ActionScript 3.0 :: Select A Random Subset Of Array
Apr 28, 2011
[code]What I'd like to do next is create a subset of 10 randomly chosen (shuffled and unique) questions from the bigger group (say of 21 questions). What is the best way to do this? I'm guessing I'll be using an Array.
I have a browser-deployed Flash app (not an AIR app with access to SQLConnection) and it fetches JSON results from a remote server via HTTPService. I need to extract subsets from the returned resultset, an array of objects, efficiently. Mutltiple calls through the cloud to the back-end won't do. It all has to happen client-side.Is there any collection class in Flex ActionScript that can sort an array of objects by one of the properties the objects all have in common, like the Array sortOn method, and then also provides a binary search method can extract a subset of objects from the sorted version of the array without visiting every item in the array and comparing?if I have an array of objects and each object had a zip property and a name property, I'd like to be able to extract all objects with zip = 10015 from the a copy of the original array where the copy has been sorted on zip.
Basically, i'd like to set up a timeline with say 10 movies. When the page loads, i'd like the flash to randomly select from some predetermined keyframes (obviously where each movie starts) and when that movie ends, jump to another section of the timeline. This way, the loading of the movies is somewhat seamless and it looks like i've made 10 different flash movies.Even if it's not possible to all load from the same timeline, i'd like to have it play the first movie, then when it reaches an ending frame, it loads another random movie from a directory on the server, and then keeps going and going until it can't stand it anymore.
I need to be able to select a random number between 1 and 200... however, I don't want the number to be selected more than once...I found this code:
HTML Code: var minNum:Number = 1; var maxNum:Number = 200;[code]....
However, this returns a whole array rather a single number.How do I get at the first number in this array? I am making a quiz game and want to return a random number (number) which displays a question using an 'if' statement: if number == 1{ etc. I don't want the same question to be displayed for the remainder of the game.
I am trying to make a banner like item for a website I am working on, I have 1 external text file 4 external swf's and 1 external .jpg.that I am trying to get to do this:on page load display img1.jpg for 60 seconds and then randomly select a number and then display the file that is associated with that number, for 60 seconds, and do it again, and again until all of the text and swf files have been displayed and then start over from the beginning,Now I can get it to select a random number and then pull up a file that is associated with that number with this code.I have shortened the time to see it work but still no avail.Example random code:
I am trying to get symbols to randomly get tinted from 4 select colors.The symbols come in randomly but would like them to come tinted randomly as well. How would you get them to tint at a random color in AS2?
I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.
While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements.So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.
I've been putting data into an array via XML, and then selecting at random an image string to load in a pic at random. But whilst doing this, I wanted to remove the String from the Array that I have just used, so I don't get repetition of the same image in the output. I initially thought that pop would remove the string I had just used - But of course it Removes the last value in the Array instead, which doesn't really help.
Ok - so how about randomizing the data once inside the Array, after it has been pulled in from XML!? That way I can load in the 'last' image, and then pop it out! Keeping a randomized selection of images each time 'it' is loaded
if I want to play/test only 30 frames of 100, is it possible to hear the audio that just pertains to those 30 frames? Or is this only possible, IF the audio segment STARTS WITHIN those 30 frames?
I embedded some characters using embed tag in flash CS3(font.swf). 2 separate swf(a.swf,b.swf) loads the font.swf on runtime. These 2 swf are being called from a container(parent) swf. It looks find locally and not time consuming to load. But when I view it from a server, computer lags after a while....(all file sizes are relatively small.around 160kb). What needs to be done in order to prevent computer from lagging? Is it better to load font.swf not in separate swf but directly in container(parent).swf?
I have a situation where I have a List showing a queue of Upload Objects:
[Code]...
I would like to create three different views of the List: One showing All uploads in the queue Another showing only the Upload items with Upload.type == "Update" and another showing only the items with Upload.type == "Create". Another example of this would be on an email inbox, where we could filter "All, unread, or read". I realise I could just create three different lists, one for each view of the list (maybe I'm just being picky) but I was wondering: Is there is any easy way to conditionally select the items to display from a DataProvider based on a parameter (for example type =="Upload") so I don't have to juggle three separate ArrayCollections about?
I want to subset an array. I have the following array
[Code]...
Now based on user requirement I want to select a range of sell data for some month.For example sometime it may be sells data from Apr to Dec,sometime may be Jul-Oct.How can I do that without hampering the original array
I'm trying to get a random date in a date range and this is what i have so far but it doesnt seem to be working ? Where I'm I Going wrong ?Gets the date difference
private function differenceBetweenDates(date1:Date, date2:Date):Number{ var MS_PER_DAY:uint = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24;[code]..........
I have a comboBox and values like basic and advanced. And viewstack container conatains 2 grids.When i select the base option in Combobox, the first grid has to be selected. select the advanced value in comboBox, the second grid has to be selected.
Flex 4 Combobox is extended with a Text Input that helps in getting to the item that is searched for.I have created a Check Box as an itemrenderer for this Flex 4 Combobox. I would like to Add a Select All and Select None options in the drop down of the Combobox. I know that i could accomplish by editing the dropdownfactory in case of a Flex 3 Combobox. But in Flex 4 the dropdownfactory doesnt exist.
I would like to use an array to play 5 sound files randomly.Here's the code I've got so far! Can anyone tell me what code I'm missing?
var my_sounds:Array = [Sound1, Sound2, Sound3, Sound4, Sound5]; var s1:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("GentleSeaOnFlatBeach.wav"));var s2:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("SPLASH.wav"));var s3:Sound = new Sound(new
I've got the following script that loops an array of movieclips at random positions in and out of the stage using Tweener. My problem is that the loop uses all the movieclips (WELCOME00, WELCOME01, etc.) at once. What I'd like is for the loop to only use one of the movieclips, chosen at random, for the loop instead of all of the movieclips listed in the array at one time.
Code: import caurina.transitions.*; var mcArray:Array = [WELCOME00, WELCOME01, WELCOME02, WELCOME03]; var init:Boolean = true;
I have an assignment where I need to create an array with 9 numbers between 1 and 34, also none of the numbers need to appear twice.This is what I have so far, so as you can see I'm stuck on the part where I have to check if the number already exists in the array.[code]
I have 12 empty Movie clips on stage. I want to get the content (jpg's or swf's) for these containers from an array. This is all fine, but I would like the contents to be loaded randomly into one of the 12 containers. The containers load the jpg's, which are preview thumbnails that need to link to the actual larger image plus some text. Loading eveything is OK, but I haven't figured out how to load the content into a random MC... I attached the fla and images.
I'm creating a series of banners for a website. There are 3 so far with more to be made. I have made each banner as a separate swf file.The thing I would like it to do it create a randomly ordered array of the banner swf names and then load the banners in that order. Once the banners have been played or loaded through, I would l simply like it repeat that same order again.I have managed to create an array and play through that array in an ordered loop, but how do I create a random array that will do the same thing?[code]
I have problem with getting a random word from an array and the putting that word to a text field.
I setup the array for my words like this:
Code: // a string of words this.somewords = "wind breeze storm stormy tornado text space"; // convert the string of words into an array of words this.wordList = new Array(); this.wordList = this.somewords.split(" ");
And I want to put randomly these words to a movieclip that I'm attaching to the stage about 50 times.
