ActionScript 3.0 :: One MovieClip Starting Another OnStage

Sep 2, 2011

In the transitional stage to AS3, I have 2 MovieClips onstage both with a short animation in them. MovieClip2 has the stop(); on its first frame. When movieClip1 gets to the end of its timeline I want it to start movieClip2 playing.
parent.movieClip2.gotoAndPlay(2); doesn't work.
Do I need evenetlisteners or something?

Scaling Onstage MovieClip With "scaleX" Breaks Timeline Animation?

Nov 3, 2009

I'm scaling onstage MovieClips via AS properties "scaleX" or "scaleY", which kills any kind of animation the clips have within their container MovieClip, be it Classic or Motion Tweens. When I don't scale the MovieClips, they animate fine. I'm able to tell the clips to "gotoAndStop" on their own internal frames, and that doesn't affect their animation within their container clip. I'm referencing the clips via AS w/ their instance names defined in the IDE. I've also tried different clips and recreated them, getting the same behavior.

Is it possible to scale a clip via AS and still have it animate within its container timeline? Does applying an AS property to an onstage instance somehow dissassociate it from other timeline properties?

When the user types the URL for the home page from an outside site, I need the entire flash file to play from frame 1, but if you have already seen it and then clicked around to subpages within the site and then want to go back to the home page , I want the movieclip to start from a specified keyframe.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Continuous Slider - Stopping / Starting MovieClip

Jan 20, 2006

I have a nested MC that functions as a continuous slider; when you mouse right of center it slides one way and when you mouse left of center it slides the opposite direction. Right at center it stops. The problem I have is that I'm using this as a menu at the bottom of a .swf and there are other places to mouse on the page, which means that this menu is constantly in motion even when it's not being used. I want it to stop when it isn't being used, only because it's an MC I can't use the onMouseOut command to stop the clip. I tried making a button that targets the clip and stops it when you roll over the button but it doesn't work.

Here's the script I'm currently using:
onClipEvent (mouseMove) {
xcenter = 467.5;
speed = 1/25;
} onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
var distance = _root._xmouse-xcenter;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Playing Animations Depending On What Mc's Are Onstage?

Jan 18, 2011

Im building an interactive courtroom exhibit which has seven thumbnails along the bottom of the screen that can be dragged up to load a larger image of each into three possible positions above. Once in position, an "Assemble" button plays one of five possible animations, depending on what elements have been dragged.

I need to figure out a way to program which animation plays when its elements are onstage and I am stumped Im thinking of using an if-else statement but I dont know how to address the loaded images once they have been put in position.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Apply A Class To An Object OnStage Without Linkage?

Jul 1, 2009

I have a series of movieClip extension classes that are currently being applied via linkage in the library. I'm trying to find a way to loop the stage at compile and apply the classes to objects with specific instance names instead.

As it is now, if someone duplicates the library instance of a clip on the stage (which happens a lot), it loses the linkage. I could memo the entire dev team and tell them to re-apply the linkage anytime they dupe a clip, but I'd really rather not ask that of everyone...

After exhaustive searching, I'm still coming up with nothing for an actual AS2 solution to this. The only workaround I'm even finding is to create a variable reference to the clip in the class constructor, but I do not want that.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Movieclip To Move Along The X-axis To A Certain Point And Then Back To The Starting Point Again?

It's been a long time since I've done any work with actionscript, and alas I've forgotten nearly everything. I've tried to look for a tutorial that would explain basic animation with actionscript, but the one that I found on Kirupa was no longer there.

Basically I'd like to do this:On the stage I have a movieclip and I'd like the movieclip to move along the x-axis to a certain point and then back to the starting point again. The moving speed of the movieclip should also be adjustable.

Starting And Stopping Video And MP3

Aug 5, 2009

I can't seem to get around my video and audio files starting when I arrive at the page. I'm even using some example code with start and stop buttons. This is in CS4 Flash. I expect it's because the ActionScript is in the wrong place because when I run the movie it flashes through all of the pages on the site without stopping at the home page. Is there some generic code that will allow me to simply swap out the name of the video or audio file I want to start. If there is, do I need to locate it on its own layer at the top of the timeline?

Starting Off With Flash Animations?

Sep 11, 2009

I just started to make flash animations using Adobe Flash CS4, but there's something I just don't understand. To create an animated object, I know I have to create a new movie clip symbol, animate it, and then put it in the main scene. But when I drag the symbol from the library to the main scene, only the first frame of the animation is copied! How can I copy the entire animation of a movie clip symbol to the main scene?

Determine When FMS Is Starting To Get Overloaded?

Aug 5, 2011

We have a set of FMS's deployed on Amazon's EC2.  One of the things we want to be able to do is automatically detect when we should start up another FMS instance.  To do that, I've been looking for metrics I could measure on the local FMS box to help me identify "transition" points, e.g., when we should add capacity or remove excess capacity.

I ran some load testing to find out where the capacity limits of a particular box, but ran into a couple of problems[code]...

ActionScript 2.0 :: What Encapsulation Is Best Used Starting Out

Dec 15, 2009

Figuring out Public, Private, Internal, Protected for every variable in even a basic banner is a lot for me to figure out. Defining permissions of movieclips is totally new to me. Personally, I could truly care-a-less as I don't build apps. I work in smaller media. But I need to do things right for stuff to work fast when clients want changes every 5 minutes.What's good to use starting out so I don't trip all over myself with errors?Is there a general rule of thumb for a least path of resistance? I'm thinking I should just make everything public (or what I used to know as global) unless something "bad" happens.

You don't have to understand anything the problem is into the intro. It is quite simple but I don't really know how to fix it. The problem is the movie in the first page start before it totally loaded so depending of your connection and your cpu in doesn't start at the begin.

I want to fix that.

Here's my structure.

I have a swf which load the "template" which load another swf which load the movie

index.swf (preloader)--->base.swf--->preloader2.swf---->movie.swf

I think that the only thing you need is the code of the preloader

Code:
