ActionScript 3.0 :: Test Processor Implications Of Ever-increasing Movieclip Width?
Sep 18, 2011
Let's say that I have a line being dynamically generated by an enter frame function (see script below). As long as the movie is playing, the line's width is increasing.
1) At what point (if ever) does its always-incresing width have a negative effect on the processor?
2) Is there any way to test the processor in such a situation to make sure that things aren't undermining performance?[code]...
I want to adjust the width of DropDownList control in flex 4. I could do it by editing the skinclass and setting the PopupAnchor's Property "popUpWidthMatchesAnchorWidth" to false, but in my application I have to do it using actionscript.
I have a basic framework for my code, but I am not sure how to just get the icons I have to grow and shrink. Right now I can only get it to snap to +10 width and height.
var grow:Number = 10; var shrink:Number = 10; resiSplash_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, resiClick) resiSplash_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVE R, resiGrow) resiSplash_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT , resiShrink) function resiClick(event:MouseEvent):void { [Code] .....
We are working on an android application that works on web also. On android the scrollpane components are showing very small and difficult to catch with finger. We tried to increase the width of scrollpane component but this don't work.
on Roll_over I am increasing uiLoader width and Height for Zoomed versionso when I roll Over first loader , it appears behind 2nd loader ,similarly when I rollover 2nd loader , it appears behind 3rd loader
I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)
i have a quick question for you. Say i have a parent movieclip called "bob". Within "bob," i have another movieclip named "steve." within "steve," i have a bunch of other movieclips. Say i call removeChild(steve), from within bob. I know that will remove steve, but does that mean all the little movieclips within steve will be removed as well?
I need make a movieclip bigger (by not scaling it). The only fix right now I can think of is making a small transparent shape and setting it to a y-coordinate.Is there a better way of doing this?
I'm trying to increase the speed of a single movieclip. The frame rate of my movie is 12, and I don't want to increase the frame rate of the entire movie just to speed up one movieclip.
I've seen tutorials all over the web, and all the actionscript controlled speeds of movieclip tutorials are for more interactive animations, such as mouse movements and rollovers.
I'm looking for something that simply plays a movieclip faster on the timeline and I'm sure there is a simple code for this.
how to get a movieclip named "topnav" to resize it's width to match that of the stage. I am trying to resize the width of a top nav bar across a resizable RIA. I have started with the following code but with only partial success:
Code: stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeListener); function resizeListener (e:Event):void { var reg2 = stage.stageWidth / 100;
i am using a movieclip who has two nested movieclips, the problem i am dealing is that when i try to get the width or height of the parent movieclip it always showing the values of the small nested movieclip, when i draw the movieclip it draw perfect but when i read this values shows that error, what can i do?
I have a script as follows attached to an MC that is pretty processor intensive (well, that is when the MC is duplicated 30 times). I'm looking for some input from people on how to possibly optimize this to cut back on how badly it lags the rest of the movie. My computer is quite powerful but it still shows performance issues with this script:
[AS] onClipEvent(load) { //size of purpleCloud's active area
I am trying to get 50 rectangular MC's to scale larger and fade to another color on rollover and rollouts. However, with the code I am using my processor can't handle it after about 8-10 MC's have been rollovered. Can anyone offer a better way to do this? Here is my code:
i have heard that there are ways to detect how fast the processor is or something like that, and then set certain settings or something within flash, that will basically optimize the performance of the movie so that it works better with the computer it is being viewed on...i really dont know how to describe what im trying to find exactly, i was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this, or knew where to find more information about this task.basically, i am starting to design stuff that is really intense, and i need to figure out how i can optimize it better.
Not having a movie clip on the stage until needed (attachMovie when it's time, and then kill it as soon as it's temporarily of no use).visible = false^ Is there a difference in processor demand? When setting visible to false, it seems to me that a few extra variables would need to be stored for the movie clip..._x, _y, _width, _height, _alpha, etc., etc., etc...but I wasn't sure how Flash goes about handling these things or which was better practice?
Has anyone found a script in AS2 for a nice snow effect that it doesn't make the computer go crazy with so much processor calculations?I tried almost every script around and makes my website completely crash most systems.my flash file is about 600k with quite a few menus and 930 x 630...so its a bigger res than most

I'm trying to make the ball fall and when it travels along the curved path it will rise and sink depending on where it is on the track... The ball is really jumpy...
i have a swf with several processor intensive subroutines within a main init() routine at start up (about a 5 secs startup wait). it needs a preloader not due to asset loads but to the processor intensive routines.i'm trying to create a preloader that will display progress as the routines complete but when i try to write text to text field as each subroutine completes either the textField.text is not updated or the text field display is not updated after each subroutine finishes.this prevents me from tracking the progress of the start up.
is there a way to force an update to the display list in the middle of a processor intensive routine? i believe flash is supposed to update after each frame but i'm not seeing this.also, the text field i'm displaying *before* this processor intensive routine *does* display when running locally but *does not* display before the routine when running online.not sure why.
I am creating an interactive word prosessor. I would like to be able to format my text (font, size, style, aligning, etc) but I am unsure of the syntax envolved. my code is:
How do you set up a hit test for a dynamic movieclip that hasn't yet been created?I have a movieclip on the stage, and I want it to change colour when a yet to be created dynamic clip touches it.
i have a recorded dvr stream, using the dvrcast sample application. of course, i couldn't play it or use it in video post processing tools so i tried the f4v post processor fms tool.unfortunately, both f4v post processor and flvcheck tools throw error and exit immediately
i've got a pretty small (in my opinion) usage of motion tween on the following site: [URL]
the circles are moving around and rotating.. not that big of a deal compared to many much more flash intensive websites that i've seen.
on a few computers i've viewed the website on, this page slows down the rest of the computer, the circles move real choppy, etc so it's very taxing on the computer/processor. making this a less intense flash tween? is it something that i'm overlooking or is what my flash file is doing truly that difficult for a computer/browser to process?
I performed a benchmark test memory consumption by three DisplayObjects - MovieClip, Sprite, and Shape.
Below are results and method used. I just wanted to create instances. Test with adding instnaces to display list showed a slight difference in terms of memory consumption.
Observations: Sprite uses from 16 to 22% with average 18% less memory than MoviClip.
Shape uses from 42 to 55% with average of 46% less memory than MovieClip.
Shape uses from 32 to 42% with average of 35% less memory than Sprite.
I'm working with arrays again and i have a question for the smart I have an array with 10 references to a movie clip in my library and a timer that add one of these movie clips to the stage every second (Without removing them from the array). When the movie clips are added to the stage they will be touching another movie clip that has an instancename. I want to perform a hit test between the movie clip on the stage and the added movie clips from my array that will lead to some actions.
My question is: Is it possible to hit test the movieclips in the array with the movieclip on the stage with a few simple lines of code? I'd hate to have to give each of them an instance name. I know this is what classes are for but i really hoped i could avoide using them for this project ( stupid classes!) I'm looking for something like this in code: if any movieclip in my array hit test a specific movieclip on stage
I'm trying to test a custom Flex 4 skinnable component, using the FlexUnit UIImpersonator class. If I run my tests from a FlashBuilder Spark only project everything works fine. If I try to test from a project with the mx component set on the classpath I get a "getElementIndex not available in non Flex 4 projects" error. Can I unit test spark components in FlexUnits visual test environment while still having the mx component set on the classpath?
UIImpersonator delegates it's method calls to a "testEnvironment".The implementation used for this "testEnvironment" is decided by the VisualTest EnvironmentBuilder class and the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class. If the FlexEnvironmentBuilder class can find the "mx.core.Container" on the classpath it returns a MX environment, else a Spark environment. Only the spark environment has valid implementations for Flex 4 relevant method calls on the UIImpersonator - like the addElement method.
