I'm looking to build a basic menu in XML where I can add and remove buttons from the xml file and control the buttons to gotoAndPlay a frame label in Flash. With my project I will be frequently adding/removing buttons and/or changing the button name so I'd like to do this externally with an XML file.

i have a products application that loads all the info from XML.The objective is to generate a image based menu that when an element is clicked is going to load css formatted text and a set of thumbnails. That set of thumbnails (that are specific from each product) are supposed to load the full images.My problem is that i'm ok until loading the thumbnails but i can't get to opening the full images when the thumbnail is clicked.

The main problem is when i try to set a name for every thumbnail and then use it in a function outside the main button click function. I tried also to load the thumbnails and put the for loop outside the main menu click function but also i can't get the correct node in the XML to load the images that should be loaded.

I am creating a very basic menu. My project consists of a main file that then calls other swf's to fill in the rest of the content. My main timeline is this. There is an preloader which hasn't been built yet, a intro section that is two movie clips (one loads the layout, one fades in my buttons). Then when all this loads, I load the first swf. My difficulty is that I am trying to get my buttons, which are held in mc_buttons, to change the variable myLoader on the main timeline. So when you click on a button, it swaps in a different swf for the current loaded one. I have tried calling the following code attached below.

My error is:
"1119: Access of possibly undefined property myLoader through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer."
Now, if I define the myLoader variable in the mc_buttons and do an addchild() there, I get the correct content, it just is on top of the old content which isn't what I want...

Is there a way to conrtol the flash timeline with an external html file? For example, if i loaded in a textfield formatted as html, can i get the <a> tags to , (...say) _root.gotoAndPlay (33)

I am attempting to have the main timeline move from a stopped position over a movie clip to frame 1, where my start menu is.The code I'm using does move the timeline but in doing so it somehow breaks the 4 buttons I have in frame 1.

I'm having trouble trying to manipulate music using buttons. I can't seem to make music1 autoplay and loop when the movie starts. I want to stop music1 and play music2 when I press a button:

I'm trying to develope a simple elastic menu in AS3 but I have several problems because is difficult understand OOP when I come from AS2. I have a class named "menu" to create a vertical menu with n elements using a MovieClip from the library. It is linked properly as "base_primaria" and with MovieClip class as base class. Every element in the menu is in button mode and when is clicked calls a method (crearsub) to create a submenu.

I have another class named "submenu" that creates a submenu with n elements using a MovieClip from the library. It is linked properly as "base_secundaria" and with MovieClip class as base class. All the elements in the main menu must be relocated depending on the .y position and their .height. For that I'm using a method inside "menu" class named "posicionar". To animate the elements I use TweenLite. The first problem is I want to relocate all the elements through TweenLite and it is not working. Probably the "posicionar" function is wrong. The second problem is I want to click in one element from the main menu and it creates his own submenu. If there is one element with a submenu created, it must to disapear. All the elements must to relocate in real time in every click. Here the "menu" class code:

I have some code below which creates a background and buttons for a basic website. The site consists of 8 sections, with photos, text, etc.I am trying to "_Alpha" fade the entire page upon page Load. I want each page to have the "_Alpha" effect. So I need a function or a correct call to place on each page's code.For some reason, my code below works for the entire page and one button, but the rest of the buttons, still show up instantly. Notice a few lines below where I actually do my tween call, "//Alpha Ease-In". I am using "this" for my tween, but I have tried "_root", and even each button "_root.but1", etc. but it still seems to give me partial results. Anyone know how to correctly tween the entire page upon load?[code]

figure out what is going wrong with this bit of code? I have a movie clip button called play_mc and when the user clicks on it I would like the timeline to stop and the play_mc state to change to frame two. Then when the user clicks on it again, I would like the timeline to start again and the play_mc to go to frame 1.

Flex :: Menu Attached To Mx.controls.PopUpButton Never Changes?

I have prepared a very simple test case to demo my problem.just place the 2 files below into a Flash Builder 4.6 project and they will run instantly.My problem is that the menu attached to my (slightly modified) custom PopUpButton never changes - even though the underlying Array data provider is changed when you click one of the 3 buttons on the right side of it:

I have a flash document with 5 keyframes, each of these has a 'Label', which I then reference in actionscript like so:

That all works fine, and I'm happy with that. Now, at the third 'Label' I have some text on a blackboard with left and right arrows at the bottom, so i changed the blackboard to a movieclip, went into the timeline of the blackboard's movie clip and added this AS:

I'm trying to make a faux 3D rotation animation where if the user mouses to the right the object rotates right and if the user mouses to the left the object rotates left. Depending on how far they move the mouse the rotation should speed up or slow down.I spent a lot of time making an object in 3d studio max and importing the animation of rotation as JPEGs onto the timeline. I figured the most efficient way to go about this would be to make the mouse control the timeline instead of the object itself.

I am opening different swf's and I want to make sure that the buttons are still showing. I know there is something with changing or swapping the depth of the movie clip when it loads the new swf's in, but I have not found anything that is seeming to work.

I have a 400x300 area that needs to detect a rollover and animate several buttons, text fields, etc. sliding into it when the mouse rolls into the area so that they can be manipulated, and animate them sliding out when the mouse rolls out of the area to hide them from view. (example here: [URL])

What is the best way to do this? The only way I have got it to work so far is by using a listener to track mouse position, but it's not reliable since you can move the mouse quickly in some areas of the movie and the listener doesn't catch it.

Flash 8 :: Masked Pictures And Set Of Buttons On Timeline

I have a three masked pictures all are movie clips on the main timeline and the mask works ok. The problem I am having is a set of buttons on the main timeline which allow you to move between the frames the three pictures are on. They allow me to do this ok but when the movie is started the first time one of the buttons is pressed the masked pictures can be seen on screen briefly before the screen displays the material properly.

This is the script I am currently using:

I am creating a navigation bar in Flash (which will then be used in Dreamweaver). When you mouse over each topic in menu (ex. Products), i want it play a movie clip (so it shoots out a sub-menu underneath). so far so good, but the only thing is, the sub-menu won't stay open in order for me to click on buttons in it. For each button, I assigned it the Behavior to go to a url. Also, I tested the buttons within the mc and they don't seem to direct me to url. do you think maybe it's because it's nested within the movie clip?? Is there an easier way to go about this?

I'm trying to make a menu that has onRelease buttons on top of onRollover buttons (the onReleases are on a separate layer from the onRollovers). The onRelease buttons take the user to different urls, and the onRollover buttons are supposed to allow different parts of the menu to appear.

The onRelease buttons work fine, but I can't get the onRollover buttons to work consistently. Sometimes the onRollover buttons will correctly advance to a different frame, and sometimes they "stick" and do not advance. The script has no errors and I've tried changing the sizes of the onRollover buttons (in case they were too large and the cursor was hovering over more than 1 at the same time), changing the order of the code for the onRelease and onRollover commands (in case the onRollovers were being superseded by the onRelease commands), and countless variations of the layers and frames.

I'm sure that you'll want to see the script, but I don't think that pasting it all on this post would be reasonable? So I've put the .fla and the .swf on this page for reference: [URL]

I'm trying to build a class that can handle a menu or other grid of buttons being keyboard accessible (navigate with arrowkeys, select with another key, here 'b'). So far I have the keyboard part working, but you have to click one of the buttons to 'activate' it, and I am unsure of the logic needed to do the mouse events. I have added mouse events but don't see a simple way of integrating them with the keyboard system. Code is here, and both the class and a test .fla are attached.

Basically, the list of instances are passed by the frame into the constructor in an array. The selector class manages the index in the array of the currently selected button. The frame adds a key event listener, and these keys are picked up by the class to change the selected button and call the roll out and roll over methods to change the states (for this test just adjusting scale to 1.4, but in future, causing them to run a function or similar).

What I would ideally like, ideally, is for the keyboard and mouse to work in sync, as in rolling over with the mouse will update the currentButton index... If not, just some explanation as to why one of the buttons in the array must be clicked first before I can start using the keyboard would be good.
