuts but with no joy! One annoying problem is than when I am editing in text field, Safari will go to the previous page upon pressing backspace. Is it possible to overcome the problem by any AS3 code?
